Located in the picturesque North Abington Township, this camping area is celebrated for its lush, forested setting and its ability to provide a true sense of seclusion while remaining part of a larger, well-managed recreational network. For Pennsylvania residents, Maples represents one of the premier loops for those who travel with pets, as it is specifically designated as a pet-friendly zone. The atmosphere here is one of quiet appreciation for the natural beauty of Lackawanna County, where the rustle of maple leaves and the occasional sighting of local wildlife create a peaceful backdrop for weekend getaways and extended seasonal stays.

Many of the campsites are positioned near gentle ledges and rolling terrain, providing campers with elevated views of the surrounding woodland and an added layer of natural privacy. This section of the park is particularly favored by families from Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and the surrounding areas because it strikes a perfect balance between rugged nature and essential amenities. Whether you are pitching a tent or setting up a modern RV, the loop offers a sense of being deep in the woods while remaining just a short walk away from the central hubs of activity that make Lackawanna State Park a local favorite.

Located on Lake View Drive within the 1,445-acre Lackawanna State Park, Maples Camping Area is exceptionally easy to reach for Pennsylvania travelers. Its proximity to Interstate 81 (Exit 199) makes it a convenient destination for those coming from both the north and south. Once inside, the roads are well-marked, leading visitors directly to the camping registration area and subsequently to the Maples loop. Accessibility is a key focus of the park, and while some sites offer a more primitive feel, the infrastructure is designed to accommodate various vehicle types and ensures that the natural beauty of the area is accessible to all.

The strategic location of Maples also places campers at the doorstep of the 198-acre Lackawanna Lake. From the camping area, residents have easy access to a variety of multi-use trails that connect the overnight loops to the day-use facilities. The convenience of on-site parking at each campsite, combined with overflow parking areas for visitors, ensures that logistics never interfere with the enjoyment of the park.
