Camp Ponagansett Introduce

For Rhode Islanders looking to trade the bustle of the city for a season of tranquility, Camp Ponagansett offers a rare opportunity to settle into the heart of the Ocean State’s rural landscape. Nestled in the historic and wooded town of North Scituate, this privately-owned campground serves as a serene sanctuary for those who appreciate the slower pace of the "Quiet Corner" of Rhode Island. Known among locals as one of the state's best-kept secrets, Camp Ponagansett is not a typical overnight stop-off; rather, it is a dedicated seasonal community that fosters long-term connections among its residents, particularly catering to elderly and retired campers who seek a stable and peaceful summer home.

The atmosphere at Camp Ponagansett is defined by its pastoral charm and the friendly, tight-knit nature of its community. Operating primarily as a live-in seasonal park from mid-April through mid-October, it provides a unique lifestyle where neighbors become friends over the course of the summer. The park is designed to offer a "back-to-basics" feel while ensuring that all the comforts of modern RV living are met. Surrounded by the dense forests and rolling hills of western Rhode Island, it serves as an ideal home base for those who want to wake up to the sound of birds and spend their afternoons enjoying the fresh air of the Scituate countryside.

Conveniently located at 100 Rustic Hill Rd, North Scituate, RI 02857, Camp Ponagansett is exceptionally accessible for residents across the state. Despite its secluded, wooded feel, it is only a short drive from major Rhode Island thoroughfares such as Route 6 and Route 102. This allows residents to enjoy the feeling of total isolation while remaining just 20 to 30 minutes away from the amenities of Providence or the shopping districts of Johnston and Smithfield. The drive to the campground itself is a scenic journey through some of the most beautiful rural corridors in the state, passing by historic stone walls and local reservoirs.

Accessibility within the park is a priority, especially given its focus on retired and senior campers. The campground features a wheelchair-accessible parking lot and flat, well-maintained common areas to ensure that all residents can navigate the property comfortably. On-site parking is available for residents and their guests, and the layout of the 40 specialized sites is designed to allow for easy maneuvering of trailers and RVs. The entrance on Rustic Hill Road is clearly marked, leading visitors into a well-ordered environment that prioritizes safety and ease of access for all ages.

The services at Camp Ponagansett are tailored specifically for the needs of seasonal RV living. Because the park operates on a prepaid seasonal rent basis, the services provided are robust and reliable, ensuring that residents have everything they need for a comfortable six-month stay. The management takes pride in maintaining a high standard of utility provision, acknowledging that for their residents, these campers are truly their summer homes. From essential hookups to recreational facilities, the service model is built on convenience and reliability.

  • Full-service RV camping sites equipped with dedicated water and sewer hookups for long-term stays.
  • Reliable 30/50-amp electrical hookups at each site to power modern RV appliances and climate control systems.
  • Access to clean, well-maintained public restrooms and hot showering facilities for all residents.
  • Seasonal site management that includes groundskeeping and maintenance of common recreation areas.
  • Provision of picnic tables and fireplaces at individual sites to facilitate traditional outdoor living.
  • Recreation hall services that provide a space for community gatherings and social events throughout the season.

The features and highlights of Camp Ponagansett extend beyond the basic requirements of a campground. The property is equipped with various recreational amenities that encourage an active and social lifestyle. Whether you are interested in a morning swim or a friendly match on the court, the park provides facilities that are often missing from smaller, private campgrounds. These highlights contribute to the park's reputation as a "best-kept secret," offering a resort-style feel within a humble, pastoral setting.

  • A private swimming pool on the property, providing a perfect way to cool off during the humid Rhode Island summers.
  • Sports facilities including a tennis court and a ball field for active residents and visiting grandchildren.
  • A spacious recreation hall that serves as the heart of the community for potlucks, games, and meetings.
  • A dog-friendly policy that allows residents to bring their dogs, provided they are kept on a leash and managed responsibly.
  • Large, well-spaced sites that offer a balance of community proximity and individual privacy.
  • Close proximity to the North Scituate Reservoir and various local hiking trails for nature enthusiasts.

For those interested in joining the community at Camp Ponagansett, it is important to note that sites are typically handled on a seasonal basis, often requiring advance notice and prepaid arrangements. The management can be reached for inquiries regarding availability for the upcoming season or to schedule a visit to view the grounds.
