Winhall Brook Campground Introduce

For those residing in the Green Mountain State, the call of the outdoors is a constant presence. Nestled within the lush hardwood forests of South Londonderry, Winhall Brook Campground offers a quintessential Vermont camping experience that balances rugged natural beauty with well-maintained facilities. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this campground is a favorite local destination for families, hikers, and anglers looking to immerse themselves in the tranquility of the Vermont wilderness. The area is characterized by broad grassy meadows, the rushing waters of Winhall Brook, and its scenic confluence with the West River.

Whether you are a lifelong Vermonter or a newcomer to the region, Winhall Brook Campground serves as a premier basecamp for exploring the southern Green Mountains. The park is renowned for its vibrant fall foliage, which draws photographers and nature lovers from across the state every autumn. It provides a peaceful retreat where the sounds of the river replace the noise of the highway, creating an ideal environment for making memories around a campfire or spending a day exploring miles of interconnected trails. The community atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, reflecting the local spirit of outdoor stewardship and appreciation for Vermont’s natural heritage.

Location and accessibility are among the top reasons locals choose this spot. Located at 919 Winhall Station Rd, South Londonderry, VT 05155, the campground is easily reachable from major Vermont routes while feeling worlds away from the bustle of town. It is situated just seven miles from Ball Mountain Lake, offering residents a direct connection to the expansive recreational opportunities of the surrounding federal lands. The campground is split into North and South camping areas, separated by the Winhall River, with each side offering a distinct perspective of the forest and river landscape.

Understanding the needs of all visitors, the facility has made significant strides in accessibility. The entrance is designed to accommodate various vehicle types, and the park features wheelchair-accessible restrooms and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lot. This ensures that every member of the family, regardless of mobility level, can enjoy the beauty of the Vermont woods. Furthermore, the on-site parking is organized to allow for easy logistics, whether you are arriving with a compact car for tent camping or maneuvering a larger recreational vehicle.

Winhall Brook Campground is committed to providing a functional and comfortable environment for its guests through a range of onsite services. These services are designed to support both "dry" camping enthusiasts and those who prefer a few more modern conveniences. The services offered include:

  • Professional onsite management and park rangers to assist with check-ins and maintenance.

What makes Winhall Brook Campground truly worth choosing is the authenticity of the experience it provides. For local Vermonters, it represents a return to the roots of camping—focusing on the river, the trees, and the company of friends. While many sites are "dry," the availability of 50-amp electric and water hookups in the South loop provides an excellent bridge for those who want the beauty of the forest without sacrificing basic modern power. This flexibility makes it an accessible choice for a wide variety of camping styles, from minimalist tenters to luxury RV travelers.

The commitment to cleanliness and maintenance is another significant draw. Reviewers and frequent visitors consistently praise the park for its spotless bathrooms and well-kept grounds. In a natural setting, having a reliable, clean place to shower with warm water can make all the difference in a multi-day trip. Additionally, the ease of the dumping station and the spaciousness of the sites ensure that the logistics of camping don't overshadow the relaxation. Whether you are floating down the river to stay cool in the summer or lacing up your boots for a trek to Angel Falls via the West River Trail, Winhall Brook Campground provides the perfect infrastructure for a successful outdoor getaway. It is a place where the scenery is second to none and the memories are guaranteed to last.

Our favorite Campground! It's a 3/4 "dry" Campground (bring in your own water and no electric) but a few sites with water/power on South side. But it's beautiful!! Spending our days outside in a wonderful location, bath houses are cleaned twice a day with large outside sink to wash any pots/pans you may have, grounds are kept maintained and we use the river to stay cool. Plan on campfires, good food, good friends and great memories!!

This is, by far, our favorite campground visit of the year. The bathrooms/showers are kept clean. The water pressure is excellent and the water temperature is good and warm. Not quite hot. Everything is kept well mowed and trimmed. Scenery is second to none. Absolutely gorgeous. Cell service is spotty at best. Most sites are without utilities. But some can be had in the south loop. Dumping station is easy to get in and out of.

I would have to say that this is the best campground in Vermont. The army corps do an excellent job in maintaining the grounds. The bathrooms have flush toilets free hot showers and are always clean. Every site is large and has great grass. We go camping here at least 4 times a year and have never had a poor experience. Choose to relax in either the Winhall Brook or the West River. Walk, run or ride your bike on the trails. Some sites have power and water. Some sites have a lean-to. Cell service is not great and that makes it even better. We haven't stayed in a terrible site yet (I don't think there are any). To wrap this up, Winhall Brook Campground is a dog friendly, family friendly campground, and a great place to unplug and relax.

Amazing little spot in the middle of nowhere Vermont! Loved our stay. Really appreciated the trash bag given to us by the lady at check in, very nice little extra. Loved the dish washing station at the bathhouse, really handy since they were no hook up sites. No cell service to speak of but that kind of the point right? Overall we loved our stay and would stay there again if we were in the area.

A great experience from the time we arrived until we left. Beautiful campground that is well maintained by everyone there. No litter. Bathrooms and showers are a little dated but are spotlessly clean.River dissects the park into north and south sections. South side is accessed by a bridge which is right to turn onto. Wish we could have stayed longer.
