County Bridge Campground Introduce
For those of us in Pennsylvania who seek the solace of the deep woods and the gentle sound of a flowing river, County Bridge Campground stands as a quintessential destination. Located in the eastern reaches of the Tioga State Forest near Canton, this campground offers an authentic back-to-nature experience that is increasingly rare. It is the kind of place where the morning mist clings to the Tioga River and the only alarm clock you will hear is the local birdlife. As a local favorite in the PA Wilds region, it serves as a perfect base camp for exploring the rugged beauty of North Central Pennsylvania.
County Bridge Campground is designed for those who appreciate simplicity and the raw beauty of the forest. The atmosphere is quiet and serene, making it a stark contrast to more commercialized RV resorts. Here, the focus is on the environment—the towering hemlocks, the rocky riverbed, and the network of trails that wind through the mountainside. Whether you are a seasoned backpacker or a family looking to introduce your children to the wonders of the outdoors, this site provides a welcoming and manageable entry point into the wilder parts of our state.
Accessibility is straightforward, though the journey itself is part of the charm. Situated on Gleason Road in Canton, the campground is nestled in an isolated valley that feels a world away from the busy corridors of the Commonwealth. Recent updates to the management of Tioga State Forest mean that while the setting remains primitive, the booking process has been modernized. As of 2024, reservations are now required through the official Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests website, moving away from the old honor-envelope system. This ensures your spot is waiting for you after your drive through the winding valley roads.
- Conveniently located in Ward Township, just a fifteen-minute drive from the shops and restaurants in the town of Canton.
- Direct roadside access on Gleason Road makes it reachable for small RVs, trailers, and passenger vehicles.
- On-site parking is provided at each campsite, ensuring your gear and vehicle are always within reach.
- The site serves as a central hub for those looking to visit nearby landmarks like Fall Brook Falls or the McIntyre Wild Area.
The services at County Bridge Campground are intentionally basic to preserve the primitive character of the state forest. You won't find Wi-Fi or electric hookups here; instead, the "service" provided is the maintenance of a clean, safe, and quiet environment where the beauty of the Tioga River takes center stage. The campground provides essential infrastructure to make your stay comfortable while encouraging you to unplug and engage with your surroundings.
- Dedicated camping sites equipped with sturdy fire rings and picnic tables for outdoor dining.

The true highlights of County Bridge Campground are found in its natural features. The campground sits along a section of the Tioga River that is roughly the size of a large stream, providing a soothing "babbling brook" soundtrack to your stay. For families, the area is a treasure trove of discovery. In the spring, the forest floor is often covered in wild leeks, and the nearby waterfalls offer a spectacular display of Pennsylvania’s hydrological beauty. The proximity to high-quality hiking trails means you can transition from breakfast at your picnic table to a scenic overlook in a matter of minutes.
- Hiking trails that lead to local wonders such as Fall Brook Falls and Sand Run Falls.
- A family-oriented layout that is widely recognized as being good for kids and beginners.
- Excellent fishing opportunities in the Tioga River, known for its cool and clean waters.
- Close proximity to Lambs Lookout and the Mid State Trail for more ambitious trekkers.
- An affordable camping fee that makes long-term stays or frequent weekend trips accessible for local residents.
Planning your visit is easy with the following contact and location information. The campground is located at Gleason Rd, Canton, PA 17724, USA. For specific facility information or to inquire about seasonal conditions, visitors can contact the Tioga State Forest district office. Remember that a camping fee is required for all stays, and reservations should be made in advance to secure one of the approximately 14 available sites. Since there are no trash disposal facilities on-site, campers are reminded to follow "Carry In, Carry Out" principles to keep our Pennsylvania forests pristine.
What makes County Bridge Campground worth choosing is its unique blend of isolation and accessibility. It offers a "deep woods" feeling without requiring a multi-mile hike to reach your tent. For local Pennsylvanians, it represents a cost-effective way to enjoy the best of the PA Wilds. While recent reviews suggest being mindful of wet weather—as some areas can become muddy after heavy rain or snowmelt—the trade-off is a lush, vibrant landscape that feels truly alive. Choosing this campground means choosing a night under a canopy of stars, the smell of a wood fire, and the peaceful flow of the river—the very things that make living in Pennsylvania so special.

Overall great time sites were clean. A couple frustrations being websites on availability not matching up and higher processing and cancelation fees than expected
I love it there but they need to put down more stones. They cut down some trees by bathroom this winter and it's a real mud hole now. Must have drove some equipment thru road. Sites and road are real muddy now.
Very good Campsite but it is run by The D.C.N.R. who collects a $ 10.00 a night fee a dump off for sewage, and water for washing dish's only no potable water , I have personally stayed there and although primative they have Rest Arms. W/M. But I have personally seen lots of Wildlife including Amer. Bald Eagles,Deer and occasionally a Black Bear and the Tioga River runs right through it, I f you enjoy fishing the place is right for a trout dinner at times,The only thing that annoyed me very little the rangers stop by to collect your money or a box on your honor but what was not discussed was senior citizens only have to pay $4.00 a day also for Handicapped Pers. Same rate $4.00 dol. I didn't know this untill I had p/u a S.S.Ben.Book in Towanda , you also are limited to the time your able to Camp but U can leave and come back after staying away 2 business days, though primitive I enjoyed it immensely Hunting is not allowed in Campsite area but many state game lands loaded wcreature and also big game, I do.
I go here often. It's a nice place to have a picnic or a party! They have camping sites that are pretty close together. There are some trails to walk. Overall it's a nice place to be on a beautiful summer day
I only stopped there to get some water, never camped or used the picnic area but it does look nice
