Artillery Ridge Campground Gettysburg Horse Park Introduce

For those of us who live and breathe Pennsylvania history, there is no place quite like Gettysburg. While many visitors experience the hallowed grounds of the National Military Park from behind a car window, local campers and equestrian enthusiasts know there is a more immersive way to connect with this historic landscape. Artillery Ridge Campground & Horse Park, situated on the very grounds where the Union Artillery Reserve was stationed during the 1863 campaign, offers a camping experience that is deeply rooted in the American story. It is widely recognized as one of the most unique RV parks in the United States, serving as the only full-service horse camping facility in Gettysburg. Whether you are bringing your own mount to ride the battlefield trails or simply looking for a well-maintained home base for your family’s historic tour, Artillery Ridge provides a setting that is both educational and deeply relaxing.

The campground’s identity is defined by its dual role as a premier family resort and a world-class equestrian center. From the perspective of a local user, the appeal lies in the "location, location, location." Being tucked just two miles from the town center and within walking distance of some of the most significant monuments on the battlefield allows guests to bypass the congestion of tourist traffic. The atmosphere is one of respectful appreciation for the past, blended with the modern amenities that make a vacation comfortable. Under caring, family-run management, the park has seen continuous improvements, fostering a friendly community where history buffs, families with toddlers, and horse riders mingle around the campfire under the wide Pennsylvania sky.

Location and Accessibility

Located at 610 Taneytown Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325, Artillery Ridge Campground & Horse Park is strategically positioned at the heart of the action. It is approximately 1.5 miles from the National Military Park Museum and Visitors Center and within three miles of iconic landmarks such as Little Round Top, Cemetery Ridge, and the site of Pickett’s Charge. For those coming from the Harrisburg or York areas, the campground is easily accessible via US-15, providing a straightforward route for even the largest Class A motorhomes or multi-horse trailers. The entrance is well-marked, and the check-in process is designed to be seamless, with site tags often waiting for guests at the entrance booth upon arrival.

Accessibility is a priority across the 400-site property. The campground features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom facilities, ensuring that every guest can enjoy the historic setting regardless of mobility needs. The sites are generally level and easy to navigate, with wide roads that accommodate big rigs and long trailers. For those traveling with horses, the facility is specifically designed to handle large equestrian rigs, offering plenty of space for maneuvering and parking near the stable areas. This commitment to accessibility ensures that the "hallowed ground" of Gettysburg remains open and enjoyable for all members of the Commonwealth’s community.

What is Worth Choosing

Artillery Ridge Campground & Horse Park is worth choosing primarily for its unparalleled connection to the history of Gettysburg. There is a profound sense of place that comes with sleeping on the same grounds where Union artillerymen once stood ready to defend the line. For equestrian travelers, it is the only logical choice in the area; the ability to ride your own horse directly from your campsite to the battlefield trails is a privilege you won't find anywhere else. The convenience of the National Riding Stables on-site also means that even if you don't own a horse, you can still participate in the age-old tradition of a "Staff Ride" to see the battlefield from a mount’s perspective.

Beyond the history and horses, the campground is worth choosing for its family-focused atmosphere and excellent customer service. The staff is known for going "above and beyond"—even helping guests find space at sister properties if they can’t be accommodated on-site. The inclusion of free amenities like mini-golf and the catch-and-release pond means that families on a budget can still provide a full weekend of entertainment for their children without leaving the park. Whether you are here for the 163rd anniversary of the battle or just a quiet spring weekend, choosing Artillery Ridge means choosing a professional, well-maintained, and deeply meaningful Pennsylvania experience. It is more than just a place to stay; it is a gateway to the heritage of our state and our nation.

Would you like me to find out more about the 2026 themed weekend schedule or perhaps provide a list of the specific battlefield trails accessible directly from the campground horse park?

Artillery Ridge Campground is located on Taneytown Rd. about 2 miles from the town of Gettysburg and 1.5 miles from the National Military Park Museum. Other points of interest from the campground are Little Round Top (1 mile), Cemetery Ridge (1 mile), Pickett’s Charge (3 miles), and the Eisenhower National Historic Site (3 miles). We stayed 6 nights (Sun to Sat) in our MB Sprinter Class B camper. Reservations were made online, check-in was easy (our tag, etc. was available at the booth at the camp entrance) and the site was easy to find. The campground is clean, sites are reasonably priced and offer water, electrical and sewer connection. A dump station near the campground office is available if a sewer connection is not needed at the camp site. The bathrooms are clean and the showers offer plenty of hot water. Firewood is available at a vending machine for $9/bundle and is clean and dry.A pleasant surprise was the Chameleon 1360 Grill food-truck on Friday night. The burgers and fries were good and reasonably priced.Overall, highly recommended for RVers visiting Gettysburg.

I want to express my gratitude to Amanda for all her assistance with my reservation. I found Artillery campground in the Good Sam’s guide and made the reservation based on that, Amanda told me the this campground doesn’t participate in good Sams discounts, but that the sister campground Gettysburg campground does. She canceled my reservation with the artillery campground and rescheduled me to Gettysburg campground so that I could receive the good Sam’s discount. She went above and beyond what I believe she should’ve done and I really appreciate it.

Artillery Ridge is the most family friendly campground we've ever been to! Soo much to do and very close to Gettysburg and only a mile from the battlefield. The sites are pretty close to each other, but we made it work. We'll definitely come back again!

Not a good start, received a call in the morning, switching us to a different site due to a water leak. Then after setting up, the water was turned off. The next day the water was turned off again. Some notice to allow us to fill the freshwater tank would have made it a non issue. But it is a nice campground. Some of the spots seem small. But the pool is great and lots of room to check out the pond, stables and new mini golf course. Plenty to do in the area as well. Food truck was a nice surprise.
