When deciding on a campground in the Pennsylvania area, Camp Thompson is worth choosing specifically for its commitment to the "unplugged" lifestyle. It is a destination where the absence of "fancy bells and whistles" is considered a primary feature rather than a drawback. It is the ideal choice for parents who want their children to grow up with a tangible connection to the earth, away from screens and mobile devices. The camp provides a safe, controlled environment where the primary entertainment is the wind in the trees and the crackle of a fire.

Furthermore, the camp's affiliation with local organizations like the YMCA adds a layer of trust and reliability for Pennsylvania families. While the experience is primitive and nature-focused, the presence of onsite restrooms and accessible parking makes it a practical choice for those who are not ready for a completely "wild" camping experience. The spaciousness of the site and the variety of terrain make it a versatile location for everything from quiet reflection to high-energy group games. If you are looking for a place where memories are made through simple actions—like practicing a skit for the campfire or playing in a sand court—Camp Thompson stands as a premier local choice.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own sports equipment, such as volleyballs, to ensure they can fully utilize the athletic facilities during their stay. It is also wise to check the schedule for Friday night campfires and patches, as these are highlights of the week for many young campers. By choosing Camp Thompson, you are supporting a local institution that has long served as a gateway to the Pennsylvania outdoors, helping new generations discover the timeless joy of living simply in the heart of nature.

It's a good old fashioned camp experience with a high emphasis in nature. There are no fancy bells and whistles here so my baby got to really explore, play and be in the woods. It's exactly what I want in this high tech world. I don't want her growing up without it and this camp did not disappoint.

My 11y old went for first time & really liked it. Her bff did not, but camps not for everyone. Almost all of their cabin left before/after patches so they couldnt do skit they'd practiced so we ended up leaving before campfire. I wonder if they shift a half hour earlier if more kids would stay longer that friday nite? One other minus - there was a sand volleyball court but no ball all week! The Carlisle YMCA couldnt manage extra volleyballs?!? That didnt make any sense.
