Stony Mountain Family Campground Introduce

For Pennsylvania families seeking a classic outdoor experience away from the noise of the city, Stony Mountain Family Campground stands as a beloved destination in the heart of the Endless Mountains. Spanning over 57 acres of diverse wooded and open terrain, this campground has been a staple of the Tunkhannock community since it first opened its doors in 1963. Now under dedicated family ownership that prioritizes a "home away from home" atmosphere, the property has evolved into a comprehensive retreat that balances the rugged beauty of Northeastern Pennsylvania with the essential comforts that modern campers expect. Whether you are arriving with a large RV or a simple tent, Stony Mountain offers a peaceful environment where the primary goal is creating lasting memories in a scenic mountain setting.

The campground is particularly well-regarded by local residents for its tranquil and welcoming spirit. Unlike larger, corporate-run resorts, Stony Mountain maintains a personal touch, with owners and staff frequently going out of their way to ensure guest comfort. This commitment to service is reflected in the community of long-term and weekend campers who return year after year. The landscape itself provides a perfect backdrop for relaxation, featuring rolling hills and a stunning 12-acre lake that serves as the community's centerpiece. For many Pennsylvanians, this park represents the ideal middle ground between primitive wilderness and developed recreation, offering a space where children can explore nature safely while parents enjoy the quiet solitude of the forest.

Location and accessibility are major advantages for visitors coming from throughout the region. Situated at 644 Stony Mountain Rd, Tunkhannock, PA 18657, the campground is just under five miles northwest of the historic borough of Tunkhannock. This proximity allows guests to enjoy the secluded feel of the mountains while remaining close to local conveniences, such as the Dietrich Theater and various charming boutiques and eateries in town. For those traveling from Scranton, the drive is a manageable 35-minute commute, while visitors from Wilkes-Barre can reach the grounds in about 45 minutes. The park is designed to accommodate a wide variety of vehicles, featuring sites that are capable of hosting "big rigs" with ease, ensuring that even those with the largest RVs can navigate the property comfortably.

The services offered at Stony Mountain Family Campground are designed to cater to every level of camping expertise. From full hook-up RV sites to secluded tenting areas, the facility provides flexible lodging options. For those who do not own their own equipment, the campground also offers clean and well-maintained rental campers and rustic cabins, providing a "turnkey" camping experience. The management takes great pride in maintaining the infrastructure, recently updating electrical services to include 20, 30, and 50-amp options across the RV sites. Additionally, the presence of an on-site general store ensures that guests can easily replenish supplies without having to leave the mountain.

  • Full hook-up RV sites equipped with 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical service.
  • Dedicated tent sites nestled in both wooded and open areas for maximum privacy.
  • Clean rental campers and rustic cabins available for guests without personal gear.
  • A well-stocked general store providing light groceries, camping supplies, ice, and propane.
  • On-site laundry facilities and a dump station for the convenience of long-term guests.
  • Firewood for sale with the added benefit of free delivery directly to your campsite.

The features and highlights of Stony Mountain are centered on its impressive array of outdoor and indoor recreational opportunities. The 12-acre lake is a significant draw, stocked with bass, perch, and walleye, making it a premier spot for local anglers. For those who prefer land-based activities, Kaden’s Nature Trail offers a scenic route for hiking and wildlife observation. The campground also features unique "resident" highlights, such as friendly goats and donkeys that are often a favorite for children. When the weather doesn't cooperate, the Longhorn Lodge—the largest indoor activity center in the area—provides over 3,000 square feet of entertainment, including pool tables, video games, and air hockey.

  • A 12-acre stocked lake perfect for fishing, boating, and kayaking.
  • Kaleb’s Pond, featuring a sandy beach area for sunbathing and swimming.
  • Kaden’s Nature Trail, a well-marked path for hiking and exploring the 57-acre property.
  • The Longhorn Lodge indoor activity center, featuring a pool table, foosball, and arcade games.
  • Saxon’s Playground, a modern and safe space for children to burn off energy.
  • Planned weekend activities throughout the season, including a kids' fishing derby and hayrides.
  • Two pavilions (one by the lake and one by the pond) available for group gatherings.
  • Farm animal interactions with the campground's friendly resident goats and donkeys.

What is worth choosing at Stony Mountain is the exceptional level of personal care provided by the owners. In an industry where guest experience can often feel transactional, Stony Mountain stands out for its kindness and dedication. It is worth choosing for families who want their children to experience "old-fashioned" camping, where they can ride bikes, catch their first fish, and meet new friends in a safe environment. For RV travelers, choosing this park is worth it for the spacious, flat sites and reliable power hook-ups that make the technical side of camping stress-free. The combination of beautiful lakeside views and top-tier indoor facilities makes it a versatile choice that ensures your vacation is enjoyable regardless of the weather.

Furthermore, the campground's proximity to Tunkhannock’s historic attractions adds a layer of cultural value to your stay. You can spend your morning hiking the Endless Mountains and your afternoon exploring the local shops or catching a movie at the historic theater. Stony Mountain Family Campground provides the perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility, making it a premier choice for any Pennsylvania resident looking for a high-quality, family-oriented outdoor adventure. Whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth, the sense of community and the beauty of the mountain will make you feel right at home.

We rented a camper for the holiday weekend. It was clean and well maintained. There was a DVD player here and I thought we would watch a movie tonight but I contacted the office because it wouldn't work. The owner came down and looked and she couldn't get it to work either. Needless to say we were still ok with it because it's nit her fault. She left and returned a short time later with her own personal DVD player. I am impressed that she went out of her way for us. It was very kind of her to do. I definitely would recommend coming here.we have already booked our next stay.

Probably THE BEST campground I have ever visited. The staff is EXTREMELY professional and welcome. Virginia runs an amazing well kept ground. The area is VERY quiet with plenty of family friendly amenities. Make sure to pick up some fresh eggs, say hi to the goats and donkeys, swim in the pond, or fish on the lake! Can't ask for a better managed camp.

Really awesome experience. Rustic creek failed to refund my reservation after flooding which required me to dispute the charge through my CC company. Because of this, I decided to try it Stony Mountain and I'm glad I did. Very friendly vibes and an enjoyable experience.
