For New Jersey residents seeking a peaceful yet activity-filled getaway, Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake offers a refreshing retreat in the heart of the coastal lowlands. Located in Port Republic, this campground is much more than just a place to park an RV; it is a multifaceted recreation center and park designed to provide families with a "home away from home" experience. Nestled within the unique ecosystem of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, Chestnut Lake combines the rustic charm of woodland camping with the modern amenities that today’s travelers expect. Whether you are a local South Jersey resident looking for a weekend escape or a North Jersey family exploring the Shore region, this destination provides a well-run and welcoming atmosphere.

Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake has earned a reputation among the local camping community as a model of efficient and friendly management. Often praised for its immaculate grounds and high standards of maintenance, the resort stands out as a top-tier choice within the Thousand Trails network. The staff, including dedicated membership specialists, are frequently noted for their professional and caring approach, ensuring that every guest feels valued from the moment they pull through the gates. With its serene lake and variety of site options—ranging from sun-drenched lots to shaded woodland spots—it offers a customizable outdoor experience tailored to individual preferences.

The location of the campground is one of its most significant advantages for New Jersey travelers. Situated at 631 Chestnut Neck Rd, Port Republic, NJ 08241, the site is strategically positioned just off the Garden State Parkway. This makes it incredibly accessible for those traveling from across the state. Despite its proximity to major transit routes, the campground maintains a quiet, secluded feel, bordered by the Port Republic Wildlife Management Area. For those who want to mix nature with entertainment, the resort is a short 20-minute drive from the glitz and glamour of Atlantic City and the pristine beaches of the Jersey Shore, offering the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.

Accessibility is a priority at Chestnut Lake, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the facilities with ease. The campground features wheelchair-accessible entrances, dedicated parking lots, and restrooms, making it an inclusive environment for families with diverse needs. For those traveling with heavy rigs, the park offers robust infrastructure including full hookups to support an extended stay. The commitment to onsite services means that maintenance is proactive rather than reactive, keeping the facilities in peak condition throughout the camping season.

Services offered at Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake include:

  • Full RV camping accommodations with 30 and 50-amp electrical service.
  • Comprehensive utility hookups including sewer and water connections.
  • On-site maintenance and management services to assist with guest needs.
  • High-speed NFC mobile payment options for convenience at the camp store or office.
  • Dedicated camping fees and membership support for Thousand Trails pass holders.
  • Regular facility cleaning and landscape upkeep by professional staff.
  • Seasonal site options for those looking to make the park their permanent summer retreat.

The highlights of Chestnut Lake revolve around its impressive recreational facilities. The namesake lake is a focal point for visitors, offering tranquil water views and excellent fishing opportunities for those who enjoy a quiet morning by the shore. For families, the pool area is a central gathering spot, frequently described as beautiful and meticulously clean. The park also places a heavy emphasis on community, hosting a variety of "awesome events" and planned activities that bring campers together, from arts and crafts for children to social gatherings for adults.

What is worth choosing at Thousand Trails Chestnut Lake is the peace of mind that comes with a professionally managed facility. For many New Jersey campers, the reliability of the staff and the cleanliness of the facilities are the deciding factors. If you are looking for a location that prioritizes the guest experience and maintains a strictly family-friendly environment, this is an excellent choice. The "1000 Trails specialist" staff members are highly recommended for those looking to learn more about membership benefits, which can provide significant value for frequent travelers.

Additionally, the campground is worth choosing for its pet-friendly amenities. The cute little dog park is a favorite among guests, allowing pets to burn off energy in a safe, enclosed space. While some campers mention that local insects can be active—a natural part of the Pine Barrens experience—the high-quality pool, the friendly office greetings, and the proximity to Atlantic City make this a standout destination. For a factual, high-standard camping experience in South Jersey, Chestnut Lake remains one of the most respected names in the region. Whether you are coming for the fishing, the pool, or the community events, you will find a well-organized park ready to welcome you to the great outdoors.

Great place to relax. Sometimes the bugs are a little much, but hey that's camping. All of the ladies that work at the front office are amazing and so friendly. The 1000 trails specialist Daisy is absolutely awesome. She's so fun to spend time with. They have varying size lots, and you can get ones that are all Sun or some that are in the shade. Just a nice little place.Update 09/30/25Let me start by saying I have not been to all of the Thousand Trails NJ campgrounds yet but I have been to one that Thousand Trails would be smart to remove from under their umbrella and it's not Chestnut Lake. This place is a model for how a campground should be run. The office staff has always greeted me with a smile and courteous interactions. It was very enjoyable to come back here after a nightmare experience at Sea Pines. This group knows how to treat their campers. They maintenance staff is always doing real maintenance not just busy work. So far when management is aware of a problem with the facilities or an issue with other campers, the problems are always addressed and if able, rectified. If there was an award for how a campground should be run, this is it! Take notice ELS/Thousand trails and recognize thos magnificent staff/Campground. I just wanted to say too. That it was so nice that as soon as I pulled in, I was greeted with the utterly amazing happiness and shining positivity of Daisy, who is a membership specialist and an amazing ambassador of the company.

I’ve been around enough RV parks to know when you’ve found the real deal, and this one is it, it’s a great park. The sites are easy to get into, everything’s kept up, and the amenities do the job. But what really makes it stand out is the crew running the place. They’re absolutely incredible. You can tell they actually care, and they go above and beyond without making a big deal about it.There’s always something fun going on, but even when nothing’s happening, the vibe is just solid. I stayed here through the summer and honestly didn’t want to leave. I’m already planning on coming back the next time I’m in the area.Bottom line: this park’s legit. Highly recommend it if you want a spot that feels easy, welcoming, and run by people who know how to do it right!

I would have given this place five stars except for one glaring issue, there is absolutely no one available for an emergency overnight. The water pipe in the site next to me broke in the middle of the night and when I called and left messages at the maintenance, office, and managers phone numbers nobody returned the call and the water ran until 7:30 in the morning! The water ran for 7 hours and flooded the entire area of the campground until the maintenance guy showed up at 7:30 a.m. the staff is very nice, and the amenities are well kept but someone really needs to answer the phone there during an emergency like this
