Mt Sunapee State Park Campground Introduce
Mt Sunapee State Park Campground offers a quintessential New Hampshire outdoor experience for those who value peace, privacy, and a direct connection with nature. Situated on the rugged slopes of Mount Sunapee in Newbury, this campground is a favorite among local residents who want to trade the noise of the city for the rustle of birch and maple leaves. Unlike many modern commercial parks, this state-managed facility focuses on a primitive style of camping, providing a "back-to-basics" atmosphere that encourages visitors to unplug and immerse themselves in the 2,893-acre recreation area.
The campground is part of a larger, year-round recreation hub famous for its winter skiing and summer lake activities. During the warmer months, the focus shifts to the mountain’s extensive trail system and the nearby pristine waters of Lake Sunapee. For New Hampshire locals, Mt Sunapee State Park represents a versatile destination where one can spend the morning summiting a peak and the afternoon cooling off at one of the state's most beautiful inland beaches. The environment is notably quiet and secluded, making it a top choice for seasoned campers and families looking for a genuine woodland retreat.
Location and accessibility are major draws for this site. The park is located at 1 Park Road in Newbury, NH, easily accessible via Route 103. While the main park entrance is easy to find, the campground itself is reached via a winding, unpaved mountain road that adds to its sense of isolation. Despite its rugged setting, the facility has prioritized inclusivity with wheelchair-accessible entrances, parking lots, and restrooms. It is important for visitors to note that all campers must first register at the Mt Sunapee State Beach office, located about a mile from the campground, before heading up the mountain to their designated site.

Customer Reviews
Rural camping place. Quiet. Has outhouses and in some of the sites, lean to things. No showerhouse that I'm aware of in the camp itself. There is one at the beach area nearby.I recommend this for quiet secluded camping experience.
Road not taken care of. Washout.Nice, private campsites.
It's a great venue for fairs and markets.
Great spot on side of mountain [no view from camp ground] but a short walk will produce a wonderful sight to view. Camping fee also pays for use of state beach for swimming [about 1 mile away] There are 12 sites [4?] lean-to's and the rest platform camping]my only issue is the road going to the camp ground ... rough ... go slow and you will make it .. no problem ...check on web for site reservations and availability
