Oakleaf Family Campground Introduce
Oakleaf Family Campground is a cherished outdoor destination nestled in the tranquil woods of Chepachet, Rhode Island. For residents of the Ocean State, this family-owned and operated facility has been a staple of the local camping scene since 1971. Situated in the town of Glocester, the campground offers a genuine retreat from the fast-paced energy of urban life, providing a space where families can reconnect with nature. Whether you are an experienced RVer or a first-time camper looking for a supportive environment, Oakleaf focuses on providing a peaceful, clean, and well-cared-for atmosphere that emphasizes the simple joys of the New England wilderness.
The spirit of Oakleaf is defined by its commitment to community and personal service. Current owners, like Kim and her dedicated team, are known for their warm and attentive presence, often going out of their way to ensure new campers feel empowered and comfortable. The campground spans a beautiful wooded area with large sites that provide a sense of privacy while still fostering a neighborhood feel. It is a place where "regular" campers and seasonal guests often form lasting friendships, creating a welcoming environment that gradually turns strangers into familiar faces. For local Rhode Islanders, it serves as a reliable sanctuary that feels far away yet remains conveniently located within the state's borders.
Location and accessibility are major benefits for those choosing Oakleaf Family Campground. Located at 43 Oak Leaf Way, Chepachet, RI 02814, the park is tucked into the scenic Blackstone Valley region. For residents coming from Providence, the drive is a manageable 25-minute trip, while those in neighboring Connecticut or Massachusetts can reach the grounds in under 40 minutes. The campground is designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible parking lots, and modified restroom facilities. While the terrain is naturally wooded with sand and stone sites, the main infrastructure is designed to accommodate various vehicle types, from small pop-up trailers to larger RVs up to 35 feet.
The surrounding Glocester area enhances the camping experience with its rich natural resources. The campground provides easy access to numerous lakes, prime fishing spots, and expansive hiking trails, including proximity to the North-South Trail. For those who want to venture slightly further, the region is home to antique shopping, golf courses, and local restaurants. The accessibility of the site makes it an ideal base for "staycations" where locals can enjoy the benefits of a getaway without the long-distance travel, allowing more time to be spent by the campfire or at the pool.

What is worth choosing when considering Oakleaf Family Campground is the opportunity for a truly grounding and empowering experience. For first-time campers or solo parents, the supportive nature of the staff makes it an ideal place to learn the ropes and build confidence in the outdoors. The park’s focus on community outreach and charity fundraising also speaks to its character, as it is a business that cares deeply about its Rhode Island roots. Customer Reviews
Far from the hustle and bustle, this is a true retreat area. Nice and quiet. Very friendly owners. They have some family activities on certain weekends. Price is reasonable. However, the site is not at all level. Parking on sand and stone. 30 amps, no 50 amps available. Water pressure is just a trickle. I had to fill up my tank and use the onboard water pump but it took 2 hours to fill my tank. No sewer at sites. And the one dump station is in an awkward position. Wifi can work well at times, but often goes out, almost as if resetting.I really like the location. Lots of potential here. They need to invest in a bit better infrastructure.
I arrived at Oakleaf Family Campground on Sunday with my two boys, one 4 months old, the other 13 years, and it’s been such a beautiful, grounding experience since day one. As a first-time camper on my own with no other adult, I was definitely feeling anxious and unsure about what to expect. But that uncertainty has gradually been replaced with calm, confidence. From the beginning, Kim stood out as someone genuinely dedicated to this campground. She’s not only warm and attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable. She’s taken the time to answer every question I’ve had (and I’ve had quite a few!), and she’s been a quiet but steady presence throughout our stay. Her care for the grounds and the people here is evident in everything she does. The campground itself is truly beautiful, peaceful, clean, and well cared for, with a relaxed, easygoing atmosphere that’s helped me settle in. The other campers, many of whom seem to be regulars, did make me feel a little self-conscious at first. There were some curious glances that made me feel like the “new kid,” but after a few days, those walls began to come down. People have become friendlier and more open, and I do feel welcomed now.One of the highlights of our stay has been the large two-bedroom, two-bath RV we rented. It’s incredibly clean, well-kept, and thoughtfully stocked, you don’t need to bring anything to cook with, which was a big relief. The full kitchen setup made meals easy and stress-free. A heads-up: the mattresses aren’t the most comfortable, so I’d recommend bringing a mattress topper if you’re staying more than a night or two. That said, having air conditioning inside was a huge plus during these warm summer nights. My 13-year-old especially loves the pool and game room, they’ve both been great ways for him to unwind and meet other kids. The campground is also dog-friendly, which is something I really appreciate. It’s clear the staff here love animals and make space for them to be part of the fun. What I appreciate most is how empowering this experience has been. What started as an intimidating trip has turned into something I’m really proud of. I’ve learned a lot, from Kim, from the environment, and from simply doing it, and I feel more confident than ever about camping again in the future. We’re here until Sunday, and so far it’s been a really special time. I’ll be sure to update with our full experience & photos/videos once we wrap up our stay. For now, I just want to say thank you to Kim and everyone at Oakleaf for helping make our first solo camping trip feel not only manageable, but memorable.
I didn't know how to rate rooms lol it's a camp ground lol 😆. But friendly stall beautiful area of the state well kept ground clean bathrooms . Owners seem to be dedicated to improving the place and that's great 👍
We recently spent a weekend here-Ray helped us get to our site. The sites are a decent size-water and electric. No sewer but there is a dump station. It’s nice that they really enforce the speed limit! The later checkout,2:00 is great-no rushing on a Sunday morning! It’s a nice quiet campground. We will return.
The campgrounds are nicely tucked away from any noise , staff is super friendly and accommodating. They really go above and beyond and I certainly plan on coming back!!
