Lake Compounce Campground Introduce
Lake Compounce Campground, often affectionately referred to by its formal name Bear Creek Campground, offers a unique outdoor hospitality experience that serves as the residential gateway to America’s oldest continuously operating amusement park. Located in the picturesque hills of Southington and Bristol, Connecticut, this facility transforms a simple day trip into a multi-day family adventure. Designed to accommodate the modern traveler while retaining the classic charm of a New England summer retreat, the campground provides a specialized environment where the thrills of world-class roller coasters meet the evening serenity of a campfire. It is a premier destination for local Connecticut residents and regional travelers who want to maximize their time at Lake Compounce and Crocodile Cove water park.
The community is structured to cater to a wide demographic, ranging from dedicated "park-baggers" checking off historic coasters to families looking for a convenient and safe place to introduce children to the joys of camping. Managed with a professional focus on security and friendliness, the campground serves as a self-contained ecosystem where guests can move seamlessly between their campsite and the park's main entrance. Since its opening as a modern addition to the park’s legendary 175-plus year history, it has become a staple for those seeking a "stay and play" vacation that eliminates the need for daily commutes and parking fees, allowing for a more relaxed and immersive experience in the Litchfield Hills region.
Location and accessibility are the cornerstone advantages of Lake Compounce Campground. Situated at 185 Enterprise Dr, Southington, CT 06489, the park is remarkably easy to reach from major Connecticut hubs. Located just off I-84, it is approximately a 20-minute drive from Hartford and Waterbury, and about 40 minutes from New Haven. This central positioning makes it an ideal "staycation" spot for residents of the Nutmeg State. For those traveling with large vehicles, the campground features a well-organized layout with a wheelchair-accessible parking lot and flat, easy-to-navigate pathways that ensure the facility is inclusive for all guests regardless of mobility requirements.
Once on the property, residents benefit from a dedicated tram and shuttle service that runs throughout the day, transporting campers directly to the park gates. This service is a significant highlight for families with small children or those carrying heavy gear for a day at the water park. Beyond the amusement park’s borders, the local area provides access to essential services in Southington and Bristol, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and a variety of local dining options ranging from classic diners to modern Italian eateries. The facility’s placement at the end of Enterprise Drive ensures that while it is close to the highway, it remains tucked away from high-traffic commercial zones.

Nothing very special about this campground. No interesting natural features, it’s sort of like a natural parking lot.The tent sites are close together, and quiet hours are not enforced. The staff is very friendly. There are entirely too many tent sites for the amount of bathroom amenities available. We went on a holiday weekend and there was no toilet paper left by Friday afternoon. There are 44 tent sites, which allow a max of 6 people (264), and nobody is counting the amount of people. There are 5 toilets per gender and two showers..my suggestion would be to have less tent sites, further apart and more water accessibility.
We love the RV park. We bring our grandchildren on short weekend trips. Coupled with our season passes makes for a great weekend. Campground is clean and well kept, staff is friendly and security is present all the time. Only negative is trash cans no longer on end of isles.
We had a great family memory here!! We would return! Fireworks can be seen at campground however it is way better at the park. You can also view them in the parking lot! All staff were friendly we connected with and you also get VIP parking to the park. It was great to leave and come back to lake as you wished. If you are a season pass holder, you get a discount so I felt the price was great! They allow you to have dogs which I love!! I believe this is for certain sites. We did the RV. Passing by the cabins, I do like the step up they have here.Only thing I would recommend is cleanliness of the bathrooms and showers. We were there for 5 days. I am unsure if the bathrooms were ever cleaned.
My son and I have been coming here for years. He was 5 when we started "glamping" in their cub huts, and now he's 12 and still wants to go. The staff couldn't be better, the cub huts are ideal for those who appreciate mod-cons like tv, climate control and a mini-fridge, but since you need to use the campground bathrooms (which are very well maintained), you're 'roughing it" just a bit.Their store is open 24 hours, and you get preferred parking at the amusement park, which is a definite perk. (Go to the right most lane and you'll be directed to the preferred lot.) We also bought our tickets from the campground, and doing so, definitely saved a lot of time and money. We bought tickets for $35 each and the next day was free (!) When you get to the amusement park, you'll walk by the long lines waiting to buy tickets and walk ahead to scan your paper teasy. At the turnstiles. Easy peasy. The grounds have a playground, a gaga pit, a volleyball court, basketball hoop and corn hole. The store has groceries, souvenirs, and chess and checkers to play. I'll keep going as long as my kid wants to.
Great place for an overnight friendly staff, great utilities and level clean sites. If not going to amusement park not much else to do but easy access and near services.
