Caffrey Recreation Area Introduce
For outdoor enthusiasts in Pennsylvania, Lake Wallenpaupack stands as one of the state's most treasured gems, offering 5,700 acres of freshwater beauty and over 52 miles of shoreline. At the heart of this aquatic paradise lies the Caffrey Recreation Area, a versatile destination that serves as a vital hub for boaters, campers, and families seeking a classic Poconos escape. Known for its intimate atmosphere and direct lake access, Caffrey is the smallest of the five recreation areas managed on the lake, which often translates to a more community-focused and tranquil environment for its visitors. Whether you are looking to spend a week under the stars or just a few hours on the water, this Lakeville-based facility provides the essential amenities needed for a successful outdoor adventure.
Caffrey Recreation Area is more than just a place to park an RV; it is a comprehensive recreational complex that caters to the diverse needs of Pennsylvania's outdoor community. The area is highly regarded for its dual identity as a premier campground and a functional marina. From the early morning hours when the mist still sits on the lake to the golden sunsets that the region is famous for, Caffrey offers a front-row seat to the natural splendor of Wayne and Pike counties. For locals who have been visiting the "Pack" for generations, Caffrey represents a consistent and reliable gateway to the water, maintained with a level of care that ensures families feel safe and comfortable regardless of the time of day or night.
Location and accessibility are two of the strongest selling points for Caffrey Recreation Area. Situated at 431 Lakeshore Drive in Lakeville, PA 18438, the park is conveniently located on the western shore of Lake Wallenpaupack. For residents of nearby Scranton, the drive is a manageable 30 to 40 minutes, while those coming from the Lehigh Valley or the Philadelphia suburbs can reach the grounds in approximately two hours. The facility is easily found off Route 590, making it a straightforward destination for those towing large trailers or boats. The property itself is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances and a dedicated parking lot to ensure that every member of the family can participate in the fun.
The services offered at Caffrey Recreation Area are comprehensive, designed to provide a self-contained experience for both day-trippers and long-term campers. Because the area includes a functional boat launch and a general store, it often serves as a "one-stop shop" for those heading out onto the lake. The staff is frequently praised by real customers for being helpful and dedicated to maintaining a clean, professional environment. Key services available at this location include:
- Full-service campground management for both RV and tent camping sites, including reservation assistance and site maintenance.

What is worth choosing about Caffrey Recreation Area is its perfect balance of functionality and scenery. For many Pennsylvania boaters, the $10 launch fee (subject to seasonal changes) is considered a great value for the quality of the ramp and the cleanliness of the surrounding facilities. Choosing Caffrey means you are opting for a "smaller" experience compared to the larger, more commercialized recreation areas, which allows for better service and a quieter night's sleep. The reputation of Lake Wallenpaupack as a helpful community is reflected here, where fellow boaters and staff members are known to look out for one another.
Furthermore, the location is worth selecting because of its strategic position on the lake. Being on the western shore means you are close to many of the lake's best amenities, including nearby restaurants like Capri and the Wallenpaupack Lake Trail. For the local Pennsylvania user, Caffrey offers an authentic Pocono experience that emphasizes the beauty of the lake and the importance of family time. Whether you are teaching your kids how to fish from the dock or spending an afternoon exploring the coves on a pontoon, Caffrey Recreation Area provides the safe, clean, and professional environment needed to make those memories last a lifetime. In a region with many choices, the consistent positive feedback regarding the helpfulness of the staff and the safety of the lake makes Caffrey a top-tier recommendation for your next Pennsylvania camping or boating trip.

What a beautiful dark to keep your boat stored in. Very well taken care of and clean and I always feel comfortable coming here no matter what day or night time it is. Lake Wallenpaupack is an amazing family place to come bring your kids were a bunch of friends to come out on the boat and have a great time. Everybody is so very helpful of each other and cautious of every boat around. I have always felt safe and confident out on this lake that if I ever had a problem someone would be there right at my side to help me.
Very busy with some unfriendly people. The shore is pretty dirty. However the lake is still beautiful.
I have been coming to caffrey campsite since I was born. It's was great time. When I became adult I started coming with my own family. However it's stated off great as we had rented a seasonally campsite then we couldn't use it all the time, so we started renting campsite on holiday weekends. The ownship changed and things started changing. We came with strictly family and would stay up sitting by the fire. The employee started coming down and complaining we were making to much noise at midnight, another camper had complained about there child sleeping. We had five children under the under of five all sleeping, none of which were awake. These campsite had been nothing but problems since they changed owners or employees. We paid for two sites with boats and jetskis. We spent thousands of dollars with this place of the years. However now it been nothing but problems. We couldn't laugh by a fire because they said we were to loud. This use to be a place to come have a drink and sit by a fire. We could relax and spent the day on the water. Now however it's became a place, where you have to be sleep by 10 or 11. You can't laugh or enjoy yourself no matter what money your are spending. I'm a veteran myself, I came up on a holiday weekend to enjoy it and it got ruined for no reason. After 30 years of coming here spending thousands of dollars, I no longer will be coming here. Also I will continue to tell everyone how terrible this place has become.
Used the boat launch many times. On busy days it's well worth the $8 fee, compared to dealing with the nonsense at the state launch. Nice little store, boat launch well kept, bathrooms decent
Place needs upgrades. Power constantly goes out on busy weekends (100amp service for how many slips?!), tight spots, cant use golf carts anymore due to an ignorant neighbor's complaints, the list goes on. Time to invest in the place
