Sun Retreats Lancaster County Introduce

Sun Retreats Lancaster County, formerly known to many Pennsylvania locals as Lake in Wood Camping Resort, is a premier destination for those seeking an immersive outdoor experience in the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Spanning over 200 acres of lush forest and scenic landscapes in Narvon, this resort is more than just a place to park an RV; it is a full-scale vacation destination designed to capture the whimsical and serene essence of Lancaster County. From its iconic gnome-themed decor to its expansive six-acre lake, the resort offers a unique blend of traditional camping charm and modern luxury amenities that cater to families, couples, and solo travelers alike.

The resort is widely recognized for its high standards of maintenance and its commitment to providing a "world-class" camping environment. Whether you are a local resident from the Philadelphia suburbs looking for a nearby weekend escape or a traveler exploring the heritage of the Amish countryside, Sun Retreats Lancaster County provides a versatile range of accommodations. The park is especially famous for its "Unique Lodging" options, which include themed rentals like the Pirate Inn—a creatively converted ship-themed residence—alongside more traditional log cabins, park models, and spacious RV sites. This diversity ensures that whether you prefer "roughing it" in a tent or relaxing in a climate-controlled bungalow with a full kitchen, there is a space tailored to your needs.

Location and accessibility are major highlights for this Narvon-based retreat. Situated at 576 Yellow Hill Rd, Narvon, PA 17555, the resort is strategically located between the major hubs of Lancaster and Reading. For local Pennsylvanians, this means easy access via Route 23 or Route 10, connecting the park to the broader network of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The drive itself is a scenic introduction to the region, taking visitors past sprawling farms, roadside produce stands, and the quiet beauty of the Welsh Mountains. The resort has worked diligently to ensure the property is inclusive, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances, accessible parking lots, and specialized restroom facilities to accommodate guests with mobility challenges.

Accessibility also extends to the physical layout of the campground. While the park is large and features some wooded, winding roads that offer privacy and shade, it is designed to be navigable for a variety of vehicle types. Many guests recommend the use of golf carts—which are available for rental on-site—to travel between the various activity hubs, such as the lake, the pool complex, and the recreation hall. This ease of movement allows residents to spend less time commuting through the park and more time enjoying the numerous activities scattered across the property.

As a full-service resort, Sun Retreats Lancaster County offers an extensive list of services designed to provide a "home away from home" experience. The onsite services are geared toward convenience and comfort, ensuring that guests have everything they need without having to leave the property. Some of the primary services offered include:

  • Full hookup RV sites featuring electric (30 and 50 amp), water, and sewer connections for all types of certified RVs.
  • A variety of vacation rentals including cabins, cottages, and unique themed lodgings such as the Pirate Inn and Yurts.
  • A dedicated camp store, known as the Trading Post, which is stocked with camping essentials, groceries, gifts, and souvenirs.
  • On-site dining at the Getaway Café and Gnome Café, serving burgers, local favorites, and hand-dipped ice cream.
  • Laundry facilities and multiple clean comfort stations with hot showers and restrooms throughout the park.
  • Propane refill services, ice sales, and firewood delivery for those cozy evening campfires.
  • High-speed Wi-Fi and cable TV access in designated areas to keep guests connected during their stay.
  • NFC mobile payment options and acceptance of all major credit and debit cards for a seamless transaction experience.

The features and highlights of Sun Retreats Lancaster County are what truly set it apart from standard campgrounds in the region. The resort is designed to function as a self-contained entertainment hub with a focus on family-friendly fun and outdoor recreation. Notable highlights include:

  • A sparkling six-acre lake stocked for fishing and open for boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
  • A comprehensive pool complex featuring both an indoor heated pool and a seasonal outdoor pool, complete with a spa tub and kiddie splash pad.
  • The historic Entertainment Hall, which houses a one-of-a-kind restored pipe organ and hosts various community events and rallies.
  • Extensive sports facilities, including a miniature golf course, basketball courts, volleyball, softball fields, and shuffleboard.
  • A vibrant game room and arcade, along with planned activities such as hayrides, trolley rides, and organized crafts for children.
  • Direct access to hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forest, perfect for those looking to explore the natural Pennsylvania terrain.
  • Pet-friendly amenities, including two dedicated dog parks where four-legged friends can run off-leash in a secure environment.
  • Themed weekends and special events, such as Halloween parades and "glow parties" at the indoor pool.

Choosing the right destination for a family vacation involves balancing adventure with relaxation. Sun Retreats Lancaster County is worth choosing because it provides a highly managed and safe environment where parents can feel comfortable letting their children explore. The regular staff patrols and gated access ensure a level of security that is highly valued by local users. Furthermore, the park is worth choosing for its sheer variety of activities; it is a place where you can spend the morning fishing on the lake, the afternoon playing mini-golf, and the evening enjoying live music or a movie in the recreation hall without ever leaving the grounds.

Additionally, for those who value unique experiences, the themed rentals are a standout choice that you won't find at most other RV parks. While some guests have noted that older units like the Pirate Inn may show signs of their adventurous history, the novelty and joy they bring to children are often cited as the highlight of the trip. If you are looking for a relaxing, well-maintained, and high-energy environment that celebrates the best of Lancaster County’s natural beauty and hospitality, Sun Retreats is an excellent choice. I have stayed here many times in the past years in my camper and have enjoyed the well maintained grounds and facilities. This year my family and I rented a cabin. It was well kept and clean. I have enjoyed all my relaxing vacations here at sun retreats. My only recommendations to sun retreats are more comfortable mattresses in the cabins for a good night sleep while you are on vacation and more activities during the week to keep the fun coming for the kids. Sun retreats is a great place to visit for a relaxing vacation!

This was our first time to Sun Retreats, we were booked in the Pirate Inn. While this is not the most top of the line campground it was very nice considering you are suppose to be camping. Our Pirate Inn was essentially a single wide trailer converted into a pirate ship on the outside. It wasn’t in its best condition, but considering the fact that we didn’t spend a ton of time inside it was ok, I do have to mention the queen bed was horrible and the mattresses in the loft are not actual twin mattresses, slightly smaller and thin. The shower water does not stay hot very long and there were some things in the inn that needed some updating. All in all the campground as a whole is very family friendly and we suggest using a golf cart to get around the site.

Stayed 9/27/2025. For an older campground this place is nice. We have been coming for years. Well maintained, clean bathrooms, friendly staff, store, activities. As technology changes upgrades to wifi would be best to increase the experience, but you are camping and need to consider that. Site A premium site is a dead zone. Disappointed but it's a great way to get out and explore the nearby area for restaurants, bars and entertainment if you need tech in your life. Dog friendly.

We had a great time. Lots of free activities including mini golf. Two dog parks, friendly dogs not overly crowded. Staff was plentiful and friendly. Spots are decently sized and very private. Campground was fairly quiet. Indoor pool was clean and open until 9pm with a glow party Saturday night. Comfort stations were clean too. Very big campground. Will return!

Great campground. Our site was very nice. Level and hook ups were right where they should be. Kids loved it too. So much to do. Swimming in the pools, fishing in the very nice pond( or lake), playgrounds, organized crafts..... Well stocked camp store. Well priced dry firewood. Cheap pedal boat. Very large campground. To get around you really need to rent a golf cart, which they are reasonable also. We will be coming back!!
