Knoebels (SA-60) Introduce
For generations of families across Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region, the name Knoebels is synonymous with classic summer fun and nostalgic memories. While many know it as America’s largest free-admission amusement park, the experience is truly complete when staying at the Knoebels Park Campground, often identified by specific sections like SA-60. Tucked away in the lush, wooded hills of Elysburg, PA, this campground offers a unique opportunity to live right in the heart of the action. Unlike typical commercial campgrounds, Knoebels provides a rustic, forest-dwelling atmosphere where the sounds of the legendary Phoenix roller coaster and the smell of award-winning park food are just a short stroll away from your tent or RV.
The Knoebels camping experience is built around the idea of a "home away from home." It is a place where traditions are born and maintained, with many families returning to the same sites for decades. The campground successfully blends the rugged feel of the Pennsylvania mountains with the convenience of being adjacent to world-class entertainment. Whether you are waking up to a crisp mountain morning or returning to your site for a midday break from the rides, the SA-60 area and its surrounding loops provide a stable, family-oriented environment that captures the best of the Keystone State’s outdoor lifestyle.
Location and accessibility are two of the most significant advantages of choosing Knoebels Park Campground. Located in Elysburg, PA 17824, the site is centrally positioned in the Susquehanna River Valley, making it easily accessible from major cities like Scranton, Harrisburg, and Allentown. The entrance to the campground is clearly marked and designed to accommodate various vehicle sizes, though the mountainous terrain means some roads are winding and require careful navigation. Once arrived, campers find themselves within walking distance of the amusement park’s "Covered Bridge" entrance, though a complimentary shuttle service is also available for those who prefer a lift or have heavy gear to transport.
For those traveling with specific mobility needs, Knoebels has made significant strides in accessibility. The campground features wheelchair-accessible layouts in key common areas, and the park itself is renowned for its inclusive approach. The proximity of the SA-60 area to the park entrance ensures that those who may struggle with long distances can still enjoy the full resort experience without undue physical strain. Accessibility is further enhanced by the presence of multiple bathhouses and service points distributed throughout the various camping loops, ensuring that essential facilities are never too far away.
Knoebels Park Campground offers a wide range of services designed to support a multi-day stay. The management understands that camping in the mountains requires a certain level of infrastructure, and they provide several essential utilities to ensure comfort. While the campground maintains a rustic feel, the services provided help bridge the gap between primitive camping and modern convenience.
- Electric hookups are available at the majority of sites, supporting both 30-amp and 50-amp requirements for various RV and camper models.
- Dedicated water filling stations are strategically located throughout the campground, allowing guests to fill their holding tanks upon arrival or during their stay.
- A multi-lane sanitary dump station is available for campers, designed to accommodate up to four RVs simultaneously to reduce wait times during peak departure windows.
- On-site breakfast services are offered daily from 8 AM to 2 PM, providing a convenient and affordable dining option for families starting their day.
- A well-stocked camp store (The Trading Post) provides essentials such as ice, firewood, propane refills, and basic grocery items.
- Free WiFi access is available throughout most of the campground, allowing guests to stay connected while enjoying the outdoors.
The features and highlights of the Knoebels (SA-60) area reflect the park's commitment to traditional family values. One of the most praised aspects of the campground is its affordability, especially given its location within a resort. Because the amusement park offers free admission and free parking, the cost of the campsite serves as the primary investment for a weekend of entertainment. The sites themselves are generally spacious, though the rocky mountain terrain means some sites require a bit of leveling work for RVs.
- Direct ride-in/walk-in access to the amusement park, eliminating the need to drive or pay for parking during your stay.
- Pet-friendly policies that allow families to bring their dogs along for the camping adventure (and even into parts of the amusement park).
- A 10% discount on ride ticket books for campground guests during select weekday periods, adding even more value to the stay.
- Organized children's activities, including Saturday morning crafts and games, which are a hit with younger campers.
- Modern bathhouses equipped with hot showers, flush toilets, and outdoor sinks for dishwashing and hygiene.
- Dedicated playground areas and recreation courts, including basketball and volleyball, for evening fun after the park closes.
To secure a spot at Knoebels Park Campground, it is important to plan well in advance, as sites often book up months ahead of time, especially for holiday weekends and the popular "Hall-O-Fun" October events. Reservations are primarily handled via telephone during regular business hours.

When considering which Pennsylvania campground is worth choosing for your next trip, Knoebels Park Campground stands out for its unparalleled combination of value and atmosphere. The ability to "camp in the park" is a rare feature that changes the dynamic of a family vacation. Instead of a long commute to an attraction, you are simply steps away from world-class wooden coasters, award-winning food like the famous pierogies and Cesari’s Pizza, and the refreshing mountain water of the Crystal Pool. This convenience is invaluable for families with small children who may need to return to the site for naps or quiet time.
Furthermore, the culture of the campground is one of genuine Pennsylvania hospitality. The staff is consistently noted for being courteous and helpful, whether it is guiding a large rig into a tight mountain site or assisting with fire wood delivery. While the campground does not offer full sewer hookups at every site due to the rocky geography, the ease of the four-lane dump station and the presence of numerous clean bathhouses more than compensate. Choosing Knoebels (SA-60) means choosing a legacy of fun where the quality of the experience is measured in smiles and campfire stories rather than high-tech frills. It remains a premier destination for anyone seeking an authentic, affordable, and incredibly fun Pennsylvania getaway.
Whether you are a seasoned RV traveler or a first-time tent camper, the environment at Knoebels is designed to be welcoming and accessible. The balance of wooded seclusion and proximity to one of the nation's best-loved amusement parks makes it a standout choice in the Northumberland County region. For those who value tradition and the simple pleasures of a Pennsylvania summer, there is simply no better place to be.

12 yrs and Counting. Easy access to the park. Breakfast 8 - 2 daily. Very affordable. Overall great time and experience
I really like Knoebels and go there at least one weekend every year the reason I only gave it stars is because the sites are plenty big but can be tough to get into and the only hookup you get is electric I understand why it's in the mountains and all rock they did well at making them mostly level and the reason for the price is because you are staying in the only free amusement park that I have ever heard of the dump station can have a bit of a line when leaving on Sunday morning but it is the eseyest dump I have ever pulled up too and it accommodates 4 RVs at a time I go every year and the family always has a grate time even if it's raining
