Martha's Vineyard Family Campground Introduce

Martha's Vineyard Family Campground (MVFC) stands as the only campground on the world-renowned island of Martha's Vineyard, making it a truly unique destination for Massachusetts residents and visitors alike. Established in 1972 by the Feeney family, this wooded retreat was born from a dream of providing an accessible and affordable way for families to experience the island’s natural splendor. Nestled in a lush oak forest, the campground offers a rustic, peaceful alternative to the island's high-end hotels, allowing guests to sleep under the stars while remaining just minutes away from the charming villages and pristine beaches that make the Vineyard famous.

The campground is known for its intimate, neighborhood-like atmosphere and its commitment to cleanliness. For over 50 years, it has remained a family-owned and operated facility, a fact that is reflected in the personalized service and meticulously raked campsites. Whether you are a seasoned RVer bringing a 40-foot trailer over on the ferry or a first-time camper looking for a simple tent site, MVFC provides a stable, welcoming environment where you can disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature. The sound of the wind through the oak trees and the occasional sighting of local wildlife, like the island's famous skunks (best admired from a distance!), create a quintessential New England camping experience.

Location and Accessibility are two of the campground's most significant advantages. Situated at 569 Edgartown Road in Vineyard Haven, the park is centrally located, making it an ideal hub for exploring the entire island. Visitors typically arrive via the Steamship Authority ferry from Woods Hole, a process that many find to be a highlight of their trip. From the Vineyard Haven ferry terminal, the campground is only about a mile and a half south, making it reachable by car, bicycle, or even on foot for those traveling light.

For those who prefer not to bring a vehicle, the campground is exceptionally well-connected. A Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) bus stop is located right at the campground entrance, providing easy and affordable transportation to Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and the up-island towns of West Tisbury and Chilmark. Additionally, a paved bike path runs alongside the park, allowing residents to safely cycle to nearby shops, restaurants, and Lagoon Pond. Accessibility is also a priority on-site, with wheelchair-accessible entrances, parking lots, and restrooms available for guests with mobility needs.

Services Offered at Martha's Vineyard Family Campground are designed to provide convenience without stripping away the authentic outdoor feel. The staff is frequently praised for their helpfulness, often assisting with everything from restaurant recommendations to setting up tents during unexpected rainstorms. The on-site camp store is a hub of activity, stocked with essential supplies and souvenirs to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

  • Full-hookup RV sites including water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electrical service.
  • Dedicated tenting areas with mostly shaded, wooded sites and hard-sand ground for stable pitching.
  • Rustic log cabin rentals that include wooden bed frames, foam mattresses, fans, and outdoor propane grills with side burners.
  • On-site camp store providing firewood, ice, basic groceries, camping gear, and local gift items.
  • Modern, indoor restrooms and free hot showers that are consistently rated among the cleanest in the state.
  • Coin-operated laundry facilities to accommodate long-term visitors and active families.
  • Professional on-site management and a resident maintenance team to ensure all hookups and amenities are in working order.
  • A convenient sanitary dump station and recycling center for RV travelers.

Features and Highlights of the campground make it a premier choice for families seeking a well-rounded vacation. While the island itself offers endless entertainment, the campground provides plenty of reasons to stay on-site and enjoy the community atmosphere. During the peak summer season, the park comes alive with organized activities that cater to all ages.

  • A comprehensive playground area featuring slides, swings, and climbing structures for children.
  • Recreational courts including a basketball court, volleyball area, and a large recreational field for soccer or wiffle ball.
  • An indoor recreation room equipped with games and Wi-Fi, perfect for a rainy afternoon or for checking emails.
  • Seasonal peak-season activities such as candy bar bingo, tie-dyeing workshops, movie nights, and live music on weekends.
  • Communal fire pits for evening bonfires, providing a space for guests to gather and share stories of their island adventures.
  • Individual fire rings and picnic tables at every site, with fireplaces designed to hold cooking pots for traditional campfire meals.
  • Adult bike rentals available on-site, allowing guests to explore the island’s expansive network of trails directly from their campsite.
  • Dog-friendly policies during the shoulder seasons (May-June and September-October), welcoming four-legged family members when the island is quieter.

What is worth choosing when it comes to this campground is the unparalleled value it offers for an island vacation. Martha’s Vineyard is often perceived as an exclusive destination, but MVFC makes it accessible to the average family. Choosing this campground means you get to wake up in the heart of the Vineyard's natural beauty, walk across the street to catch a bus to any town on the island, and spend your evenings cooking over an open fire. It is worth choosing for the "small-town" neighborhood feel that is often lost in larger corporate parks.

Furthermore, the park is worth choosing for its historical legacy and family-first philosophy. The fact that many campers return every summer for decades—and that there is a 20-year waiting list for seasonal sites—speaks volumes about the quality of the experience. Whether you are there for the pristine bathrooms, the kid-friendly hikes, or the simple joy of putting your travel trailer on a ferry, Martha's Vineyard Family Campground provides a stable, clean, and joyful base of operations. It is a place where the "tourist of yesteryear" vibe is preserved, ensuring that your family’s memories of the Vineyard are as timeless as the island itself.

What a wonderful Campground, we were only there a few few weeks ago in September so it was off-season and a little on a quiet side, which was fine. Camp store has everything you would need and the super friendly staff is always there to answer questions and point us in the right direction for anything we wanted, including restaurants and tours, etc. this is our first trip to Martha’s Vineyard and putting our 27 foot travel trailer on the ferry was pretty cool. We will definitely be coming back here. Real nice job guys A+

The campsites are amazing and they were raked before we came, the fireplace has a space to put a pot on to boil or cook food, there are lots of skunks scurrying around at night but if you leave them alone and don't make very fast suddenly movement you'll be fine, overall the marthas family campground is an awesome place to go! We loved it and we have a family of five with three girls and the two adults, it was so amazing!

Great place to stay. My wife stayed as a kids for years and we came back. We did the cabin and it was spotless the entire campground was spotless and so well taken care of. The outdoor showers were nice and bike rentals were available by the day. The staff was super friendly and always willing to help. The stones at the sites were nice so it wasn’t just sand. Within minutes to vinyard haven which was nice This place is a hidden gem

Everyone is so friendly. The evening shared campfire tended by Ambassador Bill is a treat. The frequent cleaning of the shared restrooms and showers shows and sparkles. Great place, we (my dog and I) will be back this time next year! BTW, we rented a cabin, but the camper and tent sites are top-notch as well.
