Butternut Grove Campsite Introduce

For New Yorkers looking to trade the city skyline for the rolling peaks of the Catskills, Butternut Grove Campsite offers a quintessential mountain escape. Located in Roscoe, New York—famously known as "Trout Town, USA"—this privately owned campground is a sanctuary for those who appreciate the outdoors. Situated directly on a quarter-mile stretch of the world-renowned Beaverkill River, Butternut Grove is much more than a place to pitch a tent; it is a community hub for fly fishers, nature lovers, and families seeking to reconnect with the natural world. The resort strikes a perfect balance between rustic charm and modern convenience, providing a quiet, wooded setting where the only "noise" is the gentle rush of the river against the banks.

The spirit of the campground is defined by its friendly and attentive ownership. Recently updated and meticulously maintained, the property has garnered a reputation for its pristine facilities and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are an experienced angler looking for the perfect trout or a family wanting a safe place for children to play, the site offers an environment that feels both professional and personal. With its lush tree canopy and well-spaced sites, Butternut Grove provides the privacy and peace that many state-run parks lack, all while keeping you within a short drive of the local breweries, diners, and shops that make the town of Roscoe a favorite Catskill destination.

Location and Accessibility are primary highlights for Butternut Grove Campsite. Located at 18420 County Rd 17, Roscoe, NY 12776, the campground is easily accessible for travelers coming from the New York City metropolitan area or the Southern Tier. Its position along County Road 17 makes it a straightforward drive from Route 17 (the Quickway), which is the main artery through the Catskills. For those navigating with larger rigs, the wide access roads and clear signage make the approach stress-free.

The management at Butternut Grove has prioritized inclusivity to ensure all guests can enjoy the beauty of the Beaverkill River. The facility features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lot, which are crucial for a smooth check-in process. Furthermore, the campground boasts wheelchair-accessible restrooms that have been recently renovated to meet modern standards. These facilities are frequently praised by guests for being among the cleanest and most well-designed in the region. The relatively flat terrain of the riverside sites also aids in mobility, allowing everyone to get close to the water's edge and enjoy the scenic views of the valley.

Services Offered at Butternut Grove Campsite cater to a variety of camping styles, ensuring that both traditionalists and "glampers" have a successful stay. The owners provide several on-site services to make your trip more convenient, including:

  • RV Camping with full water and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp available).
  • Dedicated waterfront tent sites, some featuring custom-built wooden decks for elevated camping.
  • On-site delivery of high-quality firewood and ice directly to your campsite.
  • Clean, heated bathhouses with hot showers that are regularly sanitized.
  • A convenient on-site laundry facility for long-term travelers.
  • Propane gas sales and a dump station for RV maintenance.
  • Rental options for kayaks and tubes for those looking to explore the river.
  • High-speed Wi-Fi access throughout the park, allowing for remote work or easy navigation.
  • Handmade fly sales for anglers looking for the right local patterns.

Features and Highlights of the campground make it a versatile destination for recreational enthusiasts of all ages. While the river is the star attraction, the grounds offer plenty of other ways to enjoy your time in Roscoe:

  • Quarter-mile river frontage on the Beaverkill River, perfect for world-class fly fishing and wading.
  • A dedicated playground for children, making it a highly recommended spot for families.
  • Spacious picnic areas and individual fire rings at every site for evening bonfires.
  • Pet-friendly policies that allow dogs on the property, so the whole family can join the trip.
  • A seasonal swimming hole in the river for cooling off on warm Catskill afternoons.
  • Proximity to the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum and local craft beverage spots like Roscoe Beer Company.
  • Easy online booking and check-in systems to streamline your arrival.

For those ready to plan their next trip to Trout Town, the Contact Information for the campground is easily accessible. You can reach the main office by phone at (607) 498-4224. For mobile users or those on the road, the contact remains +1 607-498-4224. The physical address for your GPS is 18420 County Rd 17, Roscoe, NY 12776, USA. Given the campground's popularity during the peak trout season (April through October), it is highly recommended to make your reservations well in advance, especially for the coveted waterfront sites.

What is worth choosing at Butternut Grove depends on your personal goals for the trip. If you are an angler, the waterfront tent sites are worth choosing above all else. These sites allow you to wake up and literally walk into the river to start your day of fishing. For those traveling with a family, the sites near the playground are worth choosing as they offer a safe, central location with easy access to both the activities and the new bathhouse facilities. If you prefer a bit of luxury with your nature, the sites with wooden decks provide a clean, level surface for your tent and gear, keeping you above the damp ground.

Furthermore, Butternut Grove is worth choosing for the sheer quality of its amenities. While many campgrounds provide the basics, the cleanliness of the restrooms and the kindness of the owners set this location apart from others in the Delaware County area. It is an ideal "home base" for exploring the Catskills, offering a professional level of service while maintaining the authentic, small-town charm that Roscoe is known for. Whether you are there to land a trophy trout or simply to enjoy a quiet picnic by the water, Butternut Grove Campsite delivers a high-value, memorable New York outdoor experience.

My husband and I stayed at Butternut Grove last weekend for the first time, and we were absolutely blown away. We reserved a tent spot right along the river with a deck included. Check in was easy, we did it online. The owner was so kind, and delivered us ice and wood right to our site. The view, the fishing, everything was amazing. Don't even get me started on the bathrooms!!! Easily the cleanest, newest bathrooms I have ever used while camping. We will be back every chance that we get!

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of camping at Butternut Grove season after season is the sense of community that flourishes among the guests. Regulars became friends, then family, united not only by shared space but by shared purpose: to celebrate the outdoors and nurture connections both with the land and with each other. We trade recipes, lend tools, watch each other’s pets, and celebrate milestones together. Birthdays, anniversaries, these occasions became communal affairs, marked by laughter and the clink of glasses around a blazing fire. The friendships formed around communal fire pits, the shared laughter during festive gatherings, and the gentle encouragement of neighbors all contribute to a unique, welcoming atmosphere. Children find playmates within minutes, and parents find support and companionship among fellow campers.Paul and Bridget cultivate this sense of unity deliberately, encouraging guests to participate in group activities while also respecting the need for quiet reflection. Their openness and warmth transform strangers into friends and families into a community.Their dedication is not just professional—it is personal. Paul and Bridget treat each visitor as a friend, remembering names and stories, celebrating milestones, and offering support in moments of need. Whether it’s helping a family set up camp for the first time, arranging a surprise birthday cake for a young camper, or simply sharing a cup of coffee and a kind word, they embody the spirit of hospitality.
