Awesome campgrounds and super nice hosts! High atop the mountain with unbelievable views, this campground is definitely a hidden gem. Super clean port-a-potties were a plus... lots of nice hiking and biking trails. The town below is quaint and really fun to explore with lots of good food and antique shops. We'll definitely be returning! Thanks Wayne and Mike!!
A lovely little hidden gem of a campground under two hours out of NYC (accessible by car or Metro North rail service) and operated by volunteers of the town's Outdoors Club. Up on the mountain surrounding Port Jervis you can get that "away from it all" camping experience (platform site recommended). You will also get plenty of hiking or mountain biking time on the numerous trails with varying levels of difficulty that surround the campsite (definitely bring your hiking boots). There is access to firewood, potable water and porta-potties on site. If you have other needs, the town is right at the base of the mountain with stores, restaurants and services nearby. There is also a developing boutique section of town with more up and coming stores and venues worth checking out. There are also a few small historical sites in town with more coming in the future. Definitely worth a visit!
This campsite appears to be CLOSED … I was there in August 2023. There is a chain across the entrance to the campsite and the portapottys are padlocked. There was no one else camping there. The number on google maps is permanently engaged. The web links on the notice board at the campsite entrance are invalid. There was nothing to say you couldn’t camp there, but as there was no one else around and the location is quite isolated, I personally didn’t feel comfortable pitching my tent. If you can’t get through to the number on google maps, I would suggest making alternate plans
Nice place for a hike , if you don't like walking you can drive up and take some nice pictures.
Great park! Is there a way to book the campsite for a small/medium group?
