Ironwood Point Recreation Area Introduce
For those of us in Pennsylvania who cherish the rhythmic lap of lake water against the shore and the scent of hemlock in the air, Ironwood Point Recreation Area stands as a premier destination. Located on the southwestern tip of the magnificent Lake Wallenpaupack, this recreation area is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it is a long-standing tradition for many families in the Poconos region. Known for its elevated views and deep-water access, Ironwood Point offers a serene escape that balances the ruggedness of the Pennsylvania wilderness with the comforts sought by modern campers. Whether you are a lifelong resident of Greentown or visiting from the nearby Scranton area, the facility provides an immersive experience in one of the state's most beautiful natural settings.
The campground is managed with a personal touch that is often lost in larger state-run facilities. It is widely recognized for its welcoming atmosphere, often attributed to the dedicated on-site management. Visitors frequently mention the "family-first" philosophy that governs the grounds, ensuring a quiet, respectful, and safe environment for guests of all ages. From the meticulously maintained campsites to the bustling activity at the marina, every aspect of Ironwood Point is designed to highlight the best of Lake Wallenpaupack’s 5,700 acres of recreational potential.
Location and accessibility are two of the strongest suits for Ironwood Point Recreation Area. Situated at 155 Burns Hill Road in Greentown, PA, it is easily reachable for locals and those traveling along the I-84 corridor. The area is characterized by its hilly peninsula geography, which provides many campsites with a distinct vantage point over the water. For those with mobility concerns, the facility offers several accessibility features, including wheelchair-accessible restrooms and parking lots. The layout of the park is intuitive, with clearly marked paths leading from the wooded campsites down to the marina and recreation zones, making it a convenient choice for families with small children or seniors who want to enjoy the lake views without strenuous hiking.

It provides not only the essentials like ice, firewood, and groceries but also a curated selection of lake-themed merchandise and apparel that has become a favorite for visitors looking for high-quality souvenirs. Additionally, the presence of a full-service marina adjacent to the campground means that your transition from land to water is seamless.

What is worth choosing about Ironwood Point Recreation Area is the combination of convenience and authentic lakeside charm. I have been coming to Ironwood Point my entire life. In my opinion it’s in the most beautiful part of the lake, complete with stunning views and perfect sunsets. We keep our boat docked here, and the boat launch is one of the best on the lake. There’s also a gas dock if you need your boat filled up. The camp store is a hidden gem of a place! Some of the best lake merch you’ll find is here. Every time I stop in I seem to find a new t-shirt, sweatshirt or hat that I really can’t live without. They also have thought of so many items that we seem to forget or need often and the convenience can’t be beat. The owners are the kindest people, and they always find the time to say hello. There is ample parking. While I’m personally not a camper, if I were looking to camp anywhere on the lake, this would certainly be the spot. If you haven’t driven down to check it out, you’re missing it!
Absolutely loved staying here I could not get over how beautiful the tent sites were. The views of the lake are great and the sites are well spaced and maintained. The walk in sites aren't far from the parking area and offer the best experience to really feel like you are surrounded by nature. Already planning a second trip before the end of the season highly recommend.
It was a very nice launch with clean bathrooms and looked like a nice campground. We enjoyed a wonderful day of sailing with members of the Paupack sailing club .
I come here to use their boat ramp, and don't charge much. Haven't done any camping, but see plenty of folks that do.
Stayed over 4th of July last summer. (Just getting around to writing review as I have started to plan camping for this summer.). Very nice campground! Owners were very nice and little store on site has anything you need. Lakeside sites very nice, hoping to snag one this year. We had Site 48 which was very convenient for unpacking and going to restrooms, but lakeside sites looked much better.
