Indianfield Co-Op Campground Introduce

For Connecticut families seeking a dedicated summer retreat, Indianfield Co-Op Campground serves as a cherished "home away from home" in the quiet countryside of Salem. Operating as a cooperative community for over 35 years, this unique campground offers a stable and secure environment where residents don't just visit—they belong. Situated on the beautiful shores of Gardner Lake, the property is designed specifically for those who value the consistency of seasonal camping. For local residents from Hartford to New London, Indianfield provides the perfect escape from the daily grind without the need for a long-distance haul, allowing for more time spent by the water and less time on the road.

The spirit of Indianfield is rooted in community and family traditions. Unlike transient parks that cater to short-term travelers, this co-operative focuses on seasonal owners and renters, fostering a tight-knit neighborhood atmosphere. The grounds are meticulously cared for, blending the natural beauty of the lakeside woods with modern infrastructure. From the vibrant social calendar to the quiet ripples of the lake at dawn, Indianfield captures the quintessential New England summer experience. It is a place where children grow up together on the playground and parents relax on the beach, creating memories that span generations within the heart of New London County.

Location and accessibility are among the top advantages for Connecticut locals choosing Indianfield. Located at 306 Old Colchester Road in Salem, the campground is centrally positioned for easy access from various parts of the state. It is a straightforward drive for those coming from the Norwich or Colchester areas via Route 82 or Route 354. The facility is a gated community, ensuring privacy and safety for its residents. Once inside, the grounds are designed to be inclusive, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances and a dedicated accessible parking lot to accommodate all family members comfortably.

Accessibility also refers to the ease of enjoying the local region. While the campground offers a world of its own, it is strategically located near some of the state’s biggest attractions. Residents are just a short drive away from the world-class entertainment and dining at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casinos. Additionally, the historic maritime charm of Mystic Seaport and the coastal beauty of the Long Island Sound are within a 30-minute radius. This makes Indianfield an ideal home base for those who want to enjoy the tranquility of a freshwater lake while remaining close to the best shopping, dining, and cultural sites Connecticut has to offer.

Indianfield Co-Op Campground provides a comprehensive suite of services that cater to the needs of modern seasonal campers. The goal is to make lakeside living as seamless and enjoyable as possible. The services offered include:

  • Dedicated RV camping sites with full utility hookups, including running water and reliable electricity.
  • On-site waste and trash removal services to maintain a pristine environment throughout the season.
  • Campus-wide Wi-Fi and high-speed Fiber Internet options to keep residents connected for work or entertainment.
  • A convenient on-premises laundry mat for long-term comfort.
  • A campground store and "Snack Shack" offering essentials, treats, and hot meals during peak times.
  • Propane refill services located directly on the grounds.
  • Professional maintenance and office staff dedicated to supporting the co-operative community.
  • Secure, gated access with electronic entry for resident peace of mind.

The features and highlights of the property are centered around its incredible 900 feet of Gardner Lake waterfront. The community is built to encourage an active, outdoor lifestyle for all ages. Key highlights include:

  • One of the largest private waterfronts on Gardner Lake, featuring a clean, sandy swimming beach.
  • Extensive docking facilities for boats and jet skis, plus storage for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
  • Recreational sports courts, including a full basketball court, volleyball court, and bocce ball pits.
  • A spacious community Pavilion and Tribal Hall used for live bands, potluck dinners, and social events.
  • A modern playground and "swings" area designed specifically for the younger members of the community.
  • A dedicated picnic grove by the lake with sturdy picnic tables for family gatherings and outdoor meals.
  • Dog-friendly policies that allow your furry family members to enjoy the wooded trails and fresh air.
  • An arcade and game room providing entertainment for kids and teens on rainy afternoons.

For those interested in joining this lakeside community, the office can provide information on seasonal rentals or the process of becoming a site owner. What is worth choosing when it comes to Indianfield Co-Op Campground is the unmatched stability and "ownership" feel of the experience. For many Connecticut residents, the "worth" of a campground is measured by the quality of the community, and Indianfield excels here by focusing on seasonal residents. You aren't just a guest; you are a neighbor. The cooperative model ensures that the park is run with the residents' best interests in mind, resulting in a cleaner, safer, and more family-oriented environment than many public or transient campgrounds. The sheer size of the waterfront and the variety of included watercraft activities offer a level of value that is difficult to find elsewhere on Gardner Lake.

Furthermore, the social atmosphere is a major draw. With an organized schedule of community events—ranging from bonfires and music on the beach to craft nights and "Soup and Stew" nights—there is always an opportunity to connect with others. Choosing Indianfield means choosing a lifestyle where your weekends are automatically filled with relaxation and recreation. Whether you are fishing off the dock at sunrise or enjoying a marshmallow roast as the sun set over the lake, this campground provides a high-quality, authentic Connecticut camping experience. It is a rare slice of heaven that allows you to feel a world away while staying close to everything you love about the Nutmeg State.

I’ve got to say, I have Never met a nicer group of people. I have seen groups of people who like dancing, people who like sitting around campfires, some hang out on the beach, but what I’ve noticed is that even though this “click” prefers cards or that one prefers to play bingo, that are All family and friends with each other, willing to help each other anyway they can. I’m Very happy my family and I chose INDIANFIELD.

We "lived" here now for about 15 years. Mostly nice people, old maintenance crew was great, last one was dreadful and new one we will see... Nice clean spring feed water, dock can use some updates, but nice. Beach is nice. Lots of activities for kids and adults. Nice family environment.
