Otter Creek Campground Introduce

Otter Creek Campground serves as a serene sanctuary for outdoor enthusiasts located in the southern reaches of York County, Pennsylvania. Nestled within 34 acres of lush, tranquil woodland, the campground is uniquely positioned where the winding Otter Creek meets the majestic Susquehanna River. This dual-waterfront setting provides a picturesque backdrop for those seeking to reconnect with nature while enjoying the comforts of a professionally managed facility. Known for its clean, "older style" charm, the campground emphasizes a peaceful atmosphere that stands in contrast to more commercialized resorts. Whether you are an avid hiker, a dedicated fisherman, or a family looking for a weekend retreat, Otter Creek offers a rustic and welcoming environment that highlights the natural beauty of the Pennsylvania riverlands.

The spirit of the campground is defined by its commitment to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and a friendly, community-focused vibe. Operated with a personal touch by a dedicated team of caretakers, the facility has earned a reputation among local Pennsylvania campers for its spacious and often secluded sites. The landscape transitions from steep, forested hillsides to level riverfront vistas, offering a variety of environmental experiences within a single location. For many residents of the region, Otter Creek is a "happy place" where the focus is on the simple joys of camping: the smell of woodsmoke, the sound of flowing water, and the opportunity to spot local wildlife like bald eagles and deer under a canopy of mature hemlocks and hardwoods.

Location and accessibility are primary benefits for those traveling from nearby Pennsylvania hubs. Situated at 1101 Furnace Road in Airville, the campground is approximately a 35-minute drive from York or Lancaster and about an hour from Harrisburg. This makes it an ideal destination for a quick weekend getaway or a longer seasonal stay. The facility has been modernized to include wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking lots, ensuring that the beauty of the Susquehanna is available to all guests. While the final approach involves the winding, scenic roads characteristic of the river hills, the campground itself provides on-site parking and clear signage to facilitate a smooth arrival and check-in process.

We had a phenomenal time. This is probably one of the cleanest older style campgrounds that we have been to. The price is very affordable and there is plenty of things to do around it. From trail hikes to kayaking or canoeing if you have your own. The price of firewood is also outstanding. We stayed for four nights and bought the $35 bundle and it lasted for our stay. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so welcoming.

We stayed here for the first time this weekend. We are torn between 4 and 5 stars, but went with 5 because there was more positive than negative. Very clean and well managed, managers and seasonal campers were very friendly. Spacious and secluded sites. We stayed as tent campers. Not sure why another camper mentioned the rule signs being off putting, they are there because too many people do not follow the rules. Our site did have poison ivy starting to grow on the edge (late April), but we hope to see it gone the next time we come back, because we will!

Although the owner was very nice, and the location by Lake Aldred was great considering our love of kayaking, the upper roads and campsites were very tight and you are right on top of your neighbors. Our site was on a steep hill that required lots of extra blocking under the hitch, one tire, and front stabilizers just to get it level and this left the back bumper almost on the ground. The sites on the lower loops and by the playground are more spread out and the sites wider and more level. The prices are not bad but there are little extra fees that you don't find out until you get there, such as extra money if you wish to run an air conditioner and pay showers that only give you six miles of water at a time. There is only one main shower/bathroom building and it is kept fairly clean. However, the smaller bathroom buildings that are through the campground stank so bad from a distance of 30' that I couldn't even get close enough to check them out. They do have a nice big play area for kids but unless they are athletes, leave the bikes at home as the roads are very steep. There is also no area for swimming unless you wish to climb down a steep narrow path into the canyon that Otter Creek runs through. Not a safe swimming place for kids. This campground served our purposes for a weekend trip but I don't think I would choose to stay longer than that. If you return I will certainly choose one of the lower wider sites.

We had 2 great camping weekends in 2021 and look forward to booking in 2022! The campground is quiet and relaxed. Scott and Mandy could not be more accommodating or helpful! Camp store has lots of essentials and is well stocked. The only negatives: The drive to get in is not the easiest and some of the spots are tight to back into. Once you are in the sites they are spacious, just be sure to bring leveling blocks/boards as the campground is very hilly.5 stars to Otter Creek!
