Quail Hill Scout Reservation Introduce

For families and outdoor enthusiasts in the New Jersey region, Quail Hill Scout Reservation stands as a premier destination for immersive nature experiences and structured outdoor adventure. Located in the heart of Monmouth County, this 250-acre reservation is owned and operated by the Monmouth Council of Scouting America. While it serves as a cornerstone for local Scouting programs, its expansive woodlands, meadows, and facilities offer a versatile environment for anyone looking to reconnect with the great outdoors. Originally a working farm purchased in the 1960s, the property has been thoughtfully transformed into a year-round haven that balances rustic charm with modern amenities.

The reservation is particularly well-regarded for its ability to provide a "deep woods" feel while remaining conveniently located in suburban Manalapan Township. Whether you are a parent looking for a safe and engaging summer day camp for your children or a group leader planning a weekend retreat, Quail Hill provides the space and resources to make it happen. The grounds are impeccably maintained, featuring a blend of open activity fields and dense forest trails that showcase the diverse ecology of Central New Jersey. From the quiet rustle of leaves along the nature trails to the energetic atmosphere of the main parade field, the campground is designed to foster discovery and community.

Location and accessibility are two of the reservation's most practical advantages for local New Jersey residents. Situated at 56 La Valley Dr, Manalapan Township, NJ 07726, it is easily reachable from major routes such as Route 33 and Route 9. This central location makes it an ideal spot for "staycations" or short weekend trips that don't require hours of driving. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a well-organized infrastructure that includes free on-site parking and a clear layout. The reservation has made significant strides in inclusivity, providing a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible parking lots, and accessible restroom facilities to ensure that all visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the site.

The services offered at Quail Hill Scout Reservation are designed to accommodate a variety of camping styles and needs. While many visitors enjoy the traditional experience of sleeping under the stars, the camp also offers upgraded accommodations for those who prefer a more structured environment. The staff is frequently praised by regulars for being accommodating and professional, often going above and beyond to assist groups with equipment or logistics. The following services are available to enhance your visit:

  • Year-round weekend camping options including traditional tent sites, lean-tos, and heated cabins.
  • Summer Day Camp programs for youth, featuring a dynamic rotation of STEM, nature exploration, and outdoor skills.
  • Professional range services for archery and BB gun shooting, supervised by certified instructors.
  • Trading Post services where visitors can purchase snacks, drinks, and essential camping supplies.
  • Rental facilities for day use, suitable for special events like courts of honor, training classes, or family picnics.
  • NFC mobile and credit card payment options for camp fees and trading post purchases.
  • Modern sanitation services including public restrooms and shower facilities to maintain comfort during multi-day stays.

The features and highlights of Quail Hill make it a standout choice among New Jersey campgrounds. The property’s 250 acres are packed with activity areas that cater to both high-energy play and quiet reflection. For many, the highlight is the expansive parade field, which serves as a hub for group activities and games. Others find their favorite moments on the 11-mile Battle of Monmouth Historic Trail, which begins right at the reservation and offers a unique blend of fitness and local history. Key features of the campground include:

  • Extensive hiking and nature trails that wind through woodlands, streams, and meadows.
  • An on-site lake and pond stocked with fish, perfect for catch-and-release fishing adventures.
  • An outdoor swimming pool complex used for instruction and recreation during the summer months.
  • The Lawrence Training Center, a modern lodge with a full kitchen and updated restrooms for large group meetings.
  • Dedicated picnic areas equipped with pavilions and picnic tables for family or group dining.
  • Specialized sports facilities including a BB gun range, archery range, and a large activities field.
  • Kid-friendly amenities such as playgrounds, slides, swings, and nature trails specifically designed for younger explorers.
  • The future home of the New Jersey Scouting Museum, highlighting the rich history of the movement in the state.

Planning your visit to Quail Hill Scout Reservation is a straightforward process. The main office can be reached at (732) 446-6521 for inquiries regarding campsite availability, cabin rentals, or summer camp registration. For those using mobile devices, the contact number is +1 732-446-6521. The reservation is located at 56 La Valley Dr, Manalapan Township, NJ 07726, USA. It is highly recommended to book in advance, especially for popular weekends in September and October when the fall foliage is at its peak and the weather is ideal for hiking.

What is worth choosing about Quail Hill Scout Reservation is the unique combination of safety, history, and variety. For New Jersey parents, it provides a secure environment where children can learn independence and outdoor skills under the guidance of a dedicated staff. The camp’s status as a "safespace" and its LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere reflect a modern, inclusive approach to the traditional camping experience. Unlike many primitive sites, the presence of decent shower and bathroom facilities makes it a more accessible entry point for families who are new to camping.

Furthermore, the value of the "all-in-one" experience cannot be overstated. You can start your day with a rigorous hike on a historic trail, spend the afternoon fishing or at the archery range, and end the evening with a traditional campfire—all without leaving the property. Its proximity to local Manalapan attractions also means you are never too far from civilization if you need to run out for extra supplies. Whether you are a long-time Scouter or a local resident looking for a well-maintained piece of New Jersey’s wilderness, Quail Hill offers a professional and friendly gateway to the great outdoors. Choosing this reservation means choosing a site where history is preserved, and new adventures are always just around the corner.

Awesome campground we come almost every September. The kids love it here because of the big field and activities. The lake has plenty of fish but the kids hate walking to it(1 mile from main camping area). Gun and Archery range that is plenty of fun and hiking trails throughout. Bathroom and shower facilities are decent. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.

The camp is incredibly well maintained. The staff are great, and Ranger Adam does an exceptional job taking care of the camp. Both the year round and the Cub Scout Camp aspects are incredibly put together.

Exceptionally well maintained Camp. Cabins recently upgraded exceeding our expectations of a youth camp. Recent upgrades of adding pavilions to most every campsite makes this camp a perfect place to go regardless of the weather. In the heart of Monmouth County camping there gives you the feeling you’re in the woods. The Ranger and staff on the property are accommodating, friendly, and accessible. Our group is from Pennsylvania. On arrival we realized we had forgotten piece of equipment. Rather than being a disaster for our weekend, the camp staff was able to provide us loaner equipment save our event. The activity fields and program areas are impeccably maintained. Most important to us the cabins and bathroom facilities accommodate both boys and girls more than adequately.
