Park Mountain Campground Introduce

For New Yorkers who find their peace among the towering pines and crystal-clear waters of the North Country, Park Mountain Campground serves as a vital gateway to the true Adirondack experience. Located in the quiet hamlet of Adirondack, New York, this campground offers a retreat that is both secluded and strategically positioned. It is a destination designed for the "insider" traveler—the local New Yorker who knows that the best parts of the Adirondack Park are often found just off the beaten path, away from the heavier crowds of Lake George but within reach of its vast recreational opportunities. Whether you are looking for a weekend tent site or a seasonal base for your summer boating adventures, this campground provides a well-maintained, welcoming environment that honors the rugged spirit of the mountains.

The atmosphere at Park Mountain is characterized by its family-owned charm and its connection to the surrounding wilderness. For many local residents, the Adirondacks are a lifelong passion, and finding a consistent, reliable place to stay can be a challenge. Park Mountain Campground addresses this by offering a "home away from home" vibe where the owners are attentive and the grounds are kept in pristine condition. The recent addition of modern bathroom facilities and freshly mowed, spacious sites demonstrates a commitment to quality that ensures guests can focus on what matters most: exploring the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness, spending days on Schroon Lake, and gathering around the fire pit as the mountain air cools in the evening.

Located at 500 Johnson Rd, Adirondack, NY 12808, the campground is exceptionally well-situated for ease of travel. For those coming from the Capital District or downstate, it is a straightforward journey up the Adirondack Northway (I-87). The park is located approximately ten minutes from the Pottersville exit, minimizing travel time on winding backroads while still providing that essential sense of deep-woods isolation. This accessibility makes it a premier choice for those who want to maximize their outdoor time and minimize their transit time.

Once you have arrived, the campground’s position offers unparalleled access to some of the region's best water and trail systems. It is within walking distance—or a very short drive—to the eastern shores of Schroon Lake, providing immediate opportunities for swimming and boating. Furthermore, the property is a "hop, skip, and a jump" from the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness area, a massive expanse of protected land that offers some of the most serene hiking and backcountry experiences in the state. Its proximity to the historic Adirondack General Store also ensures that guests can walk for their morning coffee or supplies, adding a layer of convenience rarely found in wilderness camping.

Park Mountain Campground offers a range of services designed to support both traditional campers and those who prefer the comforts of an RV. The management focuses on providing a clean, functional, and friendly service environment. Key services include:

  • Full-service RV sites featuring reliable water and 30/50-amp electrical hookups for modern convenience.
  • Dedicated tent camping areas that provide a more rustic and authentic connection to the Adirondack forest.
  • Newly renovated public restrooms and shower facilities, frequently cited by guests for their cleanliness and modern fixtures.
  • Seasonal camping passes, which allow regular visitors to leave their equipment on-site and use the park as a permanent summer base.
  • On-site dumping station facilities for RV maintenance and ease of departure.
  • Optional winter storage services (available for a fee) for those who wish to keep their boats or trailers near the lake year-round.
  • Attentive on-site management provided by owners who are available to assist with site selection and local navigation.
  • A dog-friendly policy that welcomes well-behaved pets, making it a true family destination.

The highlights of a stay at Park Mountain Campground are rooted in its location and the thoughtful layout of the grounds. The facility is designed to enhance the natural beauty of the area rather than compete with it. Notable highlights include:

  • Direct proximity to Schroon Lake: Perfect for those who enjoy motorboating, kayaking, or spending a day at the town beach.
  • Hiking Trail Access: The campground serves as an ideal starting point for exploring the trails within the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness and the Hoffman Notch area.
  • Spacious, Grassy Sites: Unlike many crowded parks, the sites here are well-maintained, offering plenty of room for picnic tables, fire pits, and large get-togethers.
  • Kid-Friendly Environment: The open spaces and safe, quiet atmosphere make it an excellent choice for families with children.
  • The Adirondack General Store: Located nearby, this landmark offers a unique collection of local crafts, syrups, and a full deli for easy meal planning.
  • Central Base Operations: Within a 10-15 minute drive, guests can reach Lake George, Brant Lake, and Paradox Lake, offering endless variety for daily excursions.
  • Clean and Modern Amenities: The emphasis on "new" bathrooms and manicured grounds ensures a comfortable stay for those who are less inclined toward "roughing it" entirely.

To plan your next Adirondack getaway or to inquire about seasonal site availability, the staff at Park Mountain Campground can be reached through their local office. Providing a personal touch is part of the experience, so feel free to call with questions regarding specific site sizes or local trail conditions:

  • Address: 500 Johnson Rd, Adirondack, NY 12808, USA

What is worth choosing at Park Mountain Campground is the exceptional balance between convenience and wilderness immersion. In a region as vast as the Adirondacks, it is easy to find yourself either too far from services or too close to the noise of a tourist town. This campground hits the "sweet spot" of being right next to Schroon Lake and the Adirondack General Store while still feeling like a private mountain retreat. It is especially worth choosing for boat owners and frequent visitors who can take advantage of the seasonal passes, effectively turning a simple campsite into a recurring summer sanctuary.

Furthermore, the value of the "local" experience cannot be overstated. By staying here, you are not just a tourist in a corporate park; you are a guest in a community. The ability to walk to a local store, hike directly into a wilderness area, and return to a freshly mowed site with modern facilities is a rare combination. For New Yorkers who want to spend their summers swimming in Brant Lake, fishing in Schroon, or conquering the peaks of the High Peaks region (which is also within driving distance), Park Mountain Campground offers the reliability and location necessary for an unforgettable season. It is a place built for those who truly love the Adirondacks and want a home base that reflects that same passion.

My son and I just spent two days exploring the Pharoah Lake Wilderness area and stayed at the Park Mountain Campground. It was a great experience. The Campground was well maintained and freshly mowed. The owners were friendly and attentive, We enjoyed the new bathrooms too! The location is amazing;: walking distance (or a very short drive) to Schroon Lake, the Adirondack General store and walking trails. Will definitely go again!!

The Adirondacks are my favorite area in the entire state of New York. As soon as the snow melts, I'm in the mountains or on the lakes. I spend so much time there, but it was difficult finding a consistent place to stay.Enter Park Mountain Campground. This has been a lifesaver for me. It's about a ten minute drive from the Pottersville exit on the Northway, but from there I was able to go everywhere. Schroon Lake is right next to the site! Lake George, Brant Lake, and Paradox Lake are close too, all within 10-15 minutes. The best part is, since the campground is a season ticket, I was able to leave my boat there and use it as my base of operations during the summer. We would take day trips to one of the lakes, and come back to the site to use the fire pits, picnic tables, and camping area to have great get togethers. If you're a fan of Adirondacks, and like to spend time there, I can't recommend using Park Mountain Campground enough.

I've stayed at this campground a few times in the last decade with friends. Its nice and quiet, great spot to admire the nature around you. Fondest memories include making smores and telling stories around the campfire.

I reserved a site at this campground, never got a confirmation email or anything. Tried to email and called them a few times with no answer or call back ever. We showed up and no one was there, there was no sign or anything to indicate where to check in or any sort of office. It was unclear where the campground actually was. We luckily found another campground nearby to stay at.
