With its namesake 45-acre lake serving as the centerpiece, the resort has become a beloved tradition for generations of campers who appreciate well-maintained grounds and a vibrant community spirit.
Panther Lake is designed to be more than just a place to sleep; it is a comprehensive vacation experience. The resort successfully bridges the gap between traditional "roughing it" and resort-style living. Guests often comment on the friendly, professional staff and the immaculate condition of the facilities. For those of us in the New Jersey area, having such a high-caliber outdoor retreat just a short drive from the state's major suburban hubs is a significant advantage. The park operates seasonally, usually from mid-April through Halloween, ensuring that visitors can experience the full beauty of the New Jersey seasons, from the fresh blooms of spring to the stunning foliage of autumn.
The location of Panther Lake Camping Resort is one of its greatest assets. Situated at 6 Panther Lake Campground Rd in Byram Township, NJ 07821, it is conveniently located just 50 miles from New York City and is easily accessible for residents across Northern and Central Jersey. Its proximity to major thoroughfares makes it a stress-free trip for those towing large RVs. Despite its accessibility, the resort feels worlds away from the urban bustle, tucked into the tranquil landscapes typical of the Skylands Region. This makes it an ideal spot for a weekend warrior getaway or a more extended summer residency.
Accessibility is a priority at Panther Lake, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The resort features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom facilities. The grounds are thoughtfully laid out with paved roads that are perfect for a leisurely bike ride or a steady walk. For those who enjoy exploring beyond the campsite, the surrounding area is rich with history and nature, offering a gateway to the broader attractions of Sussex County while maintaining a secure, gated environment that prioritizes the well-being of its guests.

When deciding on an outdoor destination in New Jersey, Panther Lake Camping Resort is worth choosing because it offers a rare balance of high-end resort amenities and authentic natural beauty. Many locals choose this spot because of its strict adherence to quality and safety—such as the "no visitors" rule during peak times—which ensures that the facilities never become overcrowded and the atmosphere remains peaceful for paid guests. This commitment to the guest experience is reflected in the clean facilities and the attentive nature of the staff.
Furthermore, the variety of accommodation options makes it a versatile choice for any group. If you are an RV enthusiast, the level of hookup service is top-tier. If you are new to camping, the "rustic" or "deluxe" cabins allow you to enjoy the outdoors with a roof over your head and a comfortable bed. The inclusion of pet-friendly cabins is a significant plus for New Jersey pet owners who don't want to leave their dogs behind. Ultimately, choosing Panther Lake means choosing a place where the lake is always beautiful, the activities are endless, and the memories made are lasting. It is a location that understands the local New Jersey lifestyle and provides a high-quality, family-oriented environment that keeps people coming back year after year.

Panther Lake Camping Resort is truly a gem for anyone who enjoys the outdoors but still appreciates comfort and convenience. The grounds are well-maintained, with plenty of space for both RVs and tents, and the sites feel private while still being part of a friendly community atmosphere. The lake itself is beautiful—perfect for swimming, kayaking, or just sitting back and relaxing with a view. The amenities are top-notch for a campground, with clean restrooms, well-kept showers, and plenty of recreational options like mini golf, a pool, and organized activities for families. What really sets Panther Lake apart is how family-friendly it is. Kids have endless things to do, and adults can either join in the fun or simply enjoy some peace and quiet by the water. The staff is welcoming and attentive, making sure everyone has a good experience. If you’re looking for a balance between rustic camping and resort-style comfort, Panther Lake delivers in every way. It’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately start planning your next trip back.
Friendly staff, clean facilities, and many activities for kids and adults. Check-in was easy. The lake is beautiful and most sites are tree-covered and private. Pets are allowed in the cabins (a huge plus). We stayed in a rustic cabin and it was perfect, with an individual water spigot (no sharing!). The store is well stocked (ice cream and coffee were a bonus!). Crowds make me uncomfortable, so I actually appreciate the no visitors rule. Some cabins are very close together and between RVs (I'm glad ours wasn't). Our favorite campground closed down last year but we’ve found our new yearly family campground!
I went with family. 4 adults 1 child. We loved it for the get go. The ladies at the camp store were always happy AND happy to help. Whenever i walked in they were helping someone cracking jokes, listening being patient or whatever was needed by the customer. The cabin was amazing, well kept ( found some spider webs), but otherwise clean and cozy. The beds were hard but not uncomfortable. My brother in law suffers from back pain and slept comfortably. The other campers were sweet adding to the atmosphere a sense of community. It was peaceful. My daughter made many friends.Sadly im horrible with names so did not get the ladies from the camp store but two gentlemen came to my rescue. George or (Jorge) and Danny. I dropped some things in the slit of the porch. I stopped one of the workers (Jorge) and he told me he'd return and he did and brought a friend (Danny). Jorge went under the porch and Danny cracked the jokes.Overall a great vibe and an awesome experience.Budget wise not horrible about $200 a weekend per adult ( four of us) The theme was christmas in july so that was fun, the pool, the lake (beach) so much to see and explore!Hope to be back next year! The only downside is that instead of a deposit its 100% payment upfront at time of reservation. Which wont be reunded at all after a cut off date. Which can be off putting specially if youve never been before. But again, glad we went with it.
This is a lovely campground and it is always well maintained with the grass usually cut fairly well. Every worker I’ve interacted with has been a kindred soul. The workers at the gate are incredible and they’re always ready to get people with reservations inside. I have yet to have a bad experience and not only are workers but people in general are very nice there. Would recommend.
Never again! We booked here to spend the weekend relaxing with our teenage kids and fish all weekend. Campground tried to charge us $30 per kayak to use the lake. This fee was never mentioned on phone, in confirmation email or in paperwork. We did not budget that expense so we could not utilize lake and my kids were bummed. The campground is filled with long term campers and the fields were used as parking lots due to so many guests. There is a large group of teenagers that walk around all day and night that curse and make comments to campers. My kids did not want to use amenities due to this. Our campsite was next to an old moldy, run down camper and on the other side parked cars. We listened to dogs bark and yelp all day and night. We left early and did not complete our stay. Do not recommend.
