When considering where to pitch your tent or park your RV in Upstate New York, Hill Top Camping Area is worth choosing for its exceptional balance of recreation and relaxation. One of the standout reasons to visit is the social yet peaceful environment. Unlike more commercialized private parks, Hill Top maintains the integrity of the state park system, offering wide-open spaces and high-quality natural features like the small but stunningly clear lake. For families, it is an unbeatable choice; the combination of a playground, kid-friendly trails, and the unique family events ensures that children are never bored while parents can enjoy the quiet of the woods.

Additionally, the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities are a major draw. The campground is also an excellent choice for those who value community; the "same-plane" layout of the sites encourages a neighborly feel where you can swap stories with fellow travelers while still having your own designated space. Choosing Hill Top means choosing a place where you can be as active as you want—hiking for miles or kayaking on the lake—or as still as you want, simply enjoying the breeze through the hemlocks. In terms of activities, this is a GREAT place to be, they have this family Olympics event that's really low-key, not cut- throat competitive, and lots of fun. The lake, though small, is beautiful and really clear. The trails around the lake are quite nice as well.Camping-wise, the bathroom we were near, while very clean, didn't have showers or a place to wash dishes. We were only there two nights, so the shower thing wasn't a deal-breaker, and the other bathroom where you could wash dishes wasn't too far away. But perhaps the thing i didn't care for the most at the site was that there was no real privacy between one site and the next. They were all on the same plane, and it felt like everyone was all in the same site. Yes, I like socializing a little while camping, but I prefer the downtime where I don't have the distraction of other people being right there.

Our family enjoys cabining at GLSP, but we always spend some time up in Hilltop area to use the showers, and also to get a little bit of Verizon cell service, when the planets are aligning correctly. The sites are nice sized, as with most state parks, and quite a lot of mature trees and shade, as well. Nice area, with hiking trails that connect up here, as well as down lower. A bit more of a hike to the beach than the cabins are, but overall a nice place to spend time. :)

Camping was good , facilities were best of any park we've been to this year and We have been to several , very clean . I do think there is a safety issue at the park , when coming from the beach there is no stop sign entering the main road and there is no stop sign heading to the hill top sites which is a collision waiting to happen , the sign coming from hilltop should be placed coming from the beach area before entering main road. Just saying.

Very nice!! The staff were very accommodating and very pleasant to talk to. I also like the fact that the rangers walked around the park on foot. So you could interact with them.
