Goose Creek Campground Introduce

Goose Creek Campground is a tranquil and highly-regarded outdoor destination located within the secure grounds of Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River in Southern Maryland. Nestled along the scenic shores of the Patuxent River, this campground serves as a vital recreational hub for the military community, providing a perfect blend of natural beauty and functional amenities. It is a favored choice for those looking to escape the hustle of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area without sacrificing safety or essential services. The atmosphere is one of peaceful seclusion, characterized by mature tree coverage and expansive waterfront views that capture the essence of the Chesapeake Bay region.

The campground is part of the Navy Getaways program, ensuring a standard of quality and service that military families have come to trust. Whether you are seeking a quiet weekend to "leave the world behind" or an active vacation filled with outdoor sports, Goose Creek offers a versatile environment. Its location on a major naval installation means that guests can enjoy their stay with an added layer of security and access to a wide variety of base-exclusive perks. From the sound of the morning colors to the sight of advanced naval aircraft in the distance, a stay at Goose Creek is a unique experience that combines patriotic pride with the serenity of the Maryland wilderness.

Location and accessibility are key highlights of the Goose Creek experience. The facility is situated at Patuxent River, MD 20670, deeply embedded within the NAS Patuxent River installation near the West Basin Marina. Because the campground is located on a restricted military base, accessibility is limited to authorized personnel. This typically includes active-duty service members, reservists, military retirees, 100% disabled veterans, and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees. This exclusivity ensures that the grounds remain uncrowded and well-maintained. Local users from the Maryland region will find the site easy to reach via State Route 235, providing a convenient getaway for those stationed at or working near the base.

The campground is designed to be inclusive and accommodating. It features a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot, ensuring that all eligible visitors can enjoy the great outdoors. For those traveling with larger equipment, the paved roads and on-site parking make navigating the area straightforward. While the location offers a sense of being "off the grid," it is strategically positioned within walking distance of the base beach, the Cedar Point Golf Course, and various fishing and crabbing spots, making it an ideal anchor for a multi-day adventure.

  • Onsite services provided by professional MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) staff to assist with check-in and local information.
  • Dedicated RV camping sites with water and electrical hookups (30/50 amp) to accommodate vehicles of various sizes.
  • Primitive and semi-improved tent sites for those who prefer a more traditional camping experience.
  • Clean and well-maintained public restrooms and shower facilities located centrally within the campground.
  • Picnic tables provided at individual sites for convenient outdoor dining and gatherings.
  • Access to a community dump station located approximately 3 to 4 miles from the main campground area.
  • On-site parking available for both primary vehicles and additional guest cars.
  • Year-round availability, allowing Marylanders to enjoy the changing seasons along the river.

The features and highlights of Goose Creek Campground are what truly set it apart from other local options. The campground is celebrated for its spacious sites, many of which offer significant tree coverage that provides both shade and a sense of privacy. Some sites are so large they feel like two separate spots combined, giving families plenty of room to spread out. The proximity to the water is perhaps the greatest draw, as many sites offer direct or partial views of the river, providing a stunning backdrop for sunrises and evening campfires.

  • Stunning waterfront views and easy access to the Patuxent River shoreline for beach activities.
  • Excellent opportunities for fishing and crabbing, with designated areas located just a short walk from the campsites.
  • Family-friendly environment that is explicitly noted as being "good for kids," with plenty of space for play and exploration.
  • Proximity to the Cedar Point Golf Course, allowing campers to enjoy a round of golf just minutes from their tent or RV.
  • Close access to the West Basin Marina for boat rentals, including kayaks and paddleboards, to explore the local waterways.
  • A pet-friendly policy that welcomes dogs, making it a true family getaway.
  • Quiet and secluded atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation and mental rejuvenation.
  • High level of security provided by the controlled access of the naval installation.

For those interested in booking a stay or seeking more specific details regarding site availability and current base access policies, the campground staff can be reached directly. It is always recommended to call ahead, especially during peak summer months or holiday weekends, to ensure your eligibility is verified and your reservation is confirmed.

I really liked my site. Good tree coverage and a lot of space. It felt like it could have been two separate spots. Good for a weekend getaway to relax and leave the world behind. Phone service in the area isn't good if you have T-Mobile. Dumpsite is about 3 or 4 miles down the road. Staff was awesome. The are pleasant and very helpful.

Stone locations are better than others as far as view. Great location for base beach and golf course. Ended up leaving a couple days early because camp spot was boring.

Horrible place. Do not waste your money. You pay over $3000 annually for a site with zero benefits. The bathhouses have been out of commission for over 2 years with promises to have them up and running. There is also no septic hook up and to have your rv pumped they charge you. They also have a beautiful dock and launch unfortunately the launch fee is not included in your annual lot lease. This place is dirty hole in the wall and you get nothing for your money. Stay away at all costs!!!!!

Nice and cozy. I tent camped on a Thursday and Friday night. The main bathhouse has showers and toilets but there's also porta-potties appropriately dispersed throughout the site. Expect tons of aircraft noise during working hours, but not so much otherwise.

We always enjoy our time here. It's quiet and relaxing, I love watching and listening to the eagles that reside there!
