Laurel-Lock Campground Introduce

For Connecticut residents seeking a true lakeside retreat, Laurel-Lock Campground offers a premier destination in the heart of Oakdale. Nestled along the shores of Gardner Lake—the third largest natural lake in the state—this campground has been a cornerstone of the local outdoor community for over 90 years. Originally established in 1921, it remains a family-owned and operated business that prioritizes a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are a local looking for a weekend getaway or a long-term resident searching for a seasonal home away from home, Laurel-Lock provides a clean, organized, and factual representation of the classic New England camping experience.

The campground is situated on a sprawling, hilly property characterized by lush laurel and hemlock trees, which provide both shade and a sense of seclusion for each site. With over 1,000 feet of pristine, spring-fed waterfront, the facility is designed to maximize the natural beauty of the Gardner Lake area. The community spirit here is palpable; many families return year after year, forming a tight-knit neighborhood of campers who value safety, cleanliness, and mutual respect. The professional staff and management are frequently praised for their dedication to maintaining the grounds, ensuring that every visitor feels like part of the Laurel-Lock family from the moment they arrive.

Location and accessibility are major benefits for Connecticut travelers visiting Laurel-Lock. Located at 15 Cottage Road in Oakdale, the campground is easily accessible via the I-395 corridor and Route 82, making it a convenient drive from major hubs like Norwich, New London, and Hartford. Despite its peaceful, wooded setting, it is just minutes away from popular local attractions such as Mohegan Sun and the historic Mystic Seaport. The campground itself is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance, dedicated parking lots, and accessible restroom facilities to ensure all guests can enjoy the shoreline and amenities without barriers.

The park is divided into thoughtfully planned areas to accommodate different preferences. There are separate beach areas for families and adults, allowing for both lively afternoon splashes and quiet, serene sunsets. For those with trailers and RVs, the wooded sites provide full hookups and a level of privacy that is often missing in larger, more commercialized resorts. While the terrain is naturally hilly—offering those spectacular lake views—the layout remains navigable for on-site parking and recreational activities.

  • Full hookup sites for RVs and trailers, including water, sewer, expanded basic cable, and metered electric service.
  • Provisional sites equipped with water, electricity, and cable, supported by an on-site dumping station for convenience.
  • Two clean swimming beaches, with separate areas designated for families and adults-only relaxation.
  • Boat launch and dock facilities available for those who wish to bring their own motorboats, kayaks, or canoes.
  • On-site boat rentals including kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards for exploring the 528-acre Gardner Lake.
  • A well-stocked camp store providing camping staples like ice, firewood, propane gas, and various groceries.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi access available at the recreation hall and main office area to keep you connected.
  • Professional management of recreational activities, ranging from hay rides and bingo to live bands and themed parties.

The features and highlights of Laurel-Lock Campground center on active outdoor living and community engagement. Gardner Lake is a major draw for fishing enthusiasts, as the spring-fed waters are home to large and small-mouth bass, walleye, and trout. The campground makes the most of this resource with its extensive waterfront and recreational docks. On land, the facility is packed with sports courts and play areas that keep children and adults engaged throughout their stay. The spectacular sunsets over the lake are widely considered some of the best in Southeastern Connecticut, serving as the perfect backdrop for evening relaxation.

  • Spectacular lakefront views and a 1,000-foot shoreline on the pristine, spring-fed Gardner Lake.
  • Extensive sports facilities including a basketball court, volleyball court, shuffleboard, cornhole, and horseshoes.
  • Kid-friendly amenities such as a modern playground, swings, and dedicated kid-friendly hiking trails.
  • A robust calendar of community events including live music, Saturday night poker runs, and holiday-themed celebrations.
  • Clean and meticulously maintained public restrooms and hot shower facilities throughout the campground.
  • A pet-friendly environment where dogs are welcomed on-site, allowing the whole family to travel together.
  • Unique community activities like "Sip and Paint" classes and "Campsite Crawls" for adult seasonal residents.

For more information or to inquire about seasonal site availability, the management can be reached through their primary office number. It is important to note that many of the sites are primarily seasonal, making early inquiry essential for those looking to secure a spot for the upcoming summer months. The park typically operates from May through September, capturing the best of the New England summer season.

What is worth choosing about Laurel-Lock Campground is its rare combination of a long-standing historical legacy and modern, high-quality maintenance. In a state where many private lakefront properties are inaccessible, this campground provides a factual and affordable gateway to one of Connecticut's most beautiful natural resources. It is worth choosing for families who prioritize a safe, community-oriented environment where children can run free and neighbors look out for one another. The "super clean" facilities and beaches reflect a level of care that sets this location apart from other regional options.

My family and I have been at Laurel-Lock for 3 years. We went to 3 different campgrounds before choosing to be seasonal at Laurel-Lock Campground. This place makes you feel like you are part of the family. It is true community with wonderful staff and campers. Very clean facilities, super clean beach, and spring fed lake. We love watching the sunset over the 3rd largest natural lake in CT.

Exceptional campground! Very clean, organized, great activities, community spirit. Beaches are kept very clean and the bands they have several times a year are outstanding! Sunsets are spectacular and we miss them all winter. Can't wait for 2018!

Love this place. Mostly seasonal sites they do try to accommodate transient guests. Family friendly. Very clean and well kept. They have clean bathrooms showers laundry mat and rec hall to use at your leisure. Check their schedule sometimes they have live music different activities and potluck meals. All of which are very fun and amusing because it seems like all of the campers get along very well and are very welcoming to new people. But let's be honest it's all about the lake the beaches are very clean and tests for bacteria on a regular basis they have a family beach and a 18 and older adult beach. I grew up on this lake I've always wanted to be on this lake and now my dream has come true at Laurel Lock. My family and I cherish this place so much and we love everyone here.

Great place! We are not seasonal campers here, but we have relatives (four different sets) who are. It never matters if the campsite we rent during our stay is near family or not. We always feel welcomed and within a day or two, develop friendships with whomever we’re neighbored with. This campground is very clean and inviting. We’ve visited quite a few times over the years and have never had a bad experience here.

My family had a seasonal site there for 2 yrs way back in 1982 and 1983. Yes we're going back almost 40 yrs but it was an awesome campground back then. I believe Ann & Bill owned it at that time. Neighbors and other seasonal campers were very nice. Sites were much bigger back then, as with any campground of that time period. Great looking at the current pics that brings back memories when I was about 19 - 20 yrs old back in 82&83. Obvious a great many updates since then.
