Cortland Country Music Park-Campground Introduce

Cortland Country Music Park-Campground is not your average outdoor destination; it is a legendary piece of New York’s cultural heritage. Located in the picturesque hills of Cortland, New York, this park was founded with a dream: to celebrate and preserve the history of country and western music in the Empire State. Founded by local musician Merlin Reynolds, the park has grown into a vibrant community hub where camping and live entertainment go hand-in-hand. For local New Yorkers looking for a getaway that offers more than just a fire pit and a tent pad, this park provides a rich, immersive experience rooted in community and local pride.

The park is home to the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, making it a "must-visit" destination for music lovers. While the campground offers a peaceful escape for families and travelers, the heart of the property beats within the historic Opry Barn and the Hall of Fame. Whether you are a local resident of Central New York or a traveler navigating the scenic Route 13 corridor, you will find a atmosphere that is uniquely welcoming. The facility is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, which lends it a genuine, grassroots feel that larger corporate campgrounds simply cannot replicate.

Location and accessibility are major draws for this unique park. Situated at 1824 NY-13 in Cortland, the campground is remarkably easy to reach, located just off Exit 11 of I-81. This makes it a perfect midpoint for those traveling between Syracuse, Ithaca, and Binghamton. From the perspective of a local user, the park serves as a gateway to the Finger Lakes region, with the historic downtown of Cortland and the village of Homer just minutes away. The park is designed to be inclusive, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance, wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and accessible restrooms and showers at three different locations across the grounds.

Navigating the campground is straightforward, with a mix of open, grassy sections and shaded spots. The terrain is largely flat, which is ideal for both walking and maneuvering larger RVs. For those looking to explore the surrounding area, the park is a short drive from the CNY Living History Center and the Shipwreck Golf Amusement Center, providing plenty of off-site entertainment for families. With its strategic position on Route 13, visitors have the convenience of nearby grocery stores and restaurants while still feeling tucked away in a quiet, music-filled sanctuary.

  • Over 100 spacious campsites, with a majority offering water and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp available).
  • Dedicated tent sites for those who prefer traditional, rustic camping.
  • On-site RV services including a sanitary dump station and a "honey wagon" service available twice weekly.
  • Restroom and shower facilities distributed across three different locations for guest convenience.
  • The legendary Opry Barn, a premier live music venue hosting weekend bands and dancing.
  • Access to the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, featuring memorabilia from legends like Loretta Lynn and Kenny Rogers.
  • Communal activities including organized pancake breakfasts, potluck dinners, and fishing derbies.
  • Flexible payment options including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.

The features and highlights of Cortland Country Music Park-Campground are what truly set it apart. The Opry Barn is the centerpiece of the community, where the long-standing tradition of the Sunday Afternoon Barn Dance brings generations together on the dance floor. Music is the thread that binds the park together, but the natural amenities are equally impressive. A picturesque pond on the property offers catch-and-release fishing, providing a relaxing afternoon for anglers of all ages. For those traveling with children, the park features a playground and swings, ensuring that younger campers have plenty to do between sets of music.

  • Live radio broadcasts of the "Ole Cortland Opry Show," recorded on-site with a live audience.
  • Regular line dancing lessons for both adults and children, fostering a fun, active environment.
  • A dog-friendly policy that allows you to bring your furry friends along for the adventure (rabies proof required).
  • Scenic picnic areas and fire rings perfect for evening s'mores and family gatherings.
  • Indoor and outdoor stages, allowing for large-scale concerts and intimate acoustic sets.
  • Memorabilia-filled museum galleries showcasing the evolution of New York's country music scene.
  • A strong sense of community with seasonal campers who are often described as helpful and welcoming.
  • Proximity to Greek Peak Mountain Resort for those looking to combine camping with hiking or skiing.

If you are planning a visit, it is always a good idea to check the current events calendar, as the park is a hub for festivals and benefit jamborees throughout the season. Reservations can be made by calling the park office directly, and the staff is known for their friendly, personal service during the check-in process.

What is worth choosing about Cortland Country Music Park-Campground is the rare opportunity to combine affordable camping with high-quality cultural entertainment. In a region with many standard RV parks, this destination stands out as a "gem" for those who appreciate history and music. It is especially worth choosing if you are a fan of traditional country music or if you are looking for a community where you can truly "unplug" from technology and "plug in" to a shared human experience. The Sunday dances and the museum tours offer a level of engagement that you simply won't find at a typical campground.

Furthermore, the park’s commitment to self-improvement under its evolving management makes it an exciting time to visit. With ongoing renovations to the Hall of Fame and the dedicated volunteer spirit that keeps the Opry Barn humming, choosing this park means supporting a nonprofit mission to keep music alive. Whether you are coming for the line dancing, the fishing, or the chance to see a sequined dress worn by Tammy Wynette, you will leave with a greater appreciation for the local spirit of Cortland. It is more than just a place to park your RV; it is a place where memories are made to the sound of a fiddle.

READ FULL REVIEW We heard mixed reviews about the campground but we wanted to try it.. so I booked in October 2023.. I paid in full I didn’t get a receipt emailed so I bugged them and they said the computers were down blah blah finally I got a email confirmation.. so I called for confirmation of incoming on the Monday b4 we arrived.. the lady that answered said you have a confirmation I was like oh no.. I said yes and read it to her she said no problem I guess it changed hands on who owned it.. I was told it was the new section and all new 50 amps.. so we pulled in looking for our site first impression was ohhhhhh nooo we won’t fit and the sites are a hot mess.. three pads close together all over grown with weeds.. with all kinds of stairs a mini fridge a small table not very appealing and a shed that was opened up and was full of bees (a young boy got stung) so we got out of the truck and a few men came out not sure where from lol but they appeared.. the one guy Dan said I will call and see where they want u to go.. as he’s on the phone a man named Darren came and helped us into a new spot close to where we originally booked..and I said it looks like the Klampets are here nothing liked I was told on the phone.. he apologized and said they are under new management it’s corporate owned and they are working out the bugs in it..the lil man that got stuns was hand pulling weeds w me b4 he got stung.. and the men moved the extra stairs from our pad and helped my husband get settled in the spot.. i continued to pick up the pad and Dan came back with a weed eater and did a great job.. so with that being said the rest wasn’t at all bad we met a lot of nice people. I had my husband carefully close the door of the eye sore bee infested shed..the new manager and wife came over and introduced themselves and apologized.. then other campers introduced themselves within the few hours of us being there..walking around the campground wasn’t rough terrain and a mower.. weeding.. some trimming of hedges and trees would do wonders for the place.. some of the seasonals should take care of their spaces better especially if on water one camper had a open bag of garbage on the ground the whole time.. we visited the museum a lot of history in there kinda a shame that ppl don’t come to visit.. a lot of potential.. the opry house I loved I could see acts playing on the stage and just a great place.. they had a band Saturday nite but there wasn’t much of advertising for it.. a sign in front of the park and if anyone stumbled across the facebook page.. after the first few hours of being there I can say we enjoyed ourselves.. can’t express enough gratitude how the men in the beginning helped us out.. and the new manager and wife were nice as well..trying their best as a team to make it great again a destination for all kinds of music and events.. it’s gonna be a rough season most likely but I hope next year it will be the gem I know it can be.. I had seen in my own mind how great it could be with blood sweat and tears..and laughing along the way.. the last pic I post on here are of the pads outside our door that is fist step of cleaning the place up..
