Field & Forest Recreation Area Introduce
For those living in the Granite State, the call of the outdoors is a constant companion. New Hampshire is home to some of the most diverse recreational landscapes in New England, and nestled within the scenic Monadnock region is the Field & Forest Recreation Area. This unique destination in Harrisville offers more than just a place to pitch a tent; it provides a specialized environment where nature lovers and off-road enthusiasts can find common ground. Known primarily for its high-quality trails and well-maintained facilities, this campground has earned a reputation as a must-visit spot for local families and serious off-roaders alike.
The Field & Forest Recreation Area is a private facility that prioritizes the quality of the visitor experience over sheer volume. Unlike massive state-run parks, this area focuses on providing a tidy, community-oriented atmosphere. It is particularly famous in the Northeast for its challenging terrain that caters to specialized off-road buggies and serious rigs, though it remains a welcoming space for photographers and nature enthusiasts who simply want to witness the incredible "wheeling" action. It is important for local visitors to note that the campground often operates on an event-based schedule, making it a destination that rewards those who plan ahead and check for specific opening dates.
Located at 890 NH-137, Harrisville, NH 03450, USA, Field & Forest is perfectly positioned for easy access from various parts of New Hampshire. Situated along Route 137, it is a straightforward drive for residents of Keene, Peterborough, or even those coming from the Manchester area. The surrounding town of Harrisville is a designated National Historic Landmark, known for its remarkably preserved 19th-century industrial village, which adds a layer of historic charm to your trip to the recreation area.
The accessibility of the site is designed to accommodate various types of vehicles and visitors. The property includes a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that the natural beauty of the area is reachable for individuals with mobility challenges. Once on-site, the layout is clear and easy to navigate, with dedicated parking areas that help keep the camping and trail zones organized and safe. Whether you are hauling a trailer with a custom buggy or driving a family SUV for a weekend of hiking, the physical transition from the state highway to the forest interior is seamless.
Field & Forest Recreation Area provides a range of services designed to support both active recreation and restful camping. Because the facility is often used for specialized events, the service level is high, with a focus on cleanliness and logistical efficiency. Key services offered include:
- Designated tent sites located in wooded settings to provide privacy and a true "forest" feel.
- Event-based camping availability, often coordinated with off-road competitions or club meets.
- On-site logistical support for off-roaders, including trail guidance and safety oversight.
- Maintained facilities that include tidy restroom areas and clean common spaces.
- Waste management services to ensure the campground remains "tidy and clean," as noted by frequent visitors.
- Information and booking services through their official website to help guests plan around specific event calendars.
The highlights of this recreation area are what truly set it apart from other campgrounds in the Monadnock region. It successfully balances being a "kid-friendly" environment with the rugged demands of high-level off-roading. Highlights include:
- World-Class Off-Road Trails: These aren't your typical dirt roads. The trails here are legendary among the off-road community, ranging from moderate paths to extreme challenges suitable only for "serious buggies."
- Hiking and Nature Trails: For those not interested in motorized sports, the area offers beautiful hiking opportunities that allow visitors to explore the local flora and fauna.
- Family and Kid-Friendly Features: The campground is noted for being "good for kids," offering kid-friendly hikes and a safe environment for younger campers to explore.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: Dogs are allowed, making it a great option for families who travel with their four-legged members.
- Picnic Amenities: Each site is typically equipped with picnic tables, encouraging families to enjoy outdoor meals in the fresh New Hampshire air.
- Photography and Media Opportunities: Even if you don't have a rig, the action on the trails provides incredible footage and photo opportunities for spectators.
If you are planning a visit or need to coordinate a group event, having the direct contact information for the facility is vital. Because of the event-specific nature of their operations, reaching out in advance is always the best practice for New Hampshire locals.
- Address: 890 NH-137, Harrisville, NH 03450, USA
- Inquiry Method: Visitors are encouraged to check the official Field & Forest Recreation Area website for the current event schedule and booking details.
Choosing Field & Forest Recreation Area is worth it for anyone who wants a camping experience that is specialized and well-managed. For the off-road community, it is arguably the best "wheeling" spot in the Northeast, offering terrain that is difficult to find elsewhere. For local families, it provides a clean and safe environment to introduce children to the joys of camping and hiking without the overwhelming crowds found at larger public parks.
The "well-run, clean, and tidy" nature of the campground, as highlighted by travelers from as far as South Carolina, speaks to the dedication of the staff. When you choose this area, you are supporting a facility that respects the land while providing high-octane fun. It is a place where you can spend the morning tackling a rocky incline and the afternoon enjoying a quiet picnic by your tent. For New Hampshire residents looking for a weekend that combines adventure with a professional level of facility care, Field & Forest is a premier selection that delivers on its promises.

As someone from south carolina who has visited many offroad parks and campgrounds all over the country, this one maintains its spot on the podium of my list, for not only some of the best wheeling on the planet but also a well run, clean, and tidy campground. I will be back highly recommended
Only open for events - see the website for details. Amazing trails - not for stock, but if you have a serious off-road buggy, this is the place in the Northeast to go! If you’ve got a stock rig, bring your camera and shoot some amazing footage. Also great campground but only open for events. Excellent staff excellent facilities!
Not just some of the BEST wheeling NE has to offer! Favorite spot for a weekend outdoor adventure getaway! Yes this is a four wheeling destination, but don't forget your mountain bike, kayak, and fishing poles, and RC cars!Bob & Liza go above and beyond for their guests. The trails are amazing for most skill levels of drivers And vehicles. The 4x4 trails are worth the trip by themselves. But this place has so much more to offer. The groomed fields just keep going and going. Kids can get back to being kids before the electronic age! Everything right in one spot without leaving the campground. Nice pond for a canoe/kayak and fishing. Plenty of trails for hiking around. Lots of room for kids to ride bikes. Relax by a fire pit and stare into the wide open space as millions of stars appear after dark. They even deliver fire wood right to your site! A most wonderful and glorious place to bring the whole family for a relaxing weekend back to nature! And you can legally drive your 4x4 in the woods too.
The best trails I've ever been on. For the record, I drove R/C trucks here at the RCEC Event, Ledgestock. I did ride on a full sized buggy too and it was an amazing experience. The facility owners are great people.
Awesome place to wheel if you ever get the invite. Best for tube buggys or full cage rigs. Body damage WILL occur
