Copake Camping Resort Introduce

For New Yorkers seeking a breath of fresh air without a grueling drive into the deep wilderness, Copake Camping Resort offers a perfect middle ground. Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Berkshire Mountains in Columbia County, this resort serves as a home away from home for RV enthusiasts and families alike. Whether you are looking for a weekend escape from the city or a seasonal home in the Hudson Valley, the resort provides a community-focused atmosphere where nature meets modern convenience. The park is well-regarded for its sprawling grounds, mature trees, and a social calendar that keeps guests engaged from late spring through the vibrant autumn foliage season.

The transition from a traditional KOA to the independently operated Copake Camping Resort has allowed the facility to lean into its identity as a local staple. While the resort has shifted its focus heavily toward the RV lifestyle and deluxe cabin rentals, it remains a central hub for those exploring the "East End" of New York’s upstate region. The resort is designed to accommodate everything from compact travel trailers to massive "Big Rig" motorhomes, ensuring that every type of modern camper finds a suitable and spacious place to park. With a friendly staff and a commitment to maintaining clean, accessible facilities, it has earned its reputation as one of the most reliable camping destinations in the region.

Location and accessibility are two of the strongest selling points for this resort. Situated on County Route 7A in Copake, the park is easily reached via the Taconic State Parkway, one of New York's most scenic routes. This makes it an ideal destination for residents of Manhattan, Westchester, and the Hudson Valley who want a straightforward commute to their campsite. Once you arrive, you’ll find that the resort is a gateway to some of the area's best local attractions. It is located less than an hour from several major towns and is particularly famous for its proximity to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, a paved path perfect for cycling and walking that winds through the beautiful countryside. Additionally, the nearby Hillsdale Farmers Market offers a taste of local Columbia County produce and crafts every weekend during the summer months.

Services at Copake Camping Resort are tailored to provide a hassle-free experience so that guests can focus on relaxation. The park is a full-hookup facility, meaning RVers have access to consistent water, sewer, and electric services. For those who do not own an RV, the resort has expanded its lodging options to include deluxe cabins and "park model" rentals that offer the comforts of a small house, including climate control and kitchenettes. On-site services are comprehensive, featuring a well-stocked general store for essentials, a snack bar for quick meals, and professional-grade laundry facilities to make long-term stays more comfortable. The resort also prioritizes inclusivity, offering wheelchair-accessible restrooms and parking to ensure all guests can enjoy the facilities.

  • Full RV Hookups: Most sites include 30-amp or 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections.
  • Deluxe Cabin Rentals: Fully furnished options for those who prefer "glamping" over traditional camping.
  • On-Site General Store: Stocks everything from firewood and ice to RV supplies and grocery staples.
  • Snack Bar and Dining: Offers seasonal treats and meals, reducing the need to cook every night.
  • Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the park, though speeds are best suited for basic browsing and emails.
  • Payment Convenience: Accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, and modern NFC mobile payments.

The features and highlights of Copake Camping Resort are what truly bring its community to life. One of the most distinctive aspects of the resort is its "Theme Weekends." Throughout the season, the park hosts events ranging from "Monster Weekend" with trick-or-treating and haunted hayrides to carnival-themed days and live band performances. These events turn a standard camping trip into a festive experience, especially for children. The recreational facilities are vast, including a heated swimming pool that is the center of activity during the summer, a professionally designed mini-golf course, and a modern playground. For those who enjoy a bit of competition, the park features pickleball, tennis, and volleyball courts, as well as regular cornhole tournaments.

  • Theme Weekends and Activities: A packed schedule of events including live music, crafts, and holiday celebrations.
  • Heated Swimming Pool: A large, well-maintained pool area with plenty of space for sunbathing and family fun.
  • Recreational Courts: Facilities for pickleball, tennis, volleyball, and basketball.
  • Family Entertainment: An 18-hole mini-golf course and a dedicated arcade game room.
  • Pet-Friendly Policy: Dogs are welcome, and the park features dedicated space for pets to exercise.
  • Trail Access: Located near the entrance to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail for miles of scenic biking and hiking.

Planning your trip to Copake is straightforward, and it is recommended to book well in advance for holiday or theme weekends, as these periods often sell out months ahead of time. You can contact the park office via phone to discuss specific site preferences, such as choosing a grassy site for a quieter evening or a pull-thru site for easier parking of larger rigs.

What is worth choosing about Copake Camping Resort? It is the sheer variety of experiences packed into one location. While some campers prefer the ruggedness of a state park, the resort model offered here appeals to those who want amenities and social interaction. Choosing Copake means you have the flexibility to spend your morning hiking a rail trail and your afternoon lounging by a heated pool. It is worth choosing for families who want their children to have safe, organized activities in a secure environment. Furthermore, its location allows you to experience the authentic Hudson Valley lifestyle—visiting nearby distilleries, farmers markets, and historic sites—all while having a reliable and comfortable base camp to return to at night. If you value a blend of outdoor adventure and resort-style convenience, Copake remains a top-tier choice in the New York region.

I’ve been camping at this campground a couple of times each camping season for several years and have always appreciated the reliable hookups, friendly staff and amenities. The grass sites are my favorite—much nicer than the other transient spots, which feel more like a parking lot. Those are great when camping with friends, but not when you prefer a quiet evening. Wifi was very slow and it took some time to access social media. That said, I was really disappointed at the steep $100 a night for the weekend after Columbus Day, and I wasn’t able to use the discount advertised on their Facebook page because it was considered a “special” weekend (guess I didn't read the fine print). Yes, it was Monster Weekend which included a trunk-or-treat and a band, but that hardly justified not being able to use the discount. I can understand that rate in the summer with pool open, air conditioners on and more staff to handle more guests.I’ve enjoyed Copake Camping Resort for a long time due to its location to the Rail Trail and the Hillsdale Farmers market on the weekend as well as it is under an hour from my home. Still, at these prices, I’ll likely be booking other campgrounds in the area in the future.

My son and I came here for years when this was a KOA and then for a brief time as Copake Camping Resort. We always camped in one of the four awesome tent sites. Great location and setup, it was perfect. Greed knows no bounds and they took away the only four tent sites for yet even more rv sites. We were told, at least a few years ago, that actually taking away the sites was a good thing since then we could tent camp anywhere. Total nonsense that was not a netter option at all. We never went back and now I see there is no tent camping at all. We will never camp there again and want to sarcastically thank the current, far less quality than the KOA ownership for ruining a place for us that we held dear. And I see the reviews are now down to 4.2 which is not good for a campground and not surprised at all.

Attention campers! This was a really nice little camping or glamping spot, very family friendly, dog friendly, fun activities or very nice for relaxing. Cute little store for small or last minute staples (water, milk, eggs, bacon, candies, ice, firewood, etc.). The beds were a bit hard for my liking, but the hubby didn't mind that, so just be aware! Don't forget your own linens and pillows!

My first camping 🏕 experience and I have had the best experience with my family here at Copake Camping Resort. I will recommend it to anyone and everyone! Thank you for such a wonderful time. The included activities were great and our neighbors were wonderful! I can't wait to come back! 8hr drive from Ohio was totally worth every mile! 🥰🥰🥰
