Ledgedale Recreation Area Introduce

Ledgedale Recreation Area serves as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a serene escape in the heart of the Pocono Mountains. Nestled at the southernmost tip of the majestic Lake Wallenpaupack, this facility offers a unique blend of rugged natural beauty and convenient modern amenities. Whether you are a local Pennsylvania resident looking for a weekend retreat or a traveler exploring the scenic landscapes of Pike County, Ledgedale provides an authentic lakeside experience. The area is well-regarded for its peaceful atmosphere, making it a favored choice for those who prefer the quieter, more natural side of the lake while remaining close to the action of the water.

As a multifaceted recreation site, Ledgedale Recreation Area is more than just a place to pitch a tent. It functions as a comprehensive hub for boating, fishing, and hiking. The surrounding landscape is characterized by dense woodlands and the gentle flow of the Wallenpaupack Creek, which feeds into the larger lake. Visitors often remark on the welcoming community feel of the park, supported by a dedicated staff and a well-stocked camp store that ensures you have everything necessary for a successful outdoor adventure. From the early spring blooms to the vibrant foliage of autumn, the recreation area provides a changing backdrop that rewards visitors throughout the camping season.

Location and accessibility are key components of the Ledgedale experience. The facility is situated at 263 Ledgedale Road in Greentown, PA, making it easily reachable for residents across Northeastern Pennsylvania. For those traveling with larger equipment, the area provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a designated wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that the beauty of the lake is available to everyone. The site is strategically located near major local routes, yet it remains far enough removed from the main highways to maintain a sense of seclusion and tranquility. Because of its position at the southern end of the lake, it offers a distinct advantage for those who enjoy exploring the winding waterways and marshes that are less frequented by large, high-speed powerboats.

When considering which campground to choose on Lake Wallenpaupack, Ledgedale Recreation Area is worth choosing for several distinct reasons. First and foremost is the location. By staying at the southern tip of the lake, you avoid much of the heavy congestion found at the northern end near the dam. This results in a much more relaxing environment for kayaking and canoeing, where you can navigate the calmer waters of the creek without the constant wake of larger vessels. It is a paddler’s paradise that offers a different perspective of the lake's ecosystem.

Furthermore, the value provided by the on-site services is significant. Having a camp store that stocks specialized fishing gear and licenses means you don’t have to leave the park to prepare for a day on the water. The facility's commitment to accessibility and family-friendly amenities ensures that everyone from young children to seniors can enjoy their time safely. For RV owners, the availability of 30-amp hookups and a dump station provides the essential "creature comforts" while still allowing for a true back-to-nature experience. Choosing Ledgedale means choosing a well-maintained, professionally managed site that prioritizes the natural beauty of the Pennsylvania outdoors.

Finally, the historical and natural significance of the area adds an educational layer to your stay. Whether you are exploring the adjacent natural area or taking advantage of the free boat launch for kayakers, you are immersed in one of Pennsylvania's most cherished recreation regions. The combination of helpful service, essential amenities, and unparalleled access to both the lake and the forest makes Ledgedale Recreation Area a standout choice for anyone looking to experience the best of Greentown and the Poconos.

They have a cute store with the nicest staff. They let kayakers use their marina for no charge. A great paddle if you turn left and go up the creek and avoid the big boats and the big water.

Great place to dump the boat in the water for $10. They offer fuel and a small camping store with just the basics. Be careful on the weekends as there is limited parking and half of the nitwits from New York and New Jersey are there attempting to back up a trailer when they have a hard enough time just driving forward.

Love this place! We parked our RV there and docked the boat for a couple of weeks this past summer. Jennifer and Stephanie are so nice and accommodating, as is the whole family at Ledgedale. The camp sites are clean and well kept and the bathrooms are also nicely kept. I have a big 27' boat so a good ramp is important to me. Ledgedale has 2 side by side ramps so there is really never too long of a wait and they are nicely sloped and easy to launch off. The cove the marina sits in is so calm you barely need to tie up your boat! The biggest drawback is the proximity to town as it is located about 20 minutes from the village of Wilsonville, but that may be what some people are looking for! A nice place to visit and great boating on Lake Wally.

Ramp Review:Holiday weekend.Steep decline on access road. Brakes will become very hot if not managed properly.Cramped, steep, cement paved ramp.$10 launch fee...not bad imo.Rig up area cramped. Be ready to go when you get in the line or impatient boaters may "encourage" you to hurry since there is little room to go around.Trailer parking very cramped. I needed assistance to exit parking slot in order to not impact other vehicles. (Full size pickup and 24ft trailer). After rerieve, little room to park for securing gear and prepping for road travel.Employees in the camp store are friendly.Bathrooms are to be avoided.Imagine the largest, most foul portapotti ever, then remove the chemical treatments that control odor. Environmentally necessary setup, but only for the stout of heart and those with head congestion/seasonal allergies😉.All in all, good ramp if you can avoid the busiest weekends launch/retrieve times.

The water was low, today. Possibly drained for the winter. This made this spot even more fun because you can now see and play on the huge boulders that are usually covered by water!! I still saw people in small boats, so I think fishing might still be okay.
