Peaceful Valley Campsite Introduce
For New Yorkers looking to trade the relentless hum of the city for the rhythmic sounds of the East Branch of the Delaware River, Peaceful Valley Campsite offers an expansive sanctuary. Spanning over 500 acres in the Western Catskills, this family-owned destination has been a staple for outdoor enthusiasts since it was established by Arnold and Walburga Banker in 1968. Today, it continues to be operated with a commitment to providing a rustic, uncommercialized experience where the primary focus is on the beauty of the natural landscape. Whether you are pitching a tent on one of the unique island sites or bringing a large motorhome with full hookups, the vastness of the property ensures that every visitor can find their own "peaceful valley" to call home for a few days.
The spirit of Peaceful Valley is defined by its "un-commercial" feel. It is a place specifically designed for families who want to disconnect from the digital world—cell service is often minimal, encouraging guests to leave their phones aside and reconnect with each other over a campfire. The campground features a mix of sunny, open fields and shaded, secluded zones tucked under tall pines. Because it is a large estate that has been maintained by the same family for over 40 years, it possesses a nostalgic charm that reminds visitors of what camping used to be: a simple, honest interaction with the mountains, the river, and the wildlife of the Catskills. It is an ideal spot for those who appreciate seeing eagles overhead and deer grazing at dawn.
Location and Accessibility are key advantages for regional travelers. Peaceful Valley Campsite is situated at 485 Banker Rd, Downsville, NY 13755, USA. For those traveling from the New York City metro area, the drive is approximately two and a half to three hours, making it a feasible weekend getaway. It is conveniently located about 53 minutes from Binghamton and roughly an hour and a half from Kingston. The site provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot to ensure that the grounds are navigable for all guests. When navigating to the site with a trailer, local veterans recommend using Route 30 (Exit 90) rather than the steep mountain pass of Exit 92 to avoid challenging inclines. On-site parking is plentiful, and the internal roads are designed to accommodate large RV units up to 40 feet in length.
Services Offered at Peaceful Valley Campsite cover the spectrum from basic survivalist needs to modern RV conveniences. The campground is well-equipped to handle individual families as well as large organized groups and clubs. The services include:
- RV Camping Accommodations: Sites featuring both water and 30/50-amp electrical hookups for seasonal and short-term visitors.
- Onsite Services: Professional check-in assistance and a complete camping store stocked with wood, ice, ice cream, beverages, and T-shirts.

What is worth choosing at Peaceful Valley is the opportunity to stay in a "Deer Den" or one of the riverside cabins if you are looking for comfort, or the island tent sites for a truly adventurous experience. The campground is particularly worth choosing for those who want a "digital detox"; the lack of internet signal in certain areas forces a transition from screens to scenery that many city-dwellers find incredibly restorative. Choosing this site also means supporting a multi-generational family business that has resisted the urge to modernize the "nature" out of the experience. It is a place for the realist who understands that a true mountain retreat includes insects and early mornings, but offers in return the chance to see the Milky Way clearly from your own fire ring. Whether you are there for the legendary trout fishing or just to watch the mist roll off the Delaware, Peaceful Valley delivers an authentic Catskills memory every time.

We rented a Dear Den. Was nice to be there. Really recomend it. Reason for 4 stars only is because the pool is not open. No signal area to have a break from internet. Remember you going to spend time at nature don't expect everything shinning clean. And insects are going to be every where. My husband said that a women screamed at them for driving on the grass when going for the fire wood.IN SOME AREAS YOU CAN NOT DRIVE OVER THE GRASS. The woman that checked me in was nice.
My family and I really enjoy Peaceful Valley. It’s ideal for those looking to escape the busy city and disconnect. It’s perfect for families to reconnect, leave their cellphones aside and enjoy the beautiful nature. We stayed in tents with access to water and electricity. Showers and bathrooms were only a short drive to the main area, 5 minutes from our site. The bathrooms were kept clean. They also have a pool, the area was also clean. We have been visiting for quite a few years and seen the improvements the family made to the site.
Website lies:“clean restrooms with hot showers” - nope“picnic tables and fire rings” - at some sites, not all“no organization too large for us to handle!”- you should never use Venmo here. They frequently have no record of it and refuse to refund. To protect yourself, you must print a form and mail your credit card number. No guarantee they’ll keep your reservation, but you’ll have a way to contest the charge if they don’t.- the cabin rental prices on the web site are not actually the rental prices during special events or other times set by whim and you won’t know until you check in and are forced to pay double- Special events do not have enough bathroom capacity. Extra portajohns overflowed in Sept 2025- it’s unclear if the Banker family that runs this place is incompetent or dishonest. I think perhaps both.Bottom line: this place seems set up for campers that park their RV here year round. The facilities and service provided to transients is horrible
Avoid this place like the plague! Owner is extremely rude, very confrontational, he could care less about his paying customers since he makes enough $ from his seasonals. Public bathrooms and pool are disgusting when functioning. Prices have close to doubled in the past few years. Owner will overcharge unsuspected guests as well! Horrible businessman, horrible human being! 🤬
We had a great time during 4th of July weekend. I will want to return again someday. It was awesome camping right next to the river and swimming in the river a few times.
