Benchmark Hideaway Campground Introduce
For New Yorkers looking to escape the relentless pace of city life, Benchmark Hideaway Campground offers a tranquil sanctuary tucked into the verdant landscapes of Bloomingburg. Formerly known as Berentsen's Campground, this destination has undergone significant transitions under new ownership to become a modern, four-season camping resort while retaining its rustic charm. Located in the beautiful Catskill Mountains region, it provides a "home away from home" atmosphere where the primary soundtrack is the rustle of leaves and the gentle flow of nearby streams. For local residents, it serves as an accessible retreat that feels worlds away from the urban sprawl of the five boroughs or the busy suburbs of the Hudson Valley.
The campground is defined by its commitment to a relaxing, family-oriented environment. Managed by hosts who are frequently described as welcoming and hands-on, the park has become a favorite for both seasonal campers and weekend visitors. Whether you are looking for a secluded spot to pitch a tent or a full-service site for your new RV, Benchmark Hideaway emphasizes spaciousness and privacy. Unlike more crowded, commercialized "resort" parks, this hidden gem prioritizes the natural beauty of Sullivan County, offering large sites surrounded by mature trees that ensure you aren't just parked right next to your neighbor.
Location is one of the strongest selling points for Benchmark Hideaway Campground. Situated at 266 Roosa Gap Road in Bloomingburg, NY, it is strategically positioned for easy accessibility from major New York thoroughfares. For travelers coming from New York City or northern New Jersey, the drive is a manageable 90 minutes to two hours, making it a perfect candidate for a Friday afternoon getaway. Its proximity to the town of Middletown and the village of Wurtsboro means that while you are deep in the woods, essential supplies and local dining are only a short drive away.
The campground's location is also a major draw for families visiting regional attractions. Most notably, it is located approximately 20 minutes from Legoland New York Resort in Goshen, offering a peaceful and affordable alternative to crowded hotels. Additionally, the surrounding Shawangunk Ridge provides world-class opportunities for those looking to explore scenic overlooks or engage in more rigorous outdoor adventures. Within the park, accessibility is addressed with on-site parking at each site and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot at the main office area, ensuring all guests can easily transition from their vehicles to their forest retreat.
Benchmark Hideaway Campground provides a comprehensive range of services designed to make the camping experience as smooth as possible for both novices and experts. The management is known for going the extra mile—even assisting new owners with parking their campers for the first time. Choosing Benchmark Hideaway Campground is worth it for those who value a balance between convenience and genuine relaxation. For New Yorkers, the value lies in the "hideaway" aspect—the ability to be in a quiet, wooded site by a stream within a couple of hours of leaving the city. The spaciousness of the sites is a significant advantage over other regional campgrounds where units are often packed tightly together. Here, you have the room to set up a full camp, light a fire, and feel like you actually have your own private piece of the Catskills.
Furthermore, the ongoing improvements and the friendly, helpful nature of the management make it an excellent choice for first-time RV owners or families with small children. The fact that activities like mini-golf and basketball are included in the base price makes it a budget-friendly option for local families. Whether you are using it as a quiet base for a Legoland adventure or as your primary destination for a weekend of ping-pong and campfires, Benchmark Hideaway stands out as a welcoming, clean, and truly relaxing escape for New York travelers. It is a place where seasonal campers are quick to say hello and where the owners treat you like neighbors, ensuring your visit is the first of many.

Customer Reviews
The family and I stayed there this past weekend in a group site. The site was by the stream surrounded by trees, spacious and clean. We loved that the site wasn’t right next to others. As far as activities goes there isn’t much planned but they do have a play ground which my young ones loved. A ping pong table and a basketball hoop. The coffee and breakfast sandwiches we bought on Saturday morning were both really good. The location is great to Legoland (about 20 min). The bathroom and shower could use a little TLC but we didn’t mind since they were clean and the water was warm. Grant (I think he might be the owner) was very nice. All the other campers (a lot seemed like they’re seasonal) said hello and were friendly. We’ve added Benchmark to our visit again list. Thank you to everyone there for such a great weekend. We can’t wait to be back this is truly a relaxing place plus it’s close to the city.
Great owners! Parked our camper for us the first night because we had just bought it an hour before! They’re really doing a lot of improvements too. So much to do that’s included in costs - mini golf, swimming, basketball, ping pong, horseshoes and more. We will be back.
Great people, clean place and entainments every weekend.
Stayed at Benchmark for one night after picking up my trailer at a dealership down the road. The park was sold out but the staff accommodated me into a tent site. The staff was beyond friendly, accommodating and helpful. The park itself is beautiful and very wooded. The sites are good size as well. I met a ton of friendly people. The only negative I can think of is that there are not a lot of sites available for non-seasonal campers. The owner (Grant) and his son-in law were very nice and do a great job of maintaining the premises.I highly recommend this park.
Wonderful campground and the owners were so friendly and helpful right from the start with the phone call to Samantha. When I started to set up my tent, I realized I did not have my tent poles. I called and spoke with Samantha's husband. They quickly brought me their own personal tent to use.Very nice owners and worth even one night’s stay.
