Nestled in the rolling foothills near Newton, this destination has evolved into one of the most beloved family-owned campgrounds in the region. Spanning 100 acres of lush fields and dense forests, the park provides a perfect balance of rustic charm and modern convenience. It is a place where traditions are born, whether you are a first-time camper or a seasoned traveler who views the outdoors as a second home. The Great Divide is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it is a full-service resort designed to cater to various styles of outdoor living. From the "kinda-camping" crowd who prefer cozy cabin trailers with air conditioning and kitchens to the "unplugged" enthusiasts seeking primitive sites under the stars, the layout accommodates everyone. Locals from across the Garden State frequently return for the themed weekends and live entertainment, making it a social hub where families from different towns connect over shared campfires and summer festivities.

The entrance features a monitored security gate for peace of mind, and the internal roads lead to a variety of wooded and open sites. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, the facility provides wheelchair-accessible restrooms and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that the beauty of the Sussex County wilderness is available to all guests regardless of mobility needs.

What is worth choosing about The Great Divide Campground is the palpable sense of community that the Torella family and their staff have fostered. In an era where many campgrounds are becoming corporate-owned and impersonal, this location stands out for its heart. Choosing this campground means you are investing in an experience where the owners are often on-site, ensuring the grounds are spotless and the activities are engaging. The mix of seasonal residents and weekend travelers creates a friendly, safe neighborhood feel that is particularly reassuring for parents with young children.

The "Kind-to-Camping" philosophy is another reason to choose this park. If you have family members who are hesitant about sleeping on the ground, the high-quality trailer rentals provide a "glamping" bridge that allows everyone to enjoy the forest without sacrificing comfort. Furthermore, the commitment to the "little things"—like ice and firewood delivery directly to your site—allows you to spend more time relaxing and less time running errands. Whether you are there to hike the rugged trails of Sussex County or simply want to float in a heated Olympic-sized pool while a live band plays in the background, The Great Divide delivers an authentic, top-tier New Jersey camping experience that truly lives up to its name.

My friends and I have been coming to The Great Divide for almost 15 years, and it’s still one of our favorite places. The staff is always welcoming, the campground is super clean, and they always have fun activities going on. We’ve made so many great memories here over the years—it honestly feels like a second home. Can’t wait to come back again!

What a fantastic campground! The views are amazing. Everything is meticulously maintained. Loved driving around the camprground to see those views. There's lots of camping spots, but the way the campground is laid out you feel like you are only with a few folks. It's hard to find words to describe the awesomeness that is The Great Divide. We came for a Grateful Dead weekend, the band (This Old Engine) was outstanding. A great group of talented musicians. The sound system & light show were fabulous. During the daytime there were activities for everyone young & old. Our grandkids stopped in for a few hours and enjoyed the scavenger hunt and the tie dye shirt activities. There is SO much to do if you want, or just chill out and enjoy the super relaxed vibe. The staff is friendly and helpful, buildings are cute & well maintained, and the grounds are fabulous. We will be back for many more visits. I cannot say enough good things about The Great Divide, Carmine & his crew are hospitable and go above and beyond to make this campground a cut above the rest!

We had such a great time at The Great Divide Campground! There was so much for the kids to do—constant activities, games, and entertainment that kept them busy and happy the whole trip. The bathrooms were clean. The staff were super friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. You can really tell they care about making it a great experience for everyone. Highly recommend for families looking for a fun and relaxing camping trip!

I'm almost hesitant to write a review of Great Divide because it was such an amazing and magical experience there that I selfishly want to keep it to myself. But that'd be doing this wonderful campground such a huge disservice, so I've got to rave about it.After reading about the place online, I talked a bunch of family/friends into going on "Dead Fish Weekend", since that matched our musical sensibilities. All weekend long, I described this place as the perfect campground for people that used to see a lot of live music but have since had families and need something equally entertaining for their kids.I can't think of anywhere else I've brought my kids that had put this much thought into both parents and kids having such a great time. My friends loved the music and the overall vibes of the place. My kids loved all the activities and some of the most creative arts and crafts I've ever seen. We immediately booked two more weekends and are considering a third. Also: we stayed in a covered wagon (with air conditioning! And a fridge!) which was icing on the cake. I love everything about this place!
