Covered Bridge Campsite Introduce

For those seeking a true escape into the natural splendor of the Western Catskills, Covered Bridge Campsite in Livingston Manor, New York, serves as a premier destination. This picturesque campground and RV park is nestled on nearly 26 acres of lush, wooded landscape, bordered by the expansive 500-acre Catskill Forest Preserve. As a local favorite for generations, the campsite is defined by its nearly mile-long frontage on the world-famous Willowemoc Creek, known globally as the birthplace of American fly fishing. Whether you are a seasoned angler or a family looking to introduce your children to the wonders of the Great Outdoors, this location offers a serene and authentic New York camping experience.

Covered Bridge Campsite strikes a unique balance between rustic charm and modern accessibility. The namesake wooden covered bridge, built in 1860, serves as a historic centerpiece that welcomes guests into a time-honored tradition of riverside living. From the sound of the flowing water to the rustle of the surrounding pine forests, the environment is designed for those who want to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature. While the property has seen updates under new ownership, it remains dedicated to maintaining the peaceful, family-oriented atmosphere that has made it a staple of Sullivan County for decades.

The location of Covered Bridge Campsite is one of its most compelling attributes. Situated at 68 Conklin Hill Rd, Livingston Manor, NY 12758, it is approximately a two-hour drive from New York City, making it an ideal weekend getaway for urbanites. The route involves a scenic drive through the rolling hills of the Catskills, leading you directly to the tranquil banks of the Willowemoc. Despite its secluded feel, the campground is less than 15 minutes away from the vibrant village of Livingston Manor.

Livingston Manor has become a bustling destination in its own right, offering guests access to boutique shops, local breweries such as Catskill Brewery, and high-quality dining options like The Kaatskeller. This proximity allows campers to enjoy the "off-the-grid" sensation of the woods without sacrificing the convenience of nearby amenities. Accessibility within the park itself is carefully managed; while some tent sites offer the ultimate in primitive seclusion, many RV and trailer sites are designed for easy back-in access, ensuring a smooth setup for your stay.

Covered Bridge Campsite provides a comprehensive suite of services tailored to meet the needs of diverse campers, from those in luxury RVs to those pitching a simple tent. The staff focuses on maintaining a clean and orderly environment, ensuring that the natural beauty of the site remains the main attraction. The following services are currently offered:

  • RV camping with dedicated 20, 30, or 50-amp electrical hookups and water access.
  • A variety of tenting options including creekfront, off-creek, and secluded primitive sites.
  • Glamping opportunities in elegant Jupe tents and a modern A-Frame cabin for those who prefer more comfort.
  • Sanitation services including clean restrooms, free hot showers, and a convenient trailer dump station.
  • A well-stocked camp store offering ice, seasoned hardwood firewood, and essential supplies.
  • Professional check-in and communication services, providing guests with detailed information regarding local rules and state firewood regulations.
  • Dedicated on-site parking for vehicles, ensuring gear is easily accessible from your designated site.

The highlights of this campsite are deeply rooted in its geography and the recreational opportunities it provides. It is a haven for active families and nature enthusiasts who enjoy the specific rhythms of the Catskill Mountains. Key features include:

  • Nearly a mile of direct frontage on Willowemoc Creek, providing world-class fly fishing for brown and brook trout.
  • Family-friendly hiking trails, including a path leading to a breathtaking 20-foot waterfall just steps from the property.
  • Picnic areas equipped with tables and grills, perfect for enjoying a meal in the fresh mountain air.
  • A dog-friendly policy that welcomes furry family members to join the adventure on the grounds.
  • Proximity to the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, allowing guests to delve into the local history of the sport.

Choosing the right campground is often a matter of priorities, and Covered Bridge Campsite is worth choosing if you value a quiet, structured, and nature-first environment. Unlike "party parks," this facility is managed with a firm commitment to tranquility. This is the ideal choice for parents who want "kid-friendly" to mean safe, quiet, and educational, or for anglers who want to wake up and step directly into one of the best trout streams in the country. The presence of professional management ensures that rules regarding noise and cleanliness are upheld, protecting the integrity of your vacation.

Furthermore, the diversity of lodging—from the vintage charm of the area to the new modern A-Frame cabin—means that you can customize your level of "roughing it." The fact that it is surrounded by the Catskill Forest Preserve ensures that your views will remain unobstructed by development, providing a genuine sense of being deep in the wilderness. For New Yorkers looking for a reliable, clean, and scenic home base in the Catskills, Covered Bridge Campsite offers the perfect blend of historical atmosphere and modern outdoor recreation. It is a place where you can truly trade the sound of sirens for the sound of the river, making every penny of the camping fee a worthwhile investment in your peace of mind.

I would not recommend Covered Bridge Camping to anyone looking for a relaxing or enjoyable camping experience. This was by far the worst campsite I’ve ever stayed at, entirely due to the couple who owns and operates it.From the start, they were cold, unwelcoming, and extremely rude. They seem to have no tolerance for any kind of sound — and I mean any. We weren’t blasting music or partying. We were simply talking, laughing, and playing soft background music, and even that was met with immediate complaints and aggressive behavior from the owners.Camping is supposed to be fun — a chance to unwind, socialize, and enjoy nature. But here, it felt like we were walking on eggshells the entire time. The owners constantly patrolled the area, ready to scold guests for the slightest noise. It was tense, uncomfortable, and honestly, not worth the money. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway where you're treated with respect and allowed to simply enjoy yourself, look elsewhere. This place clearly doesn’t want happy campers — just silence.

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about the Covered Bridge Campsite. My experience here was easily the worst I’ve had at any campground – and entirely due to the behavior of the owner. From the moment we arrived, the owner was confrontational and unwelcoming. Instead of offering any form of hospitality, we were met with attitude, micromanagement, and constant surveillance. It felt less like a vacation and more like being monitored at every turn. Any minor action, from parking to setting up, was met with passive-aggressive comments or outright hostility.Worse yet, the owner’s behavior crossed the line into harassment. There was no sense of respect or professionalism – just an ongoing power trip that made our stay deeply uncomfortable. We weren’t the only ones either; several other campers mentioned similar experiences during our stay. The location itself might have potential, but none of that matters when the environment is so toxic. A campsite should be a place to relax and enjoy nature, not a place where you're made to feel unwelcome and on edge.I strongly urge others to look elsewhere. Until there's a serious change in management or attitude, Covered Bridge Campsite is not worth your time, money, or peace of mind.

First off let me say that the owners of this campground are some of the nicest people I’ve met. So kind and friendly and extremely accommodating. The sites are spacious and stunning and the bathrooms are newly renovated. My fiancé and I had the best time and we are already planning a trip back! Highly highly recommend!

Worst campsite we’ve ever been to. Admins were rude and nasty especially the tall lady wearing gothic clothes and high heels in the middle of the wild. Any type of music is not allowed at all. You’re also not allowed to laugh or make any type of sound. You’re supposed to be just whispering at each other as the admin does not like to hear anything at all. I definitely do not recommend this camp as you will be harassed daily by the admins.
