For those in the Ocean State looking for the quintessential summer experience, Second Beach Family Campground stands as a beacon of coastal tranquility and family fun. Located in the picturesque town of Middletown, Rhode Island, this campground is a local treasure that offers more than just a place to park an RV; it offers a front-row seat to the natural majesty of the Atlantic coastline. Known to locals simply as "Second Beach," the adjacent Sachuest Beach is famous for its smooth sand and consistent surf, providing a backdrop that makes every stay feel like a true vacation. Whether you are a lifelong Rhode Islander or a visitor exploring the historic Newport region, this campground provides the perfect balance of rugged outdoor living and convenient access to modern amenities.

The atmosphere at Second Beach Family Campground is one of moderate sociability and peaceful relaxation. It is a place where the sound of the waves serves as a natural soundtrack and the salty breeze keeps the summer heat at bay. The campground is designed with families in mind, fostering a community spirit where children can play safely and neighbors can share stories over evening picnics. Because the facility is managed by the Town of Middletown, there is a distinct sense of pride in its upkeep and a commitment to preserving the "beach-camp" vibe that has made it a favorite for generations of campers. For many, it is the only place in the region where you can wake up, walk across the street, and have your toes in the sand within minutes.

Location and accessibility are among the campground's most significant draws. Fantastic location and Tony was extremely helpful! Would have rated 5 stars but did have a terrible experience with a seasonal camper named Chris and her husband who thinks they own the place. Avoid site 9a as they actually complained because we were barbecuing...at a campground...had to move my grill into the parking lot and burned my hand. They claimed the smoke was billowing into their state of the art trailer and their child was going to have an asthma attack...my 26 year old RV that had the grill Just a couple of feet away it did not fill up with smoke and my window was open...lnowing his story was bull I moved it anyway to avoid confrontation and not once did the husband offer to help as he watched me try to carry a hot burning grill which caused a burn on my hand...they ruined my dinner and my vacation and I was left with a bad taste in my mouth, not the delicious barbecued chicken which was the plan...would go back but only if not near them. We tried to be kind and courteous campers our whole stay. They should not be allowed to treat paying customers this way and I'm willing to bet I'm not the first person who's had a bad experience with them.
