Shady Maple Campground Introduce
Shady Maple Campground offers a classic, back-to-basics outdoor experience for those looking to explore the beautiful landscapes of Huntingdon County. Nestled in the rural quietude of Broad Top City, Pennsylvania, this campground lives up to its name by providing a heavily wooded environment that offers a natural canopy for its residents. For many local Pennsylvanians, Shady Maple represents a simpler era of camping, where the focus remains on the rustling leaves, the evening campfire, and the opportunity to disconnect from the digital world. It serves as a long-standing community for seasonal campers and those seeking a low-key home base while visiting the nearby recreational landmarks.
The atmosphere at Shady Maple Campground is distinctly quiet and unhurried. Unlike larger, resort-style campgrounds that may feel bustling and commercialized, Shady Maple caters to individuals and families who prioritize peace and tranquility. It is widely recognized by its regular visitors as a "peace and quiet" destination. While it may not feature the high-end amenities found in luxury RV parks, its charm lies in its authenticity and the friendly demeanor of the neighboring campers who have frequented these grounds for decades. It is a place where neighbors often know each other by name, and the dense maple and oak trees provide a welcome respite from the humid Pennsylvania summers.
Location and Accessibility are key factors for anyone considering a stay in this region. Shady Maple Campground is situated at 18236 Shady Maple Rd, Broad Top City, PA 16621, USA. Its location is strategically advantageous for outdoor enthusiasts because it sits just a few miles away from the eastern shores of Raystown Lake. This allows campers to enjoy the affordability and quiet of a smaller camp while remaining within a short driving distance of the lake’s world-class boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities. The campground is accessible via rural Pennsylvania routes, winding through the scenic ridges and valleys of the Appalachian range. For guests with mobility considerations, the facility provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot to facilitate entry to the main grounds.
Services Offered at Shady Maple Campground are focused on providing the fundamental requirements for an outdoor stay. The management emphasizes a "no-frills" approach that keeps the environment focused on the nature surrounding the sites. The service offerings include the following:

Features and Highlights of the campground make it a unique choice in the Central Pennsylvania region. While the park does not feature a swimming pool or a modern recreation hall, it offers several key highlights that appeal to traditionalists and nature lovers:

- Individual picnic tables at campsites, perfect for family meals and outdoor socializing.
- A small on-site playground area featuring swings and slides, providing a space for children to burn off energy.
- Proximity to world-class hiking and mountain biking trails located throughout the Raystown Lake area.
- A quiet, road-noise-free environment that is ideal for bird watching and wildlife photography.
- A dog-friendly atmosphere (subject to local rules) that allows you to bring your furry companions along for the mountain retreat.
- Spacious sites that are often described as being less crowded than high-density commercial parks.

What is worth choosing at Shady Maple Campground is the opportunity for a genuine, undisturbed "woods" experience. If you are a camper who finds high-traffic parks with constant activities to be overwhelming, Shady Maple is worth choosing for its silence. It is an ideal spot for retirees or couples who want to spend their days reading under the trees or for boaters who want a cost-effective place to park their rig while spending the majority of their daylight hours on the water at Raystown. The "friendly neighbor" vibe is a recurring theme among those who stay there, creating a sense of community that is increasingly rare in modern travel.
Furthermore, it is worth choosing for its historical connection to the Broad Top region. With some families having frequented the site for nearly half a century, there is a deep sense of tradition embedded in the soil. While it lacks modern digital amenities like Wi-Fi or cable TV, this can be viewed as an advantage for those specifically seeking a "digital detox." Choosing Shady Maple means choosing a lifestyle where the primary entertainment is a crackling fire and the company of good friends. It remains a staple of the Broad Top City area, providing a simple, shaded, and quiet refuge for those who truly love the Pennsylvania outdoors.

Customer Reviews
I have my camper here and we love it so far! The campground is mostly shaded and all our neighbors are very friendly. There is no pool or rec room but if you just want peace and quiet this is a great place and only a few miles to raystown.😁🏞
My family had a camp at Shady Maple for just shy of 50 years. You will find the fellow campers friendly. The numerous trees provide welcome relief from the mid-day sun. Many great memories were made there, but time changes things. After the tragic passing of their father the boys now manage the camp, and you will find them significantly less than welcoming. This toxic environment caused many of my family members to leave and buy their own camps at other sites or stop going to the lake altogether. A few of us stuck it out till the end. If you are looking for a site to park your camper at Shady Maple here are some things to consider. If you have young children or grandchildren, there is a tiny playground that is not well kept and some equipment is not safe. There are no paved roads, WIFI, cable TV service, pool, game room or general store. For the boaters there is no under roof boat storage area. If you are a tent camper the bath house and laundry are outdated and are not clean and well kept. Compared to other sites, Shady Maple is a place for your camper but lacks a lot of amenities that other sites provide. Happy camping wherever you land.
