Hemlock Hideaway Campground Introduce

For Pennsylvania residents seeking a true escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Hemlock Hideaway Campground offers a tranquil sanctuary nestled in the scenic heart of Huntingdon County. Located on the side of Bunn Mountain in James Creek, this privately owned campground spans over 83 acres of lush, wooded terrain. As its name and address on Seclusion Lane suggest, the primary appeal for local campers is the profound sense of privacy and the immersive natural environment that defines the property. Whether you are a regular visitor to the Raystown Lake region or a first-time explorer of the Allegany highlands, Hemlock Hideaway provides a professional yet rustic atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.

The campground is strategically positioned to offer the best of both worlds: complete wooded seclusion and rapid access to one of Pennsylvania’s premier recreational landmarks. Raystown Lake, known for its pristine waters and world-class fishing, is located just one mile from the campground entrance. This allows guests to spend their days boating, swimming, or hiking along the shoreline before retreating to the quiet, shaded canopy of the hideaway. The management at Hemlock Hideaway takes great pride in maintaining a peaceful environment where families can reconnect, children can play safely, and the natural beauty of the Pennsylvania Wilds is preserved for all to enjoy.

Location and accessibility are key highlights for Pennsylvanians planning their outdoor adventures. Situated at 17621 Seclusion Ln, James Creek, PA 16657, the campground is easily reachable for those traveling from major hubs like Altoona, State College, or even the Harrisburg area. The site features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that the beauty of the mountain is available to all guests. For those towing large trailers or driving expansive RVs, the on-site parking is designed to be spacious and manageable. The drive to James Creek itself is a treat, featuring the rolling hills and picturesque farmland that define the south-central Pennsylvania landscape.

In addition to its prime location near the Tatman Run boat launch and beach area, Hemlock Hideaway is designed with the modern camper's convenience in mind. While the setting is rustic, the facility embraces technology and accessibility, offering diverse payment options including debit cards and NFC mobile payments. This blend of traditional camping charm and modern utility makes it a standout choice for the contemporary traveler who values both the serenity of the woods and the ease of professional service.

Hemlock Hideaway Campground offers a comprehensive suite of onsite services to ensure every stay is comfortable and rewarding. The management is known for being friendly and accommodating, providing a personal touch that larger corporate parks often lack. The services provided include:

  • Diverse lodging options including spacious RV sites, primitive tent sites, and rustic cabin rentals.
  • Full-service onsite management and a well-stocked camp store featuring essentials, treats, and ice cream.
  • Modern and clean bathhouses equipped with hot showers and toilets.
  • On-site laundry facilities, making extended stays more convenient for families and long-term campers.
  • Secure, on-site parking specifically designed for both standard vehicles and boat trailers.
  • Electronic payment processing, including support for mobile tap-to-pay and major debit cards.

The features and highlights of the campground are curated to provide a balanced experience of recreation and relaxation. Guests often remark on the spaciousness of the sites and the dense tree cover that provides cooling shade even during the peak of a Pennsylvania summer. Key features include:

  • Secluded and wooded sites that offer maximum privacy between camping groups.
  • A family-friendly atmosphere that is highly rated for being "good for kids," featuring a dedicated playground and game room.
  • A heated in-ground swimming pool for guests to enjoy a refreshing dip.
  • Dog-friendly policies that welcome four-legged family members to join the adventure.
  • Indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, including a basketball court, volleyball, and hiking trails within the 83-acre property.
  • A private fishing pond located on the premises, perfect for a quiet afternoon with a rod and reel.
  • Close proximity to Trough Creek State Park and the internationally-acclaimed Allegrippis Trail System for mountain biking enthusiasts.

What is worth choosing about Hemlock Hideaway Campground is the authentic "hideaway" experience it delivers. While many campgrounds near Raystown Lake can become crowded and noisy during the summer months, Hemlock Hideaway remains a bastion of peace. Its location on Bunn Mountain provides a natural buffer from the high-traffic lake areas, yet you are still only minutes away from the water. The cabins, while rustic, are consistently praised for their cleanliness and the charming atmosphere they provide for those who prefer four walls and a roof over a tent.

Furthermore, the value of the experience is bolstered by the sheer variety of activities available both on-site and in the immediate vicinity. For the active traveler, the nearby 1,000 Steps hiking trail and the vast network of mountain biking trails offer physical challenges, while the campground’s own pool and game room provide leisure for the whole family. The "dogs allowed" policy and the "good for kids" environment mean that no one has to be left behind. When you choose Hemlock Hideaway, you are choosing a community-minded business that understands the local Pennsylvania culture of outdoor appreciation, neighborly respect, and the simple joy of a campfire under a starlit sky. It is a location that invites you to unplug, breathe the mountain air, and discover why so many guests return multiple times every year.

In conclusion, Hemlock Hideaway Campground represents the quintessential Pennsylvania camping destination. It successfully bridges the gap between the ruggedness of the wild and the comforts of a professional facility. For those seeking a secluded, wooded retreat near the shores of Raystown Lake, there is perhaps no better place to set up camp. From the friendly greetings of the staff to the quiet rustle of the hemlock trees on Bunn Mountain, every element of the stay is designed to help you relax and rediscover the beauty of the Commonwealth’s outdoors.

Cabins are rustic, but clean everything we go (2-3 times per year) Staff are very friendly and courteous. Little farther from the lake than we would prefer, but still close and so nicely shaded!

The camp site was too small. We had a big hill and rocks surrounding the fire ring. We struggled to get everyone in our party to be comfortable around it.Mini golf was over priced and the service was awful. The girls in the store was rude and not very helpful.

My daughters and I came here to get ice cream on 07/06. We were told it was really good and we had to try it. Honestly I’ll say that the service that we received from start to finish from the young bleach blonde girl was horrible. She obviously either doesn’t like her job or maybe it’s something deeper but she was very unfriendly. We ordered our ice cream and I took one bite of it and couldn’t eat anymore. I really think it was the way we were treated that left a bad taste in my mouth but we will not be going back. Customer service is HUGE and that is what has people coming back to spend their hard earned money on overpriced ice cream. Please train your staff to be kind even if they are having a bad day or keep them out of the window.
