Merry Meadows Recreation Farm Introduce

Merry Meadows Recreation Farm is a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts and families across the Maryland region. Situated on 275 acres of picturesque rolling countryside in northern Baltimore County, this park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational variety. The farm is geographically diverse, featuring three distinct levels that range from open fields to heavily forested terrain. This tiered landscape provides a rich habitat for local wildlife, rare bird species, and a wide array of native plant life, making it a favorite spot for nature lovers who want to escape the urban sprawl of the Baltimore-Washington corridor.

For over five decades, Merry Meadows has served as a community hub where folks of all ages can explore the refreshing outdoors. The park’s philosophy centers on providing an environment where guests can "become one with nature" while still enjoying a massive variety of amenities. Whether you are looking for a weekend of peaceful reflection among natural springs or a high-energy vacation filled with sports and games, the facility is designed to accommodate various camping styles and preferences. Its long-standing presence in Freeland has made it a nostalgic landmark for many Maryland families who return year after year to create new memories.

The location of Merry Meadows Recreation Farm is one of its most significant draws for Maryland residents. Located at 1523 Freeland Road in Freeland, MD 21053, it is conveniently positioned near the Pennsylvania border, making it easily accessible via Interstate 83. For travelers coming from Baltimore, the drive is approximately 45 minutes, while those arriving from the York, PA area can reach the park in less than half an hour. This strategic location allows campers to enjoy a secluded, rural atmosphere without a grueling travel time.

Accessibility is a priority at the farm, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the facilities. The park features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and accessible restroom facilities throughout the grounds. On-site parking is plentiful and organized to handle everything from standard passenger vehicles to large RV rigs. Once on the property, the well-marked roads and paths help visitors navigate the different levels of the park, though the hilly nature of northern Baltimore County should be noted by those with limited mobility. The proximity to the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail (NCR Trail) also offers additional flat, accessible terrain for those looking to venture just outside the park boundaries.

Merry Meadows Recreation Farm offers a comprehensive suite of services designed to make your camping experience as convenient as possible. The park focuses on "onsite services" so that guests don't have to leave the grounds for their basic needs. The services include:

  • Full RV camping accommodations with 30-amp and 50-amp electric hookups.
  • On-site firewood delivery to your specific campsite for evening fires.

  • Gated entrance for added security and peace of mind during your stay.
  • A variety of payment options including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments for all fees and store purchases.

The recreation options at Merry Meadows are extensive, reflecting its name as a "Recreation Farm." The park is packed with features that cater specifically to families and children, ensuring there is never a dull moment. Highlights and features include:

When considering which Maryland campground to choose, Merry Meadows Recreation Farm is worth selecting for its sheer variety of on-site activities. It is rare to find a park that manages to combine traditional "back to basics" nature exploration with modern amenities like a driving range and a swimming pool. For families with children, the park is an excellent choice because of the dedicated kid-friendly infrastructure—from the "Hub" activity center to the gentle hiking trails that allow even the smallest explorers to experience the Little Falls Valley safely.

Furthermore, the value of the "seasonal community" at Merry Meadows cannot be overstated. With 300 sites and a history spanning over 50 years, the park has a lived-in, welcoming feel where neighbors often become friends. While the hilly terrain and natural setting require a bit of ruggedness, the commitment to modern conveniences like 50-amp hookups and NFC payments makes it a practical choice for modern RVers. If you are looking for a place where you can smell the faint scent of spices from the nearby McCormick factory on a breeze while sitting by a campfire, Merry Meadows offers an authentic Maryland experience that is truly one-of-a-kind. It is a destination that prioritizes family bonding, outdoor education, and the simple joy of a weekend spent under the trees.

This was my first visit to Merry Meadows and I can only say that it was OK. I was hoping to have a relaxing weekend, and to watch some football. On Friday night after checking in, I found it impossible to be able to sign into their "Free Wifi". We called the office and was told that they would put in service call. During the next day, my wife stopped in the office and again and inquired and said again that they would have someone stop by the site. They said that we should be able to watch TV.Later, a gentleman stopped by to look at the problem. He originally said after checking his phone that the site is showing 4-5 bars. He then checked the box and said that the tower box was turned off. He turned it on and we then had service. Now, we never opened that tower box so I think that when a camper checks out, if staff stops by the site to clean out the firepit, it should be routine that they also check the tower box. Easy fix. Also, we had site PH5. A nice site located by the playground and other activity areas. If we ever come back, I will never stay at PH5 again. If you dump your black tank, it travels out the hose but the pipe to the septic is about 15-18 inches high so needless to say, the contents won't go the whole was to the tank. Cut the pipe down. And now that I'm trying to clean up to leave, all of my nearby campers and I are losing water. The place has potential but I doubt that I will return.

If Zero Stars was an option, that would be my rating.Stayed for 3 days with another family and this was our experience that has made us never want to return and warn others not to even check it out.Site C-3 had a sewer drain failure of massive proportions. A clogged drain sent a piss-n-poop fountain two feet into the air and flooded the site. A waterfall of human waste poured down the hillside into site C-4 and beyond. The sight and smell were what you can imagine, absolutely horrible.Management was contacted immediately but no one arrived on scene for 30 mins. Meanwhile the sewage continued to flow.We were allowed to move sites, so nice not to have to remain in a field of used toilet paper and poop, but no other discount provided for time lost of my vacation or the hardship endured. When we left the next day (24 hours later) the mess was still there, untouched by the team at Merry Meadows. Hopefully no one was seriously made ill by the possible contact of unknown pathogens distributed on the sites. It is unheard of in a consumer business, not to try and appease the customer. Especially one that had to deal with this crap!

We were a little reluctant to try Merry Meadows after hearing some negative reviews. However, most were about strict rule enforcement and we don't mind some rules. That being said, we didn't experience any issues with rules. Everyone was pleasant and the common areas were well-maintained.Our issue was when half way through our stay the sewer at our site turned into a volcano flooding our site with sewage. We weren't dumping at the time, so this was 100% a campground issue. The picture attached isn't mud....all sewage with chunks of toilet paper. We had to sanitize everything, pack up and move to a new site. This sewage explosion also ran into our neighbors campsite destroying their site as well. We understand that things happen, but they were completely uninterested in offering up any significant compensation. They best they would offer was 15% off one night stay in the future which amounts to about $12. No thank you. $12 isn't worth the 3 hours of completely repulsive disruption of our mini-vacation for both us and our friends that were camping with us.We are super disappointed because the driving range was a big plus for our family. However, we can't continue to support a business that doesn't care about its customers.

This is a well kept campsite, 300 acres with every campsite imaginable. Wooded, scenic views, cabins etc. In the summer this place will be hopping, with a swimming pool, playground, outside cinema screen, pickle ball and many more activities. All prices within the campground are reasonable. Mini golf $3. The bath house has small stalls not handicap friendly. It is on the expensive side . It is very family orientated.

I did not experience any “Mean or bad service” at all. The ladies were super friendly to us.Some amenities were closed, yes. But did not disturb our stay at the campground.Seems to need a couple things to be improved but overall, I liked the campground.WiFi, definitely never worked for us and reception is bad. Which is common at all campgrounds.I was looking for a calm, relaxing, peaceful and quiet place. Yes, I found it here.My family and I enjoyed the stay and will definitely be back.People will always be negative about anything or everything.Enjoy life, we all just have one.
