Keen Lake Camping Cottage Resort Introduce

For residents across the Keystone State, the Pocono Mountains have long been a sanctuary for those looking to trade the urban hum for the rustle of pine needles and the lap of lake water. Keen Lake Camping Cottage Resort, a 90-acre spring-fed mountain lake destination in Waymart, Pennsylvania, stands as a testament to this tradition. Proudly identifying as a women-owned business, the resort has been managed by the Keen family for over 70 years. This deep-rooted history is felt the moment you arrive, as the grounds are infused with a sense of "gathering at the lake" that spans generations. Whether you are seeking a quiet weekend in a rustic cottage or an active family vacation in a modern RV, Keen Lake offers a meticulously maintained environment where the primary goal is to reconnect with nature and one another.

The resort is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it is a historical landmark in Wayne County. The property sits on land that once hosted a gravity coal-mining railway, and today, visitors can camp along "Gravity Lane," where the tracks once hummed with industrial activity. From the restored 19th-century schoolhouse cottage to the pre-Civil War barn that once housed a blacksmith shop, the resort blends Pennsylvania’s rich heritage with contemporary outdoor hospitality. For local Pennsylvanians, it represents a slice of the Poconos that has remained authentic, family-oriented, and dedicated to the simple joys of a campfire under the stars.

Location and accessibility are key components of the Keen Lake experience. Situated at 155 Keen Lake Rd, Waymart, PA 18472, the resort is conveniently located just off Route 6, one of Pennsylvania’s most scenic byways. This makes it an easy drive for those traveling from Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, or even the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia regions. The entrance is designed to be welcoming and accessible, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance to ensure that all guests can enjoy the facilities. Once on the grounds, the layout is spacious, allowing for easy navigation for large RV units while still maintaining secluded pockets for those who prefer the traditional tenting experience.

Accessibility extends beyond the front gate. The resort features ADA-compliant lodging, such as the Yellow Cottage, which is specifically designed with walk-in showers and open-concept layouts to accommodate guests with physical disabilities. The proximity to the historic town of Honesdale—voted one of the best small towns in Pennsylvania—adds another layer of convenience, offering local breweries, boutique shopping, and seasonal festivals just a short drive away. This balance of secluded mountain air and easy access to local culture makes Waymart a prime location for a Pennsylvania getaway.

When considering what is worth choosing for a Pennsylvania camping trip, Keen Lake Camping Cottage Resort stands out for its commitment to the family experience. For families with children, the resort is a treasure trove of "firsts"—from a child’s first fish caught on the lake to their first time sleeping in a safari tent. The sheer volume of kid-friendly hikes and activities makes it a place where parents can relax while children engage in safe, supervised play. The presence of a dedicated Pet Beach also makes it an easy choice for dog owners who often struggle to find truly pet-welcoming vacation spots.

Furthermore, the variety of lodging is a major draw. If you are a "non-camper" who still loves the outdoors, choosing one of the luxury cottages or glamping units allows you to enjoy the fresh mountain air with the comfort of a real bed and a kitchen. For the seasoned RVer, the spacious sites and full hookups provide the reliability needed for a stress-free stay. Above all, it is the peaceful atmosphere and the visible pride of the Keen sisters in their family legacy that make this resort worth choosing. It is a place where memories are not just made, but where they are kept and celebrated year after year, making it a cornerstone of Pennsylvania’s outdoor hospitality.

Whether you are looking for a spa for the soul or a "Wild West" adventure weekend, Keen Lake provides the canvas for your ideal vacation. Its combination of historical charm, modern amenities, and inclusive environment ensures that every guest—whether it is their first year or their fourteenth—finds exactly what they need at the lake. It is a destination that proves that in Pennsylvania, the best traditions are the ones shared around a crackling campfire with friends and family.

The minute I set foot on this camp ground, I felt peaceful; the cottage I stayed in is practical and spacious. It blended in beautifully with the soothing surroundings of nature's sounds: wildlife flourishing in a lake surrounded by huge trees. The friendly faces of the excellent and thoughtful staff brought me back to my camp memories from childhood. The camp ground has ample activities for families and children, numerous quiet spots to feel serene and happy. Keen Lake Resort is a spa for the mind and soul and will be my favorite vacation spot for many years in the future.

Our recent trip was nothing short of amazing year 14 for us. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by friendly familiar faces, stunning lake views, peaceful nature sounds, and a sense of calm you just can’t find in the city. The grounds are as always clean, well-maintained, and spacious enough for all our gear, with plenty of room to relax. We spent our days relaxing lake or pool side and our nights surrounded by fire stargazing and making our wonderful family memories. The fresh air, the crackling campfire, and the chance to unplug made this experience truly refreshing. What made it even better was the great company and the little moments—laughing around the fire, early morning coffee with a view, and that satisfying tiredness after a full day outside.Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to recharge and reconnect with nature. We’re already talking about our next trip!

We had such a wonderful long weekend at Keen Lake Camping! Our family stayed in one of the glamping tents and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming — it truly feels like a family-run place. The staff were so helpful and kind, always ready to support us and even gave us great recommendations for local trails and farmers markets. Our glamping tent had a beautiful view of the lake, and we had what felt like our own little private nook.We grilled, relaxed, and spent quality time together as a family. It was the perfect opportunity to reconnect, slow down, and enjoy nature. Everything felt peaceful, safe, and easy with a little one and a dog in tow.We rented kayaks and spent time together on the water. It is a beautiful area, lots of nature and the sight hosts lots of great events and activities for young ones. The only downside is that the glamping area is a bit apart from the main office. In a nice way it makes it more private, and we loved it, but it did mean driving 2 minutes when we needed supplies or such. Small inconvenience and not at all something that will stop us from coming back.We would highly recommend Keen Lake Camping to anyone looking for a relaxing, family-friendly getaway — and we can’t wait to come back!

Came for a weekend with my wife and we enjoyed it. Staff is friendly and we are looking forward to bringing the kids in the future. Plenty to do from fishing, a beach, dog beach, a small store with all the supplies you’d need. There’s bathrooms and showers too. Some sites are offer electric and some don’t. Lots of options.
