Frosty Acres Campground Introduce
Frosty Acres Campground, situated in the picturesque hills of Duanesburg just outside of Schenectady, New York, offers a classic outdoor retreat for residents of the Capital Region and beyond. Perched at an elevation of 1,250 feet above sea level, this privately-owned campground is celebrated for its sweeping panoramic views that stretch across the valley on clear days. As a dual-purpose destination serving both seasonal residents and nightly travelers, the park provides a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, where the mountain breezes help dispel the midsummer heat of Upstate New York.
The campground is designed to cater to a variety of outdoor preferences, ranging from traditional tent camping under the stars to modern RV living with all the comforts of home. With over 200 sites spread across its rolling landscape, Frosty Acres focuses on fostering a community-centric atmosphere. The park is particularly known for its themed weekends—such as "Christmas in July" and "Halloween in August"—which bring families together for unique celebrations and organized entertainment throughout the peak summer season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Location and accessibility are major considerations for visitors traveling through the New York interior. Frosty Acres Campground is located at 1560 Skyline Dr, Schenectady, NY 12306. Accessing the park involves a scenic drive through the outskirts of the city, transitioning from major highways into the quieter, winding roads of the hills. For those coming from the New York State Thruway (I-90) or I-88, the park is positioned within a manageable distance from regional hubs like Albany, Troy, and Saratoga Springs. This proximity makes it a convenient choice for local families looking for a "staycation" that feels worlds away from the suburbs.
The park is designed with modern accessibility in mind, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and parking lots. Navigating the terrain of a hillside park can sometimes be challenging, but the main facility areas are structured to be inclusive for all guests. The park’s layout offers a mix of sunny, open sites perfect for satellite reception and shaded wooded spots for those seeking a more secluded forest experience. Visitors should be mindful of the elevation change, which ensures cooler evenings and a distinct mountain-air quality that is a hallmark of the Duanesburg region.
Services at Frosty Acres are comprehensive, aiming to provide a full-service experience for both short-term visitors and long-term seasonal campers. The park emphasizes convenience, offering several on-site utilities and amenities that reduce the need for frequent trips back into town. Management accepts various forms of payment, including credit cards and NFC mobile payments, ensuring that checking in and purchasing supplies is efficient and professional.

When evaluating which campground is worth choosing in the Schenectady area, Frosty Acres is a top contender for those who value scenic beauty and a structured community environment. It is worth choosing for travelers who appreciate high-altitude views and the unique microclimate of the Duanesburg hills, which often remains several degrees cooler than the valley floor. The park’s commitment to organized activities makes it an excellent choice for families with children who thrive on the social aspect of camping and enjoy the "summer camp" feel of themed events.
Furthermore, the park is a practical choice for RV owners who require full hookups and big-rig friendly sites within striking distance of the state capital. The ability to access full sewer and 50-amp electric service in such a remote-feeling location is a significant benefit for long-term travelers. If you are looking for a place that combines traditional New York hospitality with a wide range of on-site activities and stunning sunrises, Frosty Acres Campground provides a well-rounded and memorable outdoor experience. It remains a staple of the local camping scene, offering a reliable and engaging destination for those who love the great outdoors.

Did a small family party and the grounds let in someone that we didn’t know who was drunk and came to start DV problems then kicked us out when we weren’t the problem. A family that requested to be close together as possible and was placed all the way in the back on a hill when there were bigger sites below but told no other sites were available. Sites were cramped. Garbage was hanging from the site numbers. One bathroom you had to side step to get in and when you did get in the stalls were small. There was only 2 and one had a pink toilet with dragnet water in it and broken. The other wouldn’t flush most the time. In another bathroom the seats were cracked. We will never go back.
Huge party with many loud people and loud music went until midnight. Called owner at 9:45 to stop the noise, he said he’d take care of it and nothing changed for hours afterwards. Don’t go here unless you love lots of loud noise and no sleep!!!!
It was a wild and crazy camping trip. Quiet at a reasonable hour. site was clean. Very nice atmosphere. Heard the geese or ducks and I'm pretty sure bullfrogs also. It rained when I went(alot) it didn't flood on my site. Great place 2 ponds, basketball courts all and all great place for family adventure or some peaceful soul searching, reading a book while chilling to some of your best musical Playlist.
Female owner is rude and very unprofessional. The cabin was dirty the fridge the microwave the curtains the toilet the floor the shower were all dirty and the trash can had old garbage that smelled of fish…. The grill outside was dirty and they had nothing to clean it…Just all around terrible experience
Was hauling camper from out of town, needed to find a dumping location. WHen asked, staff rudely "we dont do that here". Ok not problem, "do you know of any camp or rv sites in the area?" "NO". Staff alone will be reason for me to never return
