Woodmen of the World Campground Lodge # 1 Introduce
Woodmen of the World Campground Lodge # 1 is a storied and unique outdoor destination situated in the heart of Washington County, Maryland. Owned and operated by a local branch of the venerable Woodmen of the World (now known as WoodmenLife), this campground serves as both a private fraternal retreat and a versatile public space for community gatherings, music festivals, and traditional camping. For residents of Maryland, particularly those in the Frederick and Hagerstown areas, it offers a distinct alternative to state parks, providing a "lodge" atmosphere that blends fraternal heritage with the rustic beauty of the Maryland countryside. The grounds are expansive, characterized by mature trees, open fields, and a collection of functional buildings that reflect its history as a central meeting point for members and their families.
For decades, this campground has been a cornerstone for local fraternal activity, but it has also gained a reputation as a "magical" venue for large-scale outdoor events. Most notably, the site has played host to grassroots music gatherings like the Bless the Woods Music Festival, which draws visitors from all over the Mid-Atlantic. The property’s ability to accommodate hundreds of people while maintaining a sense of secluded intimacy is one of its most defining characteristics. Whether you are visiting for a quiet weekend in a tent or attending a vibrant community celebration, the spirit of the Woodmen of the World—centered on protection, service, and fellowship—is evident in the way the space is organized to support communal living and shared experiences.
Located at 8334 Reichard Rd, Fairplay, MD 21733, the campground is easily accessible for Marylanders traveling via I-70 or I-81. It sits in a predominantly agricultural and residential region, providing a peaceful buffer from the nearby urban hubs. The entrance leads visitors down a scenic drive that opens into the heart of the lodge property. While the campground maintains a rustic and somewhat "unplugged" feel, its proximity to landmarks like the Antietam National Battlefield and the C&O Canal National Historical Park makes it a strategic base for those looking to explore the rich history of Western Maryland. The layout is designed to handle both individual campers and massive groups, with plenty of space for vehicle movement and temporary setups.

The services offered at Woodmen of the World Campground Lodge # 1 are focused on supporting group life and community-centric activities. Unlike commercial "glamping" resorts, the service model here is more traditional, emphasizing self-sufficiency and communal utility. The centerpiece of the facility is the lodge building itself, which often serves as a hub for dining and indoor activities. While the experience is primarily focused on the outdoors, the availability of these indoor spaces ensures that the camp can function effectively even during the unpredictable weather common to the Appalachian foothills.

The highlights of Woodmen of the World Campground Lodge # 1 are deeply rooted in its natural landscape and its capacity for social connection. The property features a mix of dense wooded areas that offer privacy and shade, and large grassy expanses that are perfect for field games, festivals, or group sports. For many visitors, the highlight is the sense of timelessness the property provides; it feels like a classic summer camp from a previous era, updated for modern use. The "magic" often described by visitors comes from the intersection of this historic atmosphere and the communal energy of the people who gather there.
- Expansive festival grounds that have become a legendary venue for local music and art festivals.
- A historic lodge atmosphere that provides a unique character compared to standard campgrounds.
- Scenic wooded trails and perimeters that are ideal for morning walks and nature observation.
- Dedicated space for large group fires and communal "fireside" discussions.
- Versatile indoor/outdoor cafeteria that can serve large crowds during events.

For those interested in booking the grounds for a private event, inquiring about lodge membership, or checking the schedule for upcoming public festivals, the management can be reached through the primary office line. It is recommended to call ahead for reservations, as the site is often blocked out for fraternal meetings or large-scale festivals that require the entire property.

Customer Reviews
A magical place. I first visited here in 2017 at Bless the Woods Music Festival. This is where I met my now fiance. Being here, experiencing the music festival here, meeting my soul mate, my life changed for the better from that first moment on those grounds. Forever grateful!
2nd time we've stayed here with our group. The first time wasn't bad at all the only issue was we were here for 4 days and they didn't open the cafeteria hall until late on the 2nd day, ruining food that had been bought before hand. This time is absolutely terrible. Not only did they double book, they gave the other group, who mostly have campers, the side with the bathroom. So now me, being pregnant, and countless others in a group of over 100, have to walk about a football field and a half to get to the restroom. On top of all that, they didn't even bother to have the grass cut.
I have been staying at the woodsmen for probly 15 years it has always been one of the best places to camp in its absolutely 1 of the cleanest places to camp love it and will always continue to go there. It is one of the best places for your family to camp.
Cleanest camp anywhere! Keep it that way!
Always love it there! Bless the Woods! Come on October! Beast Coast Reggae Fest!
