Wawaloam Campground Introduce

For families in Rhode Island and throughout New England, Wawaloam Campground has served as a cherished outdoor destination for over fifty years. Located in the serene, wooded landscape of West Kingston, this campground is a cornerstone of South County’s recreational community. Originally founded in 1969 and named after a local Native American princess, Wawaloam combines the rustic charm of traditional camping with modern, high-energy amenities that keep families coming back generation after generation. Whether you are a local resident looking for a weekend getaway close to home or a seasoned traveler exploring the smallest state in the union, Wawaloam offers a welcoming, community-focused environment that prioritizes relaxation and family fun.

The campground is known for its peaceful, "home away from home" atmosphere, which is maintained by a dedicated staff and a vibrant community of seasonal campers. Unlike many standard campgrounds that focus solely on the basics, Wawaloam has built a reputation for its extensive array of on-site activities and well-maintained facilities. From its famous water park features to the quiet, shaded sites perfect for a summer afternoon nap, the park strikes a rare balance between excitement and tranquility. It is a place where special memories are made, whether through a morning spent fishing at the pond or an evening gathered around a stone fire ring under a starlit Rhode Island sky.

Wawaloam Campground is strategically located at 510 Gardiner Rd, West Kingston, RI 02892, putting it right in the heart of Southern New England. This central location makes it an ideal home base for exploring Rhode Island’s most popular attractions. Residents from the Providence area or the northern part of the state will find it an easy drive south, while those from the coastal towns of Narragansett and Charlestown are just a short distance away. The campground is conveniently positioned near URI (University of Rhode Island) and is only about a 35-minute drive from the historic waterfront and mansions of Newport.

Accessibility is a priority at Wawaloam, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the facilities. The campground features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible parking lots, and specialized restroom facilities. The grounds themselves consist of over 300 sites spread across several beautiful acres, with paved main roads that are perfect for children to ride their bikes safely. The layout is designed to accommodate a variety of camping styles, from smaller travel trailers to large motorhomes with multiple slide-outs, ensuring that navigating the park is manageable for all types of vehicles.

To ensure a comfortable and hassle-free stay, Wawaloam Campground offers a comprehensive range of onsite services. These services are designed to cater to the needs of modern RVers and traditional campers alike, allowing guests to focus on their vacation rather than logistics. The service offerings include:

  • Full RV hookups featuring both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service.
  • Individual water and sewer hookups available at most sites for maximum convenience.
  • A well-stocked General Store on-site, offering camping essentials, ice, firewood, and snacks.
  • Professional onsite management and office staff available for questions, suggestions, and assistance.
  • Modern laundry facilities located near the front of the park to keep gear fresh during longer stays.
  • Sanitary dump stations available for residents at non-sewer sites or those passing through.
  • On-site RV services and maintenance options for guests experiencing technical issues with their rigs.
  • Wireless internet hotspots available at designated locations, such as the camp store and recreation center.

What makes Wawaloam Campground truly worth choosing is its deep-rooted sense of community and commitment to the family experience. In an era where many campgrounds are becoming overly commercialized, Wawaloam maintains a level of genuine hospitality that is hard to find. The staff, including longtime favorites like Wendy in the office, are known for their helpfulness and for making every guest feel like part of the Wawaloam family. This personal touch is a major reason why many visitors eventually decide to become seasonal campers, transforming their favorite vacation spot into a permanent summer retreat.

The value for the price is another significant factor for Rhode Island families. Wawaloam offers a high-end experience with its waterpark and clean facilities at a price point that remains competitive and fair. By including up to three children in their base rate and keeping pet fees low, the campground makes it affordable for larger families to enjoy a comprehensive vacation without leaving the state. The combination of quiet, wooded seclusion and high-energy water activities ensures that there is something for everyone—from the toddler who wants to splash in the water to the adult who simply wants to sit by the fire with a good book. If you are looking for a reliable, fun-filled, and welcoming campground in Southern Rhode Island, Wawaloam is undoubtedly the place to be.

Our family had an absolutely amazing experience at Wawaloam Campground! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and part of their community. This family-friendly campground has genuine hospitality and every single person we interacted with was fantastic. A big shoutout and special recognition to Wendy at the office — whether it was answering questions, or offering suggestions, she was consistently helpful, kind, and accommodating! Beyond the staff, the grounds were beautifully maintained, clean, and clearly well cared for with pride. We found the campground to be extremely quiet, welcoming, and peaceful. The pool and water slides were a huge hit with our daughter! She enjoyed fishing at the pond and all the daily fun activities. We made some great friends during our stay, which made our experience even more incredible. In fact, we fell in love with the campground so much that we decided to become seasonal campers! It truly feels like a home away from home. Wawaloam is a community built by truly wonderful people and a place where special memories are made. Whether you're looking to relax or enjoy all the fun the campground has to offer, Wawaloam is the perfect place. Highly recommended!!!

This was our first trip to Wawaloam and we had a great experience. The amenities were great. Kids loved the pool and especially the water slides. We had an awesome site with plenty of room. Paved roads were great for the kids to ride their bikes. Very reasonably priced. About the only criticism I would have is that the food truck had weird hours and wasn't open the Sunday of labor day weekend. Other than that it was fantastic and we look forward to coming back in the future

We stayed here for the first time in August and absolutely loved it! There’s so much for everyone in the family to do. We loved the activities, as well as the pool and especially the waterslides. The sites were large and clean. Everyone was so friendly. Having the food trucks on the weekend, as well as some love music, was awesome! We absolutely plan to be back next season
