Lake Kandle Introduce

For families in Southern New Jersey seeking a dedicated summer sanctuary, Lake Kandle has long been a cherished destination. Located in Sewell, within the heart of Washington Township, this private facility operates as a combined swim club and RV campground. Established in 1960 and managed by the Kandle family for over six decades, it has built a reputation as a "hidden gem" where residents can escape the daily grind without leaving Gloucester County. Unlike public parks, Lake Kandle maintains an exclusive, family-oriented atmosphere by operating on a membership and seasonal rental basis, ensuring a well-managed and high-quality environment for its patrons.

The facility is designed to provide a vacation-like atmosphere that appeals specifically to local New Jersey residents. Whether you are a "people watcher" looking to relax by the water or an active family eager to dive into recreational sports, the grounds offer a versatile range of activities. The site is characterized by its meticulous upkeep, featuring clear waters, manicured lawns, and a professional staff that prioritizes safety and cleanliness. For many local families, a summer at Lake Kandle is a tradition that spans generations, providing a safe harbor for children to grow, play, and create lifelong memories under the supervision of professional lifeguards.

Location and accessibility are among the primary reasons why Lake Kandle remains a top choice for those in the Delaware Valley. Situated at 250 Chapel Heights Rd, Sewell, NJ 08080, USA, the campground is remarkably easy to reach from various points in the state. It is approximately a 30-minute drive from Philadelphia and about an hour from the Atlantic City shoreline, making it a convenient "home base" for regional exploration. The facility is fully committed to inclusive access, offering wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and a free on-site parking lot. This level of accessibility ensures that every member of the family, regardless of mobility needs, can comfortably navigate the transition from the parking area to the pools and lakefront.

Lake Kandle operates with a professional suite of services designed to make every visit seamless. Because the facility does not offer day passes, the services are tailored to seasonal campers and swim club members, fostering a community of regular visitors who treat the grounds with respect. The park utilizes modern payment systems, accepting debit cards and NFC mobile payments for various camping and guest fees. From supervised swimming to organized picnics, the services are structured to support both spontaneous fun and planned celebrations like birthdays and family reunions.

Services offered at Lake Kandle include:

  • Dedicated RV and motorhome campsite rentals for seasonal or shorter-term stays (no tent camping permitted).
  • Full-service swim club access including supervised swimming in multiple pools and the lake.
  • Professional lifeguard staffing at all aquatic areas to ensure guest safety.
  • Reservable picnic pavilions equipped with charcoal grills for family gatherings and parties.
  • On-site snack bar providing a variety of lunch options and refreshments for purchase.
  • Convenient gated access with staff-managed guest lists for member security.
  • Regular maintenance of 100+ sites featuring 30 and 50-amp electrical hookups.
  • Laundry and shower facilities maintained for cleanliness and resident convenience.

The highlights of Lake Kandle center on its impressive aquatic facilities and traditional summer activities. The property features a 10-acre spring-fed lake that serves as the centerpiece for boating and fishing. For those who prefer treated water, the facility boasts two distinct pools: a massive Olympic-sized pool for serious swimmers and an activity pool perfect for families. The inclusion of high dives and rope swings adds a nostalgic, high-energy element to the swimming experience that is increasingly rare in modern community pools. Beyond the water, the playground and sports courts ensure there is always something to do on dry land.

Features and highlights of the facility include:

  • Two well-maintained swimming pools, including a tropical-themed splash pool and an Olympic-size pool.
  • A 10-acre spring-fed lake with a sandy beach and high diving boards.
  • Canoeing and paddleboat rentals for exploring the tranquil lake waters.
  • Recreational sports facilities including volleyball and wiffle ball fields.
  • Multiple picnic pavilions (Central, Splash, and Lake Grove) designed for private parties.
  • Engaging activities for children, making it a premier spot for local birthday parties.
  • Fishing opportunities in the lake for those seeking a quieter outdoor experience.
  • A peaceful, private environment with a strict "no pets and no alcohol" policy to maintain a family focus.

When deciding what is worth choosing at Lake Kandle, the seasonal membership is the standout option for residents of Gloucester and Camden counties. For families who plan to visit multiple times a week during the summer, the membership provides exceptional value, offering a "vacation in your own backyard." It is particularly worth choosing if you value an orderly and disciplined environment; the management’s commitment to safety rules and their refusal to deal with third parties or day-pass crowds results in a consistently peaceful experience. Choosing a campsite here is a must for RV owners who want a local retreat that feels like a resort, with access to both a lake and a pool system that is arguably among the best in Southern New Jersey.

Furthermore, Lake Kandle is worth choosing for those celebrating milestones. The ability to reserve a pavilion and host a private picnic with a guest list makes it a top-tier venue for graduation parties and children's birthdays. While the park is strictly for RVs and pop-ups—enforcing a "no tent" rule—this ensures that the grounds remain uncluttered and the infrastructure is not overstrained. If you are a New Jersey local looking for a place where you can "relax and chill out" while your kids burn off energy in a safe, fun-filled aquatic park, Lake Kandle offers a factual, professional, and friendly environment that is difficult to beat. Whether you're there for the high dive or a quiet afternoon of canoeing, it’s a destination that truly understands the spirit of a Garden State summer.

Would you like me to look up the current seasonal membership rates or find the specific pool hours for the upcoming summer season?

I was always more of a beach person compared to pools, and never lakes... But lake kandle has really grown on me. My daughter loves it, and it's close by which helps a lot. I even went off the high diving board the other day.

Every summer me and my family had a campsite at Lake Kandle. It was always so much fun and the best part was the high diving board and the rope swing! Definitely a great place for families to visit many fond memories there!
