The Awosting Club Introduce

For those living in the fast-paced environment of the New York metropolitan area, finding a true sanctuary for relaxation and outdoor immersion is essential. The Awosting Club, located in the scenic town of Wallkill, offers a unique alternative to traditional crowded campgrounds. Spanning nearly 250 acres of pristine wilderness along the famous Shawangunk Ridge, this private reserve is a destination where conservation meets comfort. It is designed specifically for nature lovers who want to experience the raw beauty of the "Gunks" without sacrificing the amenities that make a getaway truly restful.

The property has a rich history as a site for environmental education and outdoor leadership. Today, it serves as a family-run retreat that allows guests to "commune with nature in all her glory." Whether you are looking for a rugged weekend of hiking or a "glamping" experience in a modern geodesic dome, The Awosting Club provides an exclusive atmosphere that feels like having a private national park all to yourself. The landscape is defined by dramatic ravines, dense hardwood forests, and the soothing sounds of running water from on-site streams and waterfalls.

Located at 50 Camp Ridge Rd, Wallkill, NY 12589, the club is exceptionally accessible for New York residents. It is situated less than two hours from New York City and approximately 40 minutes from Poughkeepsie, making it an ideal destination for a weekend escape. The reserve sits adjacent to the 30,000-acre Minnewaska State Park Preserve, providing guests with easy access to some of the most celebrated climbing and hiking terrain in the United States while maintaining the quiet privacy of a gated community.

  • Professional property management and attentive guest services.
  • Private guided hiking tours available upon request.
  • On-site parking for all guests and residents.
  • Pet-friendly accommodations (dogs are allowed with prior notice).
  • Access to private, well-maintained trail networks.
  • Convenient payment options, including major debit cards.
  • Kid-friendly environment with activities suitable for families.
  • Concierge-style add-ons such as grocery shopping, yoga sessions, and private chef arrangements.

The Awosting Club is distinguished by its diverse range of accommodations and natural landmarks. The most prominent feature is the Awosting Mountain House, a sprawling 5,500-square-foot log cabin built in the 1890s. This historic structure features American Chestnut walls, multiple decks overlooking a 150-foot waterfall, and freshwater reflection pools that offer a chemical-free swimming experience. Inside, the house is a "museum of curated artifacts," complete with an 1890s fireplace, a grand piano, and plenty of space for large families or groups.

For those seeking a more modern connection to the outdoors, the club offers luxury Geodesic Domes. These seasonal structures are perched high above a ravine and feature wide windows for stargazing and forest views. Unlike traditional tent camping, these domes provide a sophisticated "glamping" experience with modern comforts.

  • Three private waterfalls on the property, including the 150-foot main fall.
  • Miles of private hiking trails and direct access to the base of Gertrude’s Nose.
  • Modern Geodesic Domes equipped with heat, air conditioning, and skylights.
  • Picnic areas and dedicated tent sites for a classic camping feel.
  • Outdoor amenities including private fire pits, hammocks, and charcoal grills.
  • Essential facilities such as running water, restrooms, and solar showers.
  • Unique interior features like mini-fridges, Keurig coffee makers, and cozy linens in the domes.

If you are planning a visit or need to inquire about availability, you can reach the management through the following contact details:

Choosing The Awosting Club over a standard public campground is a choice for peace and exclusivity. While public parks in the Hudson Valley can become crowded during peak seasons, the private nature of this reserve ensures that your trails and views remain undisturbed. It is the perfect choice for those who appreciate the "rustic luxury" lifestyle—where you can spend the morning snowshoeing or hiking to a private waterfall and the evening sipping coffee on a deck with the sounds of a mountain stream in the background.

Furthermore, the commitment to conservation and the historical significance of the land add a layer of depth to the stay. You aren't just renting a campsite; you are participating in a legacy of land stewardship that dates back to the mid-1950s. Whether it is the antique-filled halls of the Mountain House or the star-filled views from the domes, The Awosting Club offers a restorative experience that is hard to find elsewhere in the New York region.

We stayed in the mountain house for a celebration with extended family. The house is extraordinary, both inside and out. We absolutely loved it.It was so peaceful to sit outside with views of a waterfall and the sounds of the little stream running right through the deck. We loved swimming in the natural pools, hiking the trails, and seeing deer walk right by.The home is full of antiques and interesting artifacts. The layout is great for kids to watch a movie or play in one room, while adults could lounge and chat in the very next room.Katie, the property manager, was attentive and professional. She has so much knowledge about the history of the home, and she was happy to answer our endless questions. She even took the time to give our kids a tour of the grounds. We were grateful for her patience and friendliness, because our group can be a handful!I honestly can't wait to stay there again!

This outdoor oasis is nestled in the woods overlooking a running creek, and the grid ones are nicer than many hotels! They are beautifully decorated and even come with amenities like a mini fridge, electricity, heat and even a Keurig coffee maker ! Each dome has their own deck with Adirondack chairs, plus a fire pit, grill, Solar outdoor shower and the nicest private “ outhouse” I’ve ever seen. The private grounds are a hidden gem, with trails leading to two waterfalls. Our host Katie greeted us with a smile, and was so helpful. This is the perfect getaway for those that love the outdoors but not “roughing it” too much. We will definitely be back!!

Amazing experience, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I stayed at one of the geodomes for a weekend getaway and the place was just beautiful. It was quiet, relaxing, and the manager Katie was super friendly and accommodating. She really made our stay so special! The geodome was clean and comfy (had the best sleep I've had in a while), just the perfect place to unwind. There was a lot to see and do on and off site. I couldn't recommend this place anymore, I can't wait to go back!!

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at the Awosting Club! They certainly offered great hospitality, the owner regularly checked in and pointed in the right direction of their private hiking trail. The location of the Club was really beautiful especially in the fall, also the perfect distance from Angry Orchards, and also the Hoot owl restaurant nearby which is a must for a nice dinner. I definitely look forward to revisiting this site again in the future!

Perfect glamping experience; Katie showed us to our geodome and was super hospitable and easy to communicate with. Would definitely recommend a stay here if you’re trying to get out of the city for a bit!
