Choosing the right campground in Pennsylvania often comes down to the specific needs of your group. Ponderosa Pines is worth choosing if you value a sense of community and a return to the basics of camping. It is particularly well-suited for families with children who enjoy traditional outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, and playing on a playground. The spacious cabins are a major selling point for those who may not own an RV but still want the "cabin in the woods" experience with enough room for the whole family to spread out. The inclusion of lofts in the cabins adds a layer of excitement for kids, making the stay feel like a true adventure.
However, it is important for prospective visitors, especially long-term RV users, to be aware of current infrastructure updates. Recent feedback from the community has noted changes to the utility services at the dump station. Specifically, as of 2025, some visitors have observed the removal of the water spigot at the dump station, which currently impacts the ability to rinse and flush black tanks on-site. For many local RVers who prioritize full-service maintenance of their sanitary systems, this is a detail to consider. It is always recommended to call ahead to the campground office at (570) 253-2080 to check if these specific utility features have been updated or restored before your trip.
Ultimately, Ponderosa Pines Family Campground represents a slice of traditional Pennsylvania life. It is a place where memories are made over toasted marshmallows, where children make friends at the pool, and where the stress of the modern world feels miles away. For those in the Honesdale area or anyone looking for a quiet corner of Wayne County to call home for a few days, this campground offers a friendly, pet-welcoming, and authentic outdoor experience. If you are looking for high-gloss, high-tech resort living, this may not be your first choice, but if you are looking for heart, hospitality, and a touch of 90s nostalgia, it is a destination that delivers exactly what it promises.
The beauty of this Honesdale gem lies in its simplicity. From the friendly resident cat to the quiet evenings under the pines, it captures a specific type of Pennsylvania magic that keeps families coming back for decades. Whether you are bringing a tent, a trailer, or just a suitcase for a cabin stay, the welcoming environment of Ponderosa Pines is ready to host your next family tradition.

My family loved staying at this campground for decades. Then they removed the water spigot from the dump station in 2025...defeating its purpose. Now you can't dump since there's no way to rinse/flush your black tank. I've never seen a dump station without a water spigot. If you enjoy camping without a way to properly clean and maintain your RV's black tank, this is the place for you. We're hoping the water spigot at the dump station will be replaced at some point so we can enjoy this campground again. Until then, we'll be staying where there's water available to rinse sewage out of our sanitary system properly.
Ponderosa Pines Family Campground is a charming, rustic spot that gave me all the nostalgic ’90s campground vibes, in the best way! It’s cozy, peaceful, and has that laid back atmosphere you don’t find in bigger, modern resorts. We stayed in one of the cabins and were pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was for our family of 7. The loft was a huge hit with the kids! While the sites are on the smaller side, we never felt cramped, and the layout still felt comfortable and family-friendly.The pool was clean and refreshing, a great way to cool off during the day. The little on site store itself was convenient, and the real star? Their friendly resident cat who loves attention and happily greets everyone who stops by! My kids wanted to keep going back to the store to pet her!If you’re looking for a simple, relaxed camping experience with a bit of old-school charm, Ponderosa Pines fits the bill. We’ll definitely stay again when we’re in the neighborhood.
Had the best few days there with family and friends. We loved our cabins and the seasonal campers, as usual, were so welcoming. It was my 3rd time there and it will not be the last. Thanks Jen and Mike for everything.
This used to be a great campground. Then they upped prices, decided if you want a friend to stop by your campsite for an hour you have to pay additional (and not just $5/person like most places), and above all that there is no dump station for RVs anymore. Sure the hole is still there but when asked they told us most people are going down to other campgrounds to dump because they have no way of fully dumping since there's no hose. We had to drive down to Keen Lake to dump and use their actual dump station that has what you need to do it right. PP is absolutely disgusting that they don't have this option. How can they raise the price and lower the service? Ridiculous, we won't be coming back.
Both owners were helpful and nice. We booked a site that wasn't good for tent camping and they were able to help us rebook to a lake front tent site. The pond was perfect for fishing! We had a blast
