Yasgur Road Introduce
For outdoor enthusiasts and music history buffs living in the New York area, few names resonate as deeply as Yasgur. Located in the picturesque town of Bethel, New York, the Yasgur Road Campground offers a unique blend of rustic camping and significant cultural history. This isn't just another campground; it is situated on the original property once owned by Max Yasgur, the man who famously hosted the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Today, it operates as a welcoming destination for those who want to immerse themselves in the "laid-back retro energy" of the Catskills. Whether you are a local New Yorker looking for a weekend escape or a traveler seeking the roots of American music culture, this site provides a clean, well-maintained, and authentic outdoor experience that avoids the commercial feel of larger resort chains.
The atmosphere at Yasgur Road is defined by its "no hippie left behind" philosophy and an "old school hippie attitude" that prioritizes community and simplicity. Visitors often remark on the beautiful woods and the gorgeous landscape that makes for an ideal camping backdrop. It is a place that provides everything you need for a comfortable stay without unnecessary glamour, focusing instead on the natural beauty of Sullivan County and the hospitality of its staff. For those who value a friendly, professional, yet informal environment, talking to the owners feels like catching up with an old friend. The property serves as both a quiet retreat during non-festival weekends and a vibrant hub of activity during special events, making it a versatile choice for different types of campers.
Location and accessibility are major highlights for this historic site. Found at 34 Yasgur Rd, Bethel, NY 12720, the campground is perfectly positioned for those attending events at the nearby Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. It is situated just down the road from the famous concert venue, making it the premier choice for fans who want to catch a show and then retreat to a nearby tent or RV site rather than driving back to the city at night. From New York City, the drive is a manageable trip through the scenic Hudson Valley and into the rolling hills of the Catskills. The property is designed to be inclusive, offering features that ensure travelers with various needs can enjoy the grounds comfortably, including dedicated parking and accessible facilities.
The services offered at Yasgur Road are designed to accommodate both traditional tent campers and those traveling in modern recreational vehicles. The facility balances its historic roots with practical modern amenities, ensuring a safe and clean environment for all guests. The management maintains a high standard of cleanliness across the grounds, which is a point of praise for many returning visitors. To make the booking and arrival process easier for modern travelers, the campground accepts various forms of digital and card payments, moving away from the "cash-only" limitations often found in rural sites.

When deciding where to stay in the Sullivan County region, Yasgur Road is worth choosing because it offers an experience that money cannot buy elsewhere: a direct connection to American history. While other campgrounds might offer more "glamorous" amenities or modern resort-style features, they often lack the soul and character found here. It is worth choosing for the price and the "right feel"—an intangible quality that makes you feel like an old friend rather than just a customer. The "no one gets the email" attitude refers to the desire to unplug and truly engage with the surroundings and the people around you.
Furthermore, the campground is a fantastic choice for families. With kid-friendly hikes, a playground, and plenty of space for picnics, it serves as a great introduction to the outdoors for children. The fact that the woods are kept clean and the facilities are well-maintained ensures that even those who are not "hardcore" campers will feel comfortable. For the New York resident looking for a place that is factual, historic, and genuinely friendly, Yasgur Road remains a top-tier choice for camping and festivals. It represents the best of the Catskills' heritage, blending the natural beauty of the woods with a legendary legacy of music and peace.

“No hippie left behind”. “No one gets the email!” I loved the laid back retro energy at this beautiful place, and I really enjoyed talking to the owner who had a great sense of humor and old school hippie attitude. The woods were gorgeous for camping. The place was clean and well maintained. Stayed here for a Neil Young concert at Bethel Woods venue just down the road. Highly recommend! And it’s the REAL Yazgur’s farm!
We camped out here not on a festival weekend and it was perfect. When we rolled up sitting and talking to Jeryl was just like talking to an old friend. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. It’s not a glamorous place but the price and feel is right.
We booked a full hook-up site for 2 nights (concert weekend). We called to confirm that you could actually show up "after sunrise" to check-in and were told basically, yes...? We rolled in around 7:30am and no one really knew what was going on, why we were there, etc. But a few minutes later, Earl showed us where we could park and we were all good. The RV spots are not very level (we all seemed to have issues parking and setting up) and very close to each other. Luckily, the few campers there were spaced pretty far apart and we ended up with an amazing view of the mountains. There are a lot of full hook-up RV spots and I would imagine when they are mostly booked, it's a very tight squeeze with very close neighbors.Since no one was there to officially check us in when we arrived, we walked to the tent around noon to show all of our tickets (camping and shuttle for 2 people). They seemed genuinely annoyed by us. At one point, the woman just walked away from me and I had no idea what was going on. Turns out, she just went to go get her phone and we were, in fact, all done. K.The shuttle to and from the venue was great! We left on time, got dropped off right near the gate, and the bus was waiting for us right after the show was done. Great music, great vibes, and a wonderful driver! There is no store on site, most dogs are off leash, and people are there to party. These were not downsides for us, just something that is unlike other campgrounds.I can't wait to go back! Overall, it was a pretty awesome, unique experience...
A bit expensive to pitch a tent in a very roughly mowed field. Also forced to pitch tent very close to other tents while 80% of the field is unused is a bit ridiculous. However it is a pretty cool experience with the stage in the woods with a lot of talent.
Truly a beautiful historic location. The former home of Max Yasgur this campground is not a corporate experience but a family one. When you are greeted with welcome home you know that they mean it.
