River Rock Cottages Introduce

For New Yorkers who hear the call of the St. Lawrence River every summer, River Rock Cottages offers an authentic Thousand Islands experience that perfectly balances seclusion with accessibility. Located in the heart of Carnegie Bay, this collection of waterfront rentals provides a front-row seat to one of the most majestic waterways in North America. Whether you are a local resident from the North Country or a traveler from downstate looking for a "home away from home," these cottages serve as a sanctuary where the rhythm of the day is dictated by the passing of international cargo ships and the gentle lap of waves against the shoreline. It is a place designed for those who value a laid-back, friendly atmosphere where neighbors quickly become friends and the sunset over the river is a nightly event.

The identity of River Rock Cottages is rooted in its tradition as a family-friendly and pet-friendly retreat. Formerly known as Pionteck Cottages, the property has undergone thoughtful updates under new ownership to meet the needs of modern travelers while preserving its classic riverside charm. For many families, an annual trip to the "Bay" is a multi-generational tradition, and this location has become a preferred choice for its unique geological features—specifically the patio-like bedrock slabs that slope gently toward the water. This natural landscape provides an ideal setting for evening fires, ship watching, and direct access to the river's recreational activities, making every moment of the vacation feel connected to the environment.

Conveniently situated at 46931 Carnegie Bay Rd, Alexandria Bay, NY 13607, the cottages are remarkably easy to reach for New York residents. Located just a half-mile from the bustling village of Alexandria Bay, guests enjoy the best of both worlds: a quiet, protected bay setting that is within walking distance of the town’s iconic restaurants, shops, and tour boat docks. For those driving from Central New York or the Southern Tier, the route via I-81 North is straightforward, providing a scenic transition into the lush landscapes of Jefferson County. The property is positioned away from the heavy main-channel traffic, offering a safer and calmer environment for swimming and docking.

Accessibility within the grounds is designed to facilitate a seamless transition from your vehicle to your cottage and then to the water. The property features on-site parking specifically reserved for guests, and the layout of the cottages ensures that the spectacular river views are never far from your front door. The proximity to the village means that even those who prefer to leave their car parked for the duration of their stay can easily access local grocery stores, pharmacy services, and the famous Boldt Castle shuttle ferries. The gentle slope of the bedrock provides a natural, stable path down to the docks, accommodating guests of various ages and activity levels.

The cabin was very cozy and fit the 7 of us very comfortably. Lots of space, inside and out. Incredible view onto the St. Lawrence river, with a patio-like bedrock slab that slopes down to the docks. Perfect place for evening fires. We rented pontoon boats that we moored directly behind the house and it was non stop fun. The host was lovely and wanted to make certain that we had everything we could need. 10/10 would do again.

My sister and I stayed this past weekend with our girls. This was our first time in Alexandria Bay. The location right on the water is so peaceful and beautiful. The cottage itself was everything we needed and close to all the touristy spots. The owner Carol is such a nice lady and kept checking in to see if all was ok and if we needed anything. We can't wait to make this an October tradition now.

First of all, the area was beautiful and the sunsets were among the best we've ever seen. Every evening, a magnificent great blue heron perched on a rock while Canadian geese paddled through, making for spectacular photo ops (bird enthusiasts will love it here and the amazing lack of goose poo) You just can't put a price on location and it was perfect. River access was great (no parking for trailers), quiet cove with slower boat traffic, but the docks were in need of repair/overhaul. Close to downtown restaurants and shops and tour boats. The cottage we stayed in was very basic, rather rustic and in need of updates (floors were uneven, toilet was a little wonky, buggy, beds were in need of replacement, WiFi spotty). Looking forward to the upgrades expected. The appliances worked fine as well as the hot water heater, and the window a/c units cooled the entire cottage with a little patience and a fan (in need of serious cleaning).

Carol was very nice and helpful. The main cottage was very large. Tv with cable in living room was nice. Kitchen was fully equipped. The docks have 110 power but bring a long extension cord. Some things to be addressed, the drinking water was dirty. Bring your own. The steps to the upstairs are quite steep. No boat trailer parking. The owner of the NAPA store, Bob, let us park for free on his lot. We had a great time there.
