Mascoma Lake Campground Introduce
Mascoma Lake Campground serves as a serene sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts nestled in the heart of New Hampshire's Upper Valley. Located on the picturesque northwestern shoreline of Mascoma Lake, this facility provides a quintessential New England camping experience that balances natural beauty with local convenience. Whether you are looking for a weekend escape from the city or a long-term seasonal home, the campground offers a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the friendly spirit of the Lebanon region. For local residents and visitors alike, it is a place where the morning mist over the water and the call of the loons create a truly restorative environment.
The campground is under professional management, noted for its responsiveness and commitment to maintaining a high-quality facility. Over the years, it has developed into a tight-knit community where many long-term guests return summer after summer, yet it remains perfectly suited for those just passing through. The landscape features a mix of wooded enclaves and open spaces that provide stunning views of the pristine waters and the rolling mountains in the distance. As a family-run style resort, it emphasizes a clean, quiet, and safe environment, ensuring that every guest can enjoy the peace of the "quiet side" of New Hampshire.
Location and accessibility are major benefits for those choosing Mascoma Lake Campground. It is located at 92 NH Rte 4A, Lebanon, NH 03766, making it exceptionally easy to reach from Interstate 89. Specifically, travelers coming from I-89 at exit 17 need only travel approximately two miles east on US Route 4 before turning south onto Highway 4A. This strategic positioning makes it a prime choice for those visiting nearby Dartmouth College, DHMC, or the historic downtown of Lebanon. Despite its proximity to these major hubs, the park remains secluded enough to offer a true wilderness feel.
The facility is designed to be inclusive, offering features like a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot to accommodate all guests. On-site parking is clearly marked and spacious enough for both standard vehicles and larger RV rigs. Furthermore, the campground is just a short drive from the Northern Rail Trail, a popular destination for hikers and bikers looking to explore the region’s historical and natural sights. This blend of remote lakefront tranquility and easy highway access makes it one of the most conveniently located private campgrounds in the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region.

What is worth choosing when it comes to Mascoma Lake Campground is the balance of a quiet, "old-school" camping vibe with modern, professional service. While some sites are described as cozy, the trade-off is an unbeatable proximity to the lake and a community of "friendly and helpful" campers. The inclusion of free hot showers and impeccably clean restrooms is a significant value that sets this facility apart from more primitive state parks. If you value responsive management—led by the frequently praised Susan—and a location that puts the best of the Upper Valley at your fingertips, this campground is an exceptional choice.
Ultimately, choosing this spot means opting for a vacation where you can transition seamlessly from a morning kayak run to an afternoon visit at Dartmouth or a hike on the rail trail, all before returning for an ice cream at the beach and a sunset campfire. The mix of seasonal residents and short-term travelers creates a safe, neighborhood-like atmosphere that is perfect for families with children and pets. Whether you are there for the fantastic views, the social events in the rec hall, or simply the peace of Mascoma Lake, this campground delivers a memorable and authentic New Hampshire experience that will have you planning your return trip before you even leave.

Camp sites were a little small, but level. The views of the lake were fantastic. The restrooms were clean with plenty of hot water in the free shower. Many of the sites are long term guests. We were traveling with our basset hound. Several of the guest stopped by to meet her. Overall a great place to stay.
This campground is great and I would absolutely return for another stay. The general manager Susan is very responsive and timely to questions or concerns. Lakefront access is wonderful, and the Baited Hook ice cream shop is right next to the beach. There's always something fun going on at the rec hall and other campers are friendly and helpful. This is a lovely spot worth checking out.
We got a seasonal site at the campground ($3700) and like to pull our camper out for weekends at other campgrounds. Towards the end of the season we pulled our camper out and came back less than a week later to find our site rented to someone else and half of our patio furniture stolen (yes, we left items there that make it obvious we are coming back). We were informed that the site is considered abandoned if left without written confirmation of our return (which we had never done before). The campground offered no compensation for our lost weeks, no apology, no customer service whatsoever, and not even a comment or apology for the stolen patio furniture (which has been an ongoing issue at this campground). Overall would not recommend this campground. They used to be owned by a local couple but have gone downhill very quickly since the sale.
This is not a true campground as we expected. They have 5 nightly/weekly sites and the rest are permanent. So it's really a trailer park. The transient sites are level but very short. Full hookup. The RV park is up the side of a very steep hill. The seasonal residents were all very friendly and Susan the manager was responsive and helpful. The office was never actually open. The place was clean and overlooks beautiful Lake Mascoma.
I needed a place to stay, close to the Northern Rail Trail for a two day bike trip. Susan was very accommodating, had to do a very late cancellation on my first booking, unfortunate, but she allowed me to set up another date and managed to get me in on late notice. She let me have a one night stay, very rare for an in season campground request. The tiny home cabin was perfect. Susan’s attention to detail, helpful information about the area, and excellent communication were well above normal expectations. I highly recommend calling here first if you are looking for a place to stay with easy access to and from the Northern Rail Trail, or otherwise in the Lebanon NH area.
