Watkins Regional Park Campground Introduce
Watkins Regional Park Campground offers a peaceful retreat for nature enthusiasts and families looking to experience the great outdoors without traveling far from the comforts of the Maryland suburbs. Nestled within the expansive 850-acre Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, this campground serves as a premier destination for those seeking a "dry camping" or primitive experience. The park is managed by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and is widely recognized for its lush wooded surroundings and diverse recreational opportunities.
Whether you are a seasoned camper or a beginner looking to test out your gear for the first time, the campground provides a scenic backdrop of flat, wooded terrain. Because the facility focuses on primitive tent camping, it offers a quieter atmosphere compared to high-traffic RV resorts. It is an ideal spot for local residents and visitors to disconnect from the hustle of daily life and reconnect with the natural beauty of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Customer Reviews
Large campground with plenty of space and good-sized rustic sites with fire ring and trash/recycling, very affordable! No electric and only one bathhouse on a long loop, so be careful which site you pick or face a little hike on the shaded path or camp loop road. It was very quiet on a hot July weekend, but at least 10 degrees cooler than outside the park, Fall would be lovely. Bring bug spray for skeeters, stay up to watch the fireflies dance. Close to many amenities in a residential area and such a cute park with playgrounds and softball and more! Bathhouse was basic but clean, ADA accessible, and in good condition.
Great beginner dry camping locations have a bathhouse and restrooms. Only few camping spots, so reserve in advance.
The best for solo camping. Felt safe.
