Woodlands Camping Resort Introduce

For Maryland residents seeking a true escape into the wilderness without leaving the comfort of a well-managed facility, Woodlands Camping Resort in Elkton offers a premier outdoor experience. Established in 1974, this resort has spent decades cultivating a reputation as a peaceful, family-oriented sanctuary. Nestled directly in the heart of the Elk Neck State Forest, the campground is enveloped by towering hardwoods and lush greenery, providing a natural canopy that keeps the area cool and secluded. It is an ideal destination for local families, outdoor enthusiasts, and even those working in nearby regions like Wilmington, DE, who require a quiet and clean home base.

The atmosphere at Woodlands is one of rustic charm and community spirit. Unlike highly commercialized "corporate" parks, this facility maintains a traditional camping feel where the focus is on nature and family togetherness. The resort is particularly known for its friendly seasonal community, but it remains a welcoming spot for transient campers looking for a weekend reprieve. Whether you are listening to the wind through the pines or participating in a community bingo night, the resort provides a professional environment that prioritizes the guest experience and the preservation of Maryland’s beautiful forest landscape.

Location and accessibility are standout features for visitors from across the Mid-Atlantic. Located at 265 Starkey Ln, Elkton, MD 21921, the resort is conveniently positioned near the upper Chesapeake Bay. It is easily accessible via major routes like US-40 and I-95, making it a short trip for residents of Cecil, Harford, and Baltimore counties. The campground is designed to be inclusive, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom facilities. While the resort provides a feeling of deep seclusion, it remains close to town and historic communities, offering the perfect balance between "getting away from it all" and having access to local dining and shopping.

Woodlands Camping Resort provides a comprehensive range of onsite services designed to make every stay comfortable and convenient. From basic tent sites to modern RV accommodations and rental cabins, the service options include:

  • RV Camping: Spacious wooded sites with various configurations, including full hook-up options (electric, water, and sewer) as well as 30 and 50 amp service.
  • Cabin Rentals: Comfortable rustic cabins equipped with electricity, air conditioning, and outdoor amenities like fire rings and charcoal grills.
  • Seasonal Site Program: Dedicated seasonal sites available from April through October for those looking for a permanent summer retreat.
  • Propane Services: Onsite filling of propane tanks to ensure your grill or heater never runs out.
  • Bathhouse Facilities: A 24-hour bathhouse featuring clean restrooms and hot showers for all guests.
  • Camp Store: A small supply store offering ice, RV accessories, and camping essentials.
  • Flexible Payment Options: Acceptance of credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments for all camping fees and purchases.

The features and highlights of Woodlands are what truly define it as a "resort" rather than just a place to park. The management and a volunteer recreation committee ensure that there is a wealth of activities for all ages. Highlights include:

  • Large Swimming Pool: A clean, expansive outdoor pool with a sunbathing deck, perfect for cooling off during Maryland's humid summers.
  • Fishing Pond: A picturesque pond where guests can enjoy fishing without needing a license (night crawlers and plastic lures only).
  • Playground and Kids' Activities: An immaculate children's park and a schedule of events including wagon hay rides and themed crafts.
  • Community Club House: The social hub of the park, hosting Saturday night bingo, poker runs, and even "disco" nights for adults.
  • Hiking and Biking Trails: Direct access to trails that meander through the surrounding Elk Neck State Forest, offering excellent opportunities for nature observation.
  • Veterans Circle: A dedicated memorial area maintained by veteran campers, featuring special services on Memorial Day to honor those who have served.
  • Sports Facilities: A basketball court, wiffleball field, and volleyball/badminton courts for active recreation.
  • Dog-Friendly Amenities: The park is pet-friendly, allowing dogs on leashes and providing plenty of scenic space for walks around the pond.

For those interested in booking a stay or learning more about seasonal availability, the office staff is known for being extremely helpful and friendly. Given its popularity during holidays and special event weekends, early reservations are highly encouraged.

What makes Woodlands Camping Resort worth choosing is the authentic, no-frills commitment to quality and family values. In an era where many campgrounds are becoming overpriced and overcrowded, Woodlands offers affordable rates where the money is clearly reinvested back into the park’s maintenance and activities. It is worth choosing because it provides a "pitch-black" night sky—a rare luxury for East Coast residents—allowing for spectacular stargazing and a level of peace that is hard to find elsewhere. The staff's genuine hospitality makes every visitor feel like part of the family, whether you are staying for two nights or two months.

Furthermore, the resort's location within the Elk Neck State Forest means you are literally surrounded by Maryland’s natural beauty, with quick access to the Elk River and the Chesapeake Bay for boating and waterfront dining. Choosing Woodlands means choosing a community that respects nature, honors veterans, and provides a safe, clean environment for children to explore. Whether you are looking for a quiet spot to stay while working in the area or a fun-filled weekend with hayrides and bingo, Woodlands Camping Resort offers the versatility and charm that makes it a standout choice in Cecil County.

We will definitely be back. We stayed here approximately two months (from October to December 2025) while working in Wilmington, DE. Park is quiet, peaceful, and clean. It is convenient to town and nearby historic communities. Our only complaints are not having laundry service on site and not having lights in the park. You have to walk with a flashlight — it’s pitch black.

We just stayed at Woodlands for the Labor day weekend and our whole family had a fantastic time. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The children's park is immaculate and the whole park is very well kept. There is a fishing pond and a club house that has a disco and bingo for the adults and wagon hay rides for the kids during the day. There are bags of ice available at the office, the rates are affordable and the money is clearly spent on the the park.

Reserved a site for 7/2-3 and paid for the site. Was on my way down to visit and do work for a cousin and I blew a tire on my camper and have to wait for tires to get installed for a couple of days as I live in Pennsylvania in a small town. The gentleman I spoke to was unwilling to reimburse me for the payment I made for the campsite. I stayed there this past weekend and paid for firewood and never used it and went to return it in the bag that it came in and they wouldn't reimburse for the firewood that I never used. So now I'm out $70 if not more due to circumstances I couldn't control. I would probably stay there again but will make a last minute reservation as that was a lot of money stolen from me as I live on a fixed income.

We've stayed here twice, we really love it. The location is nice since it's close to Elkton, state park etcThe only downfall is, if you're not a seasonal camper, you get shoved to the area that is not near a bathhouse. Just near disgusting porta potties. Since there's no direct hookup either, you're very limited.Otherwise very nice campground.
